I watched this series when it aired 8-10PM Saturdays on CBS. I didn't see the superior movie until years later.

Courts do indeed “say.” Using “say” is perfectly appropriate. In Latin _dictum_ is a noun for “something said.” Golly is simply too informal, but “say” is fine.

S 1 E 9 ~ "Moot Court" ~ Nov 21, 1978 A simulated courtroom debate pairs Hart with Elizabeth Logan, and lackadaisical Bell with a highly disciplined military student.

In this episode, the Bell storyline was poorly written as far as Bell was concerned. Even if he didn't want to be a trial lawyer, any law student knows that winning at moot court is good resume fodder. And, in this case he has a teammate and had to know he might draw someone who wanted to do well. He's grumpy and angry but there's no motivation behind it.

Military school graduate (with a bachelor’s in engineering) with a rank of lieutenant in the U.S. Army, not a student.

I didn’t go to law school I went to medical school at Michigan State. We rarely if ever called each other by our last names. I don’t get it

Just TV silliness. I went to law school and students of course did not call each other by their last names.

This was the 70s and I know for a fact that undergrads at Swarthmore, a school often ranked higher than Harvard’s college, did call each other by their last names up through at least the late 1960s.

Logan was the best character on the show. The series went down in later seasons, after she left.

Interesting, I thought she was awful. Nothing likable about her. I prefer the female characters they created when Showtime brought the series back in 1983.

@@gheller2261, good characters aren’t likable; they’re interesting, provocative, compelling, etc., but likability, despite the popular wisdom of network executives, has little to do with a good character. Some of the best shows I’ve seen didn’t have a single character I “liked.”

She didn’t leave. The show was canceled by CBS then picked up by A&E *a number of years later.* The actor simply wasn’t considered appropriate for casting, or she was not available or was uninterested to return to reprise the role.

What a stupid reaction to being accosted on the street. "You're kidding" with a smile?
