Origami King is lookin pretty hot. It’s not 100% 1:1 TTYD clone but it does away with stickers, has traditional battle with a cool new puzzle element, audience is back, grand epic scale of adventure is back, original boss and even if they are classic enemies they feel new as origami creations. Partners join you. Characters with tons of personality... it seems to deliver to me.

@@ActionJaxonH we don't know if partners are actually back. The trailer is very vague. There is no evidence of any character having tons of personality yet. Battle system is just sticker star's but with a menu instead of stickers and with a ring gimmick. Yeah, no stickers is an improvement but that battle system was pretty bad even without them and the ring mechanic might just end up even more tedious and annoying. Origami King might still be a good game but to say it's delivering on what the core Paper Mario fans wanted is just untrue. Origami King looks to me like 90% Color Splash/Sticker Star. It takes little to no inspiration from the classics.

Correction on the Forsaken Lands, if you get far enough in that area and mess up, you won't have to reset all the way to the beginning. It just pushes you back a certain amount of rooms to try again more quickly. It's much more convenient than the Lost Woods, which does a total reset of progress. This one is on more of a "checkpoint" system.

Superguard requires good timing and is more risk plus reward, yoshi and goombella goes great with the rush badges. you just got to experiment with you partners, still bug fables is still awesome though.

Anyways, I'm glad I saw this video because every rare occasion I hear about Bug Fables, but never had a chance to learn more about it other than it's inspired by Paper Mario. This is a good established comparison between the 2 games, and I now understand Bug Fables has a place to be worthy of being a Paper Mario substitute for the fans even though I probably never play the game myself. However, there are some points in your argument I don't agree on, even the ones that are entirely opinion base. Mainly when you stated Bug Fables has what Paper Mario don't, and its clear you missed a few things. Like the Badge that instantly defeats weak enemies that you can only get in 100 Trails at Floor 80, and a majority of the game's story lore and backstory can be obtained by one guy on a rooftop; just to name a few. But I do agree with you on thing, if TTYD has a fast travel system like Bug Fables that would negate a majority of backtracking, especially when it comes to locating General White. I mean, Mario has a magical map, implement a fast system on that.

Also, I understand bump attack is pretty low in the pit (I wanna say 80?), but it has the same function as that badge you were mentioning, auto defeating weak enemies, there is a budget alternative in the badge shop that only works with first strikes.

In Paper Mario, that's treated as being done with the game, as if you don't need to fight things because you proved you can make it this far. In Bug Fables, it's treated as being done with the enemies, as if you don't need to keep fighting the same set of enemies because you proved mastery over how they fight and have gained more than enough EXP from this area. All because of the placement.

Err... Bump attack exists, however, it is on the 80th floor of the Pit. There is however, the first attack badge, that does the same thing but you have to have a first strike to trigger it, and is found after chapter 2 in the badge shop.

in TTYD you can buy first attack after chr 1 and if you first strike an enemy that only gives 1 star point it instantly kills it and on floor 80 (i think) of the pit you can get bump attack which does the same thing w/o the need for a first strike (neither work in the pit nor palace of shadow)

IMO my personal least favourite part of Bug Fables were the two stealth missions, especially the second one, I don't remember the details too much but I do remember being very frustrated at them to the point where I actually stopped playing for a couple days. I've never played the first two PM games because I don't have the consoles they're on (plus I'm not dropping $50 to rent the first game for a year), so Bug Fables felt like a great way to experience what those games were like and I enjoyed it. I so hope they release more. I especially love the theming of bugs, something I don't feel like enough games make use of.

I might check out Bug Fables at some point, as it does look pretty fun, but I have a really hard time believing I'll enjoy it as much as you. There is no way in hell it'll beat Thousand Year Door for me, that's for damn sure. Also, Goombella was actually the party member I used the most. Her having something to say about every area and character in the game makes her by far the most valuable partner for me, and filling out the Tattle-log was always fun.

I played the PC demo when it was still early in development and loved it. When I got it on Switch, I played the first two chapters and then kinda moved on. I guess I was a bit overwhelmed by all the characters. With Paper Mario, I could already relate to all the Mario mainstays and new races/characters were introduced gradually enough to keep me invested. But every single character in Bug Fables was novel to me, so it took a lot to be invested in their story/motivations. Even just the character designs. But once you tough through that road bump, it becomes an amazing game. Just take the time to understand and relate to the three heroes and all the other critters and it will be a more than rewarding experience.

The pit also has another downside, it's pretty challenging to do pre hooktail pit runs (aside close call grinding) but if you do, you'll be do high level, that the rest of the game is a joke. Also, if you attempt the pit after hooktail, having earth tremor pretty much negates most of the challenge, and post chapter 1 badges and items make it even easier

TTYD also has a badge that prevents combat encounters with weaker enemies. Granted, it’s missable, and you have to land a first strike for the badge to come into effect.

I'm a big Citizens Of Earth and Space fan and I do think the combat/gameplay does look like Paper Mario but the people behind Eden Industries say they want Citizens Of Space to be like Super Mario RPG and I gotta say it turned out great at the end. :) P.S. I really enjoy and like Paper Mario Sticker Star and Color Splash both are great games in my opinion that's all.

The forsaken lands are absolutely not comparable to the backtracking in ttyd "How was i supposed to know how to go kn the pumpkin?" By playing rhe game, because moving ice blocks to get to higher places is introduced in CHAPTER O N E

For the cooking thing, I had that exact same gripe until my recent playthrough where I actually tried tapping the A button (I played it on the Switch) and discovered you can speed up the cooking animation by doing that. I was seriously amazed that I didn't know about that the first time. It should have been obvious, and I was kicking myself for not knowing that. (I also didn't know about Chompy until my recent playthrough as well) Now my only real gripe is how annoying it is to make the Queen's Meal, especially later in the game where making it almost felt like a necessity to me. (Although that was mainly during my first playthrough. During my second playthrough, I realized just how much more beneficial medal points are than HP)

You yourself concede that TTYD has better chapters, music, boss battles, plot, etc. I feel that those are more important than the side quests. TTYD is a more polished game overall in my opinion. Better chapters in story? Absolutely. But in gameplay...like half of ttyd is atrocious, and the bowser and peach parts are pacebreakers. Better music? Subjective Better bosses? ...absolutely not, all of the bosses in bug fables absolutely destroy those in ttyd, they're so much more challenging and engaging Plot? Also not really, every character in bug fables is actually tridimensional, while in ttyd the villain wants to awaken the shadow queen....to be powerful. Which in fairness is the same for the wasp king, but ttyd just lacks the character struggle that makes the wasp king engaging

I’ve used Yoshi, Vivian, Goombella and Koops the most in TTYD. As cool as Admiral Bobbery is, I only found his Bomb and Bom-ombast moves to be useful. All Admiral Bobbery has going for him is an awesome character design and high damage party hitting attacks.

5:05 .. ACTUALLY From the multiple times i've beat the game, the best and most fun strategy has been EASILY to stack BP(Badge Points) and equip all of the *P-up D-Down* badges for party members AND mario.. Use goombellas charge move then her multibounce, she hits far harder than any partner. I'm trying a similar strategy in Bug fables but it doesn't seem to work for Vi's boomerang abilities as well, unfortunately. I can't seem to find any medals that flat out "increase damage". The only thing i've been able to find so far is Lief's Empower ability, which sacrifices his turn and only keeps the attack steroid going for 2 turns, as well as costs points to use.

I did that strategy, but, I did Vi and poison. There's a bunch of medals that increase attack and defense when poisoned. There's also a medal that gives poison when healing with items. That and using the medal that stacks the whole party's attack when a specific partner is hit works very well.

for medals that just flat out increase your damage, there's poison attacker, empower and empower+, power exchange, a lot of vi and kabbu's ability medals (especially mightier pebble), the adbp enhancer and berserker if you're feeling generous

I find myself overall agreeing with this video. I feel like TTYD has better high points than Bug Fables, but Bug Fables is just a more well-rounded experience and is better overall for it. I'm rather surprised that there was no mention of Vi's beemerang during the nitpicks section though. That thing is just plain clunky to use for puzzles since the angling needs to be quite precise and it's really easy to overshoot a target because of the fairly low camera angle that the whole game has.

My biggest problem with this game is the power system. Through chapter 1-3 I felt no power progression just very stagnant and no +1 to my attack. So as the enemies around me got stronger I was becoming weaker. Until I hit chapter 4 and got all these badges where it was too reliant on them instead powering up the 3 main characters. Now I'm at chapter 6 currently and I feel pretty strong but I honestly wish the game would add 1+ damage for the character that got the new upgrade. Also more berry drops I was broke for half the game.

I feel like you didn't explore enough, then You can beat scarlet in chapter 3 from a hp stealing medal, you can get multiple very good hard mode medals from artis, in chapter 2 you get weak stomach and can buy poison defender in the ant kingdom, after beating scarlet you unlock a whole variety of new badges in the secret underground, what are you talking about?

To me, the comparison between the two is the weird case where "graphics" make a game better than the other. And what I mean with graphics is art design. Paper Mario locations, bosses, character design, just makes the game more enjoyable to me. Even tho bug fables has much better gameplay.

Mario world is well established. Mario kart popularity confirms this. Naturally the Mario IP draws more people in. If Colour Splash and Super Paper Mario had original characters people wouldn't buy the game. The IP branding is strong when selling products. However if you think that way with everything, new IPs will never be born. Bug Fable's character lore is probably deeper than the entire Mario series or so I heard.

I agree . . . kinda. I have massive nostalgia for the Mario characters and the Paper Mario bosses. That's why I was shocked that I grew to like Bug Fables more.
