I would love Fr. Dcn to respond to the accusation by some Orthodox that the Latin Church is really the "Frankish" church (ridiculous accusation but I'd like to see a response)

Brother, it seems to be ideological bitterness on their part. It’s all about the coronation of the Frank Charlemagne as the “Holy Roman Emperor” in the year 800. And how Eastern Orthodoxy’s _ethos_ mingles the Roman Empire with ecclesiastical businesses and, not surprisingly, Roman primacy. For example, popes were appointed by Byzantine Emperors in a period of history known as the “Byzantine Papacy” (from 537-752). Take the example of Pope St Martin I, who was arrested and exiled by the Emperor and one who is a great saint for both Catholics and Orthodox: Pope St Martin was appointed by the Emperor and one of the so-called “Byzantine Popes”. But that dominance was pretty much the result of Emperor Justinian the Great conquering what is known as (nowadays) Italy in the Gothic Wars. But the Byzantines couldn’t be there in the West for much longer due to a series of sequenced military defeats. So the Byzantine (East Roman) definitive defeat in their conquering of Italy (and the desire of reuniting the Roman Empire West and East) came in the Byzantine-Lombard wars, when the Exarchate of Ravenna, a Byzantine protectorate of the Emperor, fell to the warring Kindgom of Lombadia. Then the Lombards were at the gates of Rome and the defeated Byzantines were impotent to protect the Apostolic See, mostly because they were already militarily devastated by the Islamic Saracens in the Eastern part of the Empire at that time (Islam is a whole new religion only recently founded). One Byzantine military defeat after the other, that pushed the popes to seek for military protection of the Carolingian Kingdom, at the time the strongest military Western potency. After defeating the Lombard warriors in Italy, Charlemagne was few years later - due to a lot of political intricacies - proclaimed as the “Holy Roman Emperor” and “protector of Rome”, a mission and name that caused - for sure - harsh susceptibilities to the Byzantine pride, that in a sense all military defeats couldn’t appease. It just further proves, in my estimation, that their religious system represents the epitomized imperialism of Christian religion - or the religion of the Empire, which is very different from Catholic integralism, by the way.

its hard to appreciate the papacy when he allowed Nancy Pelosi to commit sacrilege , we are not leaving the church but we have to define error as error and not be afraid to point it out

Unfortunately, Ukraine is on a bit of an ego trip in relation to Russia recently. Russia and its language are so incredibly connected to orthodoxy and Christianity that much of its lexicon still old church Slavonic. Even the design of words is affected by old Church Slavonic. Much more than Ukrainian. The spirituality found in Russia with such that the communist needed to focus all of their efforts on the Russian heartland. The oldest icon of eastern Slavic orthodox beliefs is in Novgorod in Russia. The oldest not destroyed eastern Slavic Orthodox Church is in Novgorod. It is extremely unfortunate that Kirill is the patriarch of Moscow, but that does not negate the legitimacy of Russian orthodoxy. Pope Francis needs to focus his efforts on warming up to the Russian people so that they will desire reunion with Rome. The Russian people have a deep spirituality that would benefit the Catholic Church greatly pushing them aside, because of politics is naïve and stupid. In many ways, unfortunately Pope Francis is not very strategic or bright so he’ll probably miss this opportunity like most other popes have.
