The Pat Riley-Danny Ainge beef marinated for over 30 years, then got real spicy real fast

Pat Riley and Danny Ainge faced each other as part of the Lakers-Celtics rivalry. They were on either side of one of the NBA's biggest ever brawls. They coached against each other. None of that amounted to beef.
But decades into their parallel careers, Riley and Ainge became rival executives -- for the Celtics and Miami Heat, respectively -- and once provoked, their mutual animus suddenly saw the light of day. Executive beef is a whole other flavor, the stuff of press releases and seemingly pointed transactions.
This beef took a while to marinate, but for the brief period it flared up, it was pretty funny.

I'll tell ya who else Danny Ainge also has beef with - it's Chipotle, because my dude gets double steak. Seriously, I used to be a manager at a location in Boston and he was there every single day, ordering insanely large bowls every time. We loved having him in, he was super nice to everyone, knew a lot of our staff by name. I will never forget him showing me Michael Jordan on his caller ID to explain why he needed to step out of line mid-order one time, which might be the biggest flex I've ever seen.

I would love a series focused on the idea of the journeyman. What it means to be good enough to be in the league but never important enough to stay on one team. The ups and downs, the miles traveled. I would watched half hour doc on guys like Jeff Green or Cordarrelle Patterson.

Met Danny Ainge at an early screening of the original Space Jam in Vancouver, BC Canada of all places. Guess they had the Grizzlies franchise at that time. Movie was over. I walked out and he must have been waiting for someone just outside the theatre doors. He’s not NBA tall, but still VERY tall to the average kid. I bumped into him, looked up and the words I spoke were, “Hello Danny Ainge. You are the greatest 3 point shooter of all time.” He looked at me and said, “ Come on,” like we both knew it wasn’t true. He wasn’t even ever the best on his own team. “Thanks Kid.”
