Nothing special, just shooting in the A mode most of the time. Light is the key to getting the best image quality - good light usually means good images - keep the ISO at 100 for best results - don't rely on the Auto features of the camera.

I've recently bought a couple of recommended but affordable 35mm point and shoot cameras, to get back into photography, beyond the phone camera. I'm enjoying it but it costs a fair amount as a hobby these days so I've been looking at this model as it's recommended as a decent 2nd hand point and shoot. I'm quite entertained actually, coming from Westhoughton and the first video on this model has pics of Rivington and Blackrod! Quite handy actually as I can recognise and compare the scenes in the images.

nice video as always Graham - the Mic's are quite good - and nice to have RAW - Sony in their HXv50 does not offer RAW - and no one has EVF in that size and price $297 - so a very practical camera for a budget minded family / person - I suspect Panasonic will come out with a 1 inch sensor small body - smaller then the LX100 but of course a bit larger then the TZ70(Zs50) to compete with the Sony RX100 models and now the Canon G7X and G9X and soon to be announced Fuji X70 - they really need to - they can just buy the Sony RX100m3 sensor like Canon does - and it does not have to do 4k - ( as it requires larger body for cooling as Sony has come up against in their RX100m4 which is worthless in 4k as it overheats after 3-5min and for sure 2-3 min in warm climate ) - so it really is just a sales ploy - but folks are paying $1000 for it - I would love to see Panasonic do something similar to the GM5 in size and with EVF and a 24-100mm F1.8-2.8 lens - with the nice G series menu and Touch LCD - will have to have Flip LCD - and be priced better then the expense RX100 models - so maybe the same price as the G7X from Canon - but it will have more features and an EVF - Question is what will Panasonic do in regards to the LX100 - will the be a sequel or are they better of with a 1 inch sensor and a smaller size- I think they are better off going that route - not sure the LX100 is for everyone - No Mode Dial etc - I kind a think Panasonic was challenging the Fuji X100/s/t - but in reality I think that Fuji still owns that Purist group - so I think Panasonic should compete in the much much larger market share group of the RX100 and Gx7/Gx9 - the Fuji X70 will be larger then the RX100 and Canon G7X and G9X - about the size of the LX100 so I suspect it will not be as attractive for those who are looking at the smallest but best image quality camera with EVF and 1 inch sensor - I think Panasonic has a much nicer user friendly menu in the G series then both Sony and Canon and if they keep they price well below Sony's price and deliver lots of features and good video as they always do then they really can compete -

It's a shame no-one I've seen reviewing this camera demonstrates it's ability to shoot night scenes (City Scapes) using slow shutter speeds to capture light trails. It's a bit annoying that this camera manufacturer, Panasonic, claims that it reduced the number of pixels on it's sensor to better cope with low-level light; yet, no-one is testing it in low-level to nigh time lighting situations. I would have liked to see how it operates and performs in Starry Sky mode, and how well it does at a shutter speed of 4 seconds, its lowest shutter speed setting. It's also annoying that again Panasonic reduced the number of pixels on its sensor for reasons mentioned above; yet, it's slowest shutter speed is only 4 seconds, unless you switch to Starry Sky mode; but even in this mode, I'm led to believe it only offers options of 15, 30, and 60 seconds at a default ISO of 100 that can'tr be adjusted. Why not give the camera the ability to shoot up to 60 seconds half-second or less increments. The lack of this shutter control capability is likely to deter me from purchasing the camera. Yet, it has so many other excellent features - like manual focus capability, and AE and AF lock facility, EVF, fantastic lens and lens range.

Very good presentation Graham. My last camera in this family was the good old TZ-3 ! Now I am after a good travel camera that has zoom capability and can even go underwater if need be . The TZ-60 doesn't have a underwater casing but the TZ-40 does. Panasonic advised me to buy the TZ-40. Is the TZ-70 superior to the TZ-40 for terrestrial applications? I was thinking of going to Granada in Spain to photograph some of the Moorish monuments like the interior of the Alhambra . Will this suffice as a compact ? Of course I can take the Sony A99 but if this is a powerful compact ...? What is your opinion?

Still Life photos (museum) were hard to understand, since only you know how other cameras compare with the same subjects. Better if you showed the same shopping center [Techmoan KZbin channel]. That way, we shopping center visitors can relate & compare. Then it shows HDR needs or possibilities, fine details, extreme lights, people moving, sounds, etc.

Hi Graham. What a fantastic tutorial. I myself have bought a TZ70, but the video clips are coming up as MST files. I do have a photo fun studio disc that came with the camera, but I am not sure how to use it. I am still running Windows XP. I would love to know how you got the excellent video clips on youtube, and what format you used. Any advice you could give me would be much appreciated.
@GrahamHoughton126 жыл бұрын
Hello, the MTS files are the default AVCHD files. If you use something like Windows Moviemaker (was included with XP or you can still find it for download) you can edit this file. Alternatively switch your file recording format to MP4 which is far easier to edit on older PC's. Photofunstudio will allow you to edit both types of files if you install it.

Cheers Graham keep up the good work.

The MTS files are in 50 FPS. If you change to recording in MP4, which you can select in the camera, you drop down to 25 FPS.

I have this camera and having some issues with it. Sometimes when i wan't to take a picture and hit the button to zoom in or out it just randomly starts to record video and it does the same when i'm recording a video and hit the zoom and it just stops recording video. It only does it very occasionally though so when i took it to the shop i bought it from it worked fine with them and they said it could be temperature effecting it but they didn't know. It doesn't really cause to much of a problem because it doesn't do it all the time but it can be annoying when i'm recording video and it just randomly stops. I can't find anyone having this problem with any camera and i'm not tech savvy at all. Anyone have any ideas what the problem could be?

hello, as i realize from your videos photos from tz60 are better * sharper ) than photos from tz70?? Am i right ?
@GrahamHoughton126 жыл бұрын
There is more resolution available in the TZ60 with the smaller pixels so in bright light the camera can record a lot more finer detail. As the light levels fail then, marginally, the TZ70 images are better as they don't have the same level of noise in them - especially at ISO 400 and above.

is it user friendly, being a beginner and is it suitable for food, travel and fashion photos and videos?
@MartinWillett6 жыл бұрын
Yes. It's powerful but small. If you can't use every feature of a small camera people don't think you're an idiot. If you buy a really big camera and can't drive it they DO think you're an idiot. I think it's great. It's my third Panasonic camera, so I can't really tell you what it is like as a beginner, but it is a lot easier to drive than my bigger Panasonic which can zoom to 6o times, and it is far more easy to carry around than that brute. Considering how easy it is to keep in your pocket you should be able to get practice with it quite easily. You can walk around with a great camera without having to have it slung around your neck. I recently saw a hare in a field, I had two cameras with me, the TZ70 with 30 times zoom in my pocket and the DMC-FZ72 with 60 times zoom and a tripod in the car. Dilemma! I decided to brace myself on a gate and try to capture it with the pocket camera, then when I had captured a couple of video clips I would take out the big camera. I managed to set the bigger camera up and the results were not very different, both clearly show a shy animal in low light at high zoom. I was very impressed with what the little brother could do compared to my "big boy zoom camera". My previous pocket camera wouldn't have been able to do anything like as well. It is good that you can use the viewfinder or the rear screen, whichever seems appropriate, if you bring the camera up to your eye the viewfinder comes on and the screen goes off. You can adjust the focus of the image you're viewing in the little viewfinder to your own eye. My bigger camera also has both options but it doesn't detect whether you're using the viewfinder and switch automatically, in fact changing from one to the other usually involves a bit of cursing and hitting buttons many times. The TZ70 also records in a higher frame rate, 50 FPS, better for rapid movement, I recently managed to video a kestrel hovering with rapidly beating wings, for such a shot the higher the frame rate it can manage the better the results will look. Like any small camera recording outside can pick up unwanted wind noise and it doesn't have a microphone input. If you want to record sound you have to do your best to shield the top of the camera from the wind.
