My GH4 has been a my work horse for 7 years. I picked up mine used back then with 5 lenses. In parts of the US Craigslist is your Friend for used equipment. I had been using other brand cameras at the time where I worked but picked this up for the ease of use for a relative newbie. It’s been a great camera to grow with.

The lenses have OIS. The auto focus is very fast and accurate once you understand how to use it. If you use AFC in movie it will focus perfectly as you push the release button, and keep focusing. The movie continuous focus is a follow-focus to stay with the actor, it will not focus the lens initially, turning this on will not allow the camera to switch from face to palm and back when VLogging, it is intended for shooting movies. If you want it to switch to another actor, you touch the shutter half-press or AF-On. Unlike PDAF, CDAF has to be absolutely in focus to lock, and with DFD can do it in 0.07s, so it is pretty quick. There is a Panasonic autofocus tutorial to learn how it all works.

The GH4 is still my work camera. I've had it since 2014 and until now I haven't felt the need to buy a new model. It continues to work, continues to create beautiful images and has not had any flaws or damage.

Man, that’s right up there with walking in with a briefcase full of money! Lol But yeah, I actually got a Panasonic 20mm f1.7 a little while ago and that’s been staying on my GF2. It really does make a cool walk around set up.

The GH4 is dope if you have it on a tripod or are doing manual focusing.. Interviews etc. I think it works awesomely. Saving up for a GH7 but I do not have a problem with the GH4 at all.

It’s a good tripod only cam for me. I still have mine never used the autofocus. Decent for photography at the time. I’ve moved up,to the gh5ii as the 6 is just overkill for my needs. Autofocus is much improved but still not Sonylike. Iv e used it for head vids and it does well. But I still feel more confident with my Sony for that type of vid

When I do concert photography with my GH4 it's really a huge hit and miss with the autofocus. It's really not too great. But is does have a lot to do with available light, use of flash, and the lens has to have really snappy AF motors and a good aperture, Like the Olympus 75mm f/1.8. Luckily I can shoot bursts and refocus quite fast, so I still get a lot of usable shots despite having to trash over half of them on first review.
@Dr.FordACG5 ай бұрын
the reason why the focus is so slow in this video is not purely because of GH4, it's the leica 25 14, it's notorious for its slow focus motor, if u use the small kit lens 12 32, the focus will be much more faster

So I’ve been shooting on a GH4 for about 1 year now and I’ve just come across something. If you shoot video in the manual setting with the M and a camera symbol next to it (on the selection wheel) the footage is dark. If you shoot on the M setting (just the M on the selection wheel) the footage is waaaay brighter! Can someone explain why to me? Try it and let me know if same happens

Nice! I love these types of videos and so just subscribed...I love these things so much I've got a website where I've been testing the GH4, G7, G85 and GX85 with all of the lenses I've been able to, and I've learned a lot...The sensor and color rendition of the GH4 is certainly much different than the G7 (G7 renders a wider range of colors, as tested on a number of lenses, etc.) and doesn't really match the color on the G85 or GX85 either (which are perfectly matched to eachother, which is nice). If one is trying to match color to a GH5, it looks like the G95 and GX9 match pretty well (the GX9 being the least expensive option) so is one thing I'm considering. Also, the GH4 screen is not very accurate as far as color, tonal range and overall exposure; the G7 is better, but not accurate, and my GX85 and G85 are accurate enough (that I can judge color, contrast, and exposure...even though you never used to be able to do that with the screens on back of any camera, and were told not to by everybody). For $300-$500, I think the G85 or GX85 is a better tool, even with the lack of video features, because they have really good IBIS, MUCH better image quality, and are easier to find on the used market, etc.
@silverlightphotoco2 жыл бұрын
@@jeffslade1892 It's good to meet you Jeff! I can certainly say, that if you've been using the GH4 (for some time) you've probably got pretty good color grading skills, so you may be a little bit more advanced than a lot of users, LOL! So yes, I do agree that it's possible to match color between the GH4, G7. If you do ever get a chance to try a GX85 or a G85, the IBIS does work really well in the video modes, even with non-stabilized, vintage lenses...😃

One of the benefits of the GH4 and GH5S is no IBIS. The TV show Top Gear bought some GH5 cameras and they was no snowmobiles and I they had IBIS turned off and with all the bumps they was going over in the snowmobiles the sensor was shaking. So they went back tot he GH4 camera. It would be nice if camera makers made one model with no IBIS.

What u may not know and others may not know is that as long as you are using native lenses, you have full control of af and mf focus and apperture using the app. Only panasonic has the best appmever..
@delmixedit2 жыл бұрын
Doesn’t have to be a native lens, just can’t be a manual only lens. I do this with a Sigma 18-35 😉

Great video. Its crazy how many features this GH4 has that took Sony so many years to include. It also has a touch screen to0 and eye autofocus for portraits....and its super light...plus you can get some great used prices for lenses too. Hmm...if I were starting now I might start with a gh4 or gh5 and save some money. The only real down side is if you need to push your iso. Outside of that I really like this GH4.
@Vayanovic Жыл бұрын
when you say 'push your iso' is it for low light situations?
@nealyoung611 Жыл бұрын
Yes. Sorry for missing this comment ages ago. Yes in low light areas of a home. Outside your footage will be perfect. Basements with little light might need you to use higher iso so things don't look too dark. But I've heard speed boosters can help but I don't have first hand experience with that.
