Thanks Brian. Ed was one of the lifters that got me lifting in 92'. I learned so much by watching him and others in Powerlifting USA. Thanks... I'm now 68' ...I was never injured training or competition. I've now had several knee surgeries ,two back fusions etc. All occured more than 10 years after I stopped lifting.

I met the GOAT at the 1999 USPF Seniors in Dallas, Tx. His 1019 squat was easily the coolest lift I've ever seen in person (and I've seen a lot). I was coaching another lifter in the same flight and Ed used my shoulders as a resting point (remember those old Inzer shirts that made you walk like a zombie?) before one of his bench attempts. He said something like "be useful" with a big smile. Such a nice dude.

Ed truly is the GOAT. His demeanor and humbleness is what makes him great. Ive messaged him on social media to critique a video of me deadlifting and he took the time to give me pointers and praised certain things I was doing. This is how champions and winners should be. Thanks Ed!

Mr. Ed Coan, I think you've peaked your Podcast Brian, it's all down hill from here, unless Nick gets on more regularly, then there's a chance. Speaking on just competing with yourself and staying within the things you can control is huge. In a world of Instagram Brad Castleberry's and others who are poaching those who don't know any better, it's important to stay in your lane and focus on the things you can control. Competitions are fun as hell for most of us, we're not all hitting world record PR's and such, the atmosphere and events really test ourselves. The number 1 goal should be to go in and get after it, pushing yourself and getting stronger and beating yourself, in the end if you end up on the podium that should be an added bonus. I'll say the only exception really would be those in the top 1% of the top 1% who are making a living off their strength and breaking world records.
