The supercontinent Pangaea, with its connected South America and Africa, broke apart 200 million years ago. But the continents haven't stopped shifting -- the tectonic plates beneath our feet (in Earth's two top layers, the lithosphere and the asthenosphere) are still traveling at about the rate your fingernails grow. Michael Molina discusses the catalysts and consequences of continental drift.

I suspect this was like a musician recording a demo with the low-tech instruments he had available and then realizing, "Hey, this is better than I imagined!" I agree. Very well done, whatever the inspiration behind it.

No one honestly considers lunar drag, solar drag, or centrifical force as driving plate motion anymore. The strength of these 'forces' are far far too small. Plate motion is driven by slab push, slab pull, and mantle convection.

Great animation, but there are two big inaccuracies that should be noticed. 1) The layers of the Earth's inside are very much not to scale, but I can see, why you choose to focus on just the names of the layers and not their relative thickness. 2) BUT! You actually show two different theories of the Earth's inside! One defined by depth/density (crust, mantle, cores) - and one defined by temperature/pressure (lithosphere, asthenosphere, mesosphere). You will often see them mixed together, but I think one terminology is plenty for students - unless they want to study geology. With that said, the concept of the continental and oceanic crusts floating on the hotter and more dense lithosphere is brilliant for demonstrations!
