Timestamps are integrated into the video showing each segment dedicated to this phone. There's not a whole heap of features with this but a decent portion is dedicated to the ringtones so if you need to skip through - that's not a problem!
======================================================
I am back with another installment in |THE_PHONE_ARCHIVE| - a series in which I take a look at weird, strange, obscure and unique phones (or devices) for your entertainment! This series is made to look back over older devices that don't run Android and serve as a lookback and retrospective of a certain device.
And today I bring you the smallest phone of 2004 - the Panasonic EB-A100!
It's interesting in its own regards but it is lacking on features.
It's not the worlds smallest phone but back in 2004 it was one of them.
The EB-GD55 from 2003 was slightly smaller than the A100 and had pretty much the same features.
I've had this in my collection for years and the other day I thought "I'd love to take a look at one and see what it can do"
And here we are!
Apologies if it's not too interesting but it's a lookback on something from 20 years ago!
I do hope you enjoy this lookback and it will be interesting to hear if anyone used one of these :)

*Small phones are awesome. I wish there was a lot more flagship phones around in a tiny form factor* Hey another random Phone Archive video! Bringing you all a lookback at one of the smallest phones in 2004! The Panasonic A100 lacks on features but is still an interesting phone honestly. Let me know what you thought of this one down below and if you ever used one of these! My Dad had Panasonic phones, they looked like miniaturised versions of their landline phones. I never cared about them because they didn't have games, but then they'd have features like a voice recorder that could be used to make ringtones, in like 2000.

24:45 Just a tip about the numbers on the chips - the 4 digit numbers beginning with 03 and 04 are batch numbers for that particular chip shown in year and week so 0349 would be 49th week of 2003. I saw an 0417 earlier in the vid - yep, 17th week of 2004. These can give a rough guide of how old something is and when it was made.

I had an A100 before, it was small but when it comes with the ringtone it's quite loud... but cute. as during that time, the smaller phone you have, you're unique, here in our country... I also remember during the dumb phone era, it's also trending to have an transparent acetate film inserted to the lcd screen with your chosen design or photo/ to make your phone look unique...

Great phone you have there! I actually wanted a Panasonic GD55 or G51, but they are pretty rare & hard to find from where I lived. However I do have the Sendo M550, SL55/SL56, and Pantech C300 which to be fair, the smallest phones in my collection and I loved their sizes of them, specially the SL55.

I had a friend who had an A101 and he let me play on his phone for a bit and i was amazed by how small it felt, but yet, it fitted nicely in my hand, typing was surprisingly easy with those clicky buttons! I had a 3510i in 2004 and going back to a monochrome screen was weird! My last panasonic was also a really cool phone, it was the TX 310, it had a monochrome screen, but colors at the same time, because the backlight could change colors, it was a nice gimmick, even the keypad light changed, so yeah, rgb in a phone from 2001 (though i got mine in 2003) :p thanks for bringing back so many memories man!

I was rocking a Siemens S55 at the time which also supported that camera, still one of the best phones I had as it also ran Java apps so I could play Tetris or log on to IRC with it, and it did a pretty good job with MIDI ringtones. Mine also came with a serial data cable for synching and transferring data. I still have some of the wallpapers I used on it somewhere in an old backup.

AD6525 is indeed the SoC in this. A service manual for the LG C3100 which you can find online also uses this SoC, and it has an ARM7TDMI CPU. Looks like a member of the AD6521/6522 family, might've been relatively common before Mediatek's single-chip solutions took over.

I know these 2000s devices weren't always built to the best durability, but the design an pick of functions is perfect. Not too much, not too little, just enough to be useful, reliable, and kill a few moments in an emergency. I can't help but miss tech like this.

When phones were starting to become big again, there was a joke that came out that time. The joke was that the reason people started getting big phones, was because they realized that they can play p**n on them. Another small phone from that era (kind of - 1997) was the Ericsson GF 788.Even if the door was removed, you could still talk.

I found an old forum from 2005 about the A100, someone said they bought it used for 2000 baht, which the exchange rate to USD would’ve made it about $50 used, so I’m assuming the price new would’ve been $100-125.

A really cute wee thing. I can remember someone calling something similar as Dinky Butch. I was surprised that it didn't have a camera in it. But talk and text was enough back then. I do like the little extras that help you interact with the device. Not we are not happy u less our noses are stuck in the screen full time. 😂

According to a web search Panasonic stopped selling at the local market because NTT Docomo stopped promoting their devices. For traditional cell phone makers that was a huge deal. I guess they then outsourced international business.

Is the Panasonic smaller than the Sony CM R111? I had that as my first phone and it was awesome. It had a microphone on a stalk that flicked down. There was no LED or LCD display, just a couple of LED lights. To call, you could use the separate remote display and keyboard, that was extremely thin and the size of a credit card. And it had an earpiece so you could use it hands-free. Unfortunately, it was analogue, so, it became extinct. 😊

That was my first ever phone too, loved it and I don't think any has ever been smaller. Maybe the Nokia 8210 or Sony Ericsson W890 in later years! Love the smaller phones, recently got the Servo BM10 5 dollar phone on AliExpress and basically like a mini Nokia!
