Cycle? What cycle is that David is brought into? He wants to kill to sentient species deliberately. I never meet or heard of someone who wants to kill even one, maybe some death cult I haven’t read enough about have wanted to kill one sentient species deliberately, but they are not very relevant or representative of what humans are, just what sickness of the brain, brain damage might result in. David is a good villain, but not something that is very human as I know humans, only read about rear cases of people who seem to hate the world, the people I know with personality disorders doesn’t want to kill humanity, maybe one or to who have done something to them, but they are not even planning to do that, only it would be nice if it happened. Planning to kill Species isn’t normal around were I live 😮

When David calls Walter "brother" and talks of building an empire, I immediately thought of Rome and its 2 brother founders romulus and remus. @@matthewestrada5217 they should have actually done work with the comics. With Ridley saying "the aliens not in newt I'm not a monster" but then she dies in the crash? And hicks? And Ripley gets impregnated only to die and be cloned and brought back in another film? Only to change all that to a bunch of crap to try and introduce the larger aspect of aliens. With the engineers poorly done, and the rogue aspect of an android supposedly creating the aliens or altering the goo and the creatures to create aliens? That or I missed it and he was just well researching them. When obvious lore states that in that case the predators have hunted them since before humanity? It's honestly I think they just didnt know where they wanted to go and fumbled it. If disney ever does anything with it they will destroy the series completely. Itll be all CGI AMD flare with no real story all designed to be oooooh and ahhhhhh in a theatre. Disney doesnt care about a story anymore just something to get peoples senses riled up and spend money on it. In the comics and universe of aliens it's at its core got a big message for humanity in that humanities grad basically almost destroys itself. If humanity was on one footing then they would have had it delt with. But the story smh it's like a pile of vomit in the films to me overall. After the first one AMD the divergence from the comics wich would have been better honestly. ..... it just idk. Doesnt make any sense. Did the elephant guys make them? The engineers? Did they evolve? Once again, the novelization holds great details that just don't make it to the screen, to the franchise's detriment. I disagree on the focus being AI and David - that time has passed. A successful next installment should look at humanity and the threat of the uncaring universe, a la The Expanse. Go read Free League's Alien RPG and rewatch the Alien videos that came out the other year - they get it. It's also why we loved the first 2 films - normal people (space truckers, marines) finding out that human hubris and capitalism are nothing to the horror of the cosmos. No more of these esoteric stories (Alien 3, 4, 6) that get lost in their own navel.
@metheusdeacon1326

These are David’s words from the book novelization of Alien Covenant. “Creature all finger like with a coiled muscular tail, yes I did try to create something like this or better, but I don’t have thousands of years of practice at biological and genetic engineering. I have only my pitiable programming on which to draw. That, and ten years of earnest effort on my own behalf. I have learned only a little, yet I soldier on hoping always to achieve something like this, I had nothing to do with it, a supreme example of the engineers skill. And also I suppose, of their hubris” This suggests that David is not the creator of the xenomorph, as he wanted to learn for himself how potent the Pathogen is and if it has any limitations, his obsession is to create what the engineers did in the past, but to see if he can do it any better, like I say which he admits he can't. Plus in Prometheus we see loads of dead bodies of the engineers, all stacked up against the wall in the engineers ship, the bodies have puncture wounds in their chests, and we saw a hologram video of the engineers running, possibly from an escaped Deacon or xenomorph, because you can hear it's high pitched scream just as the engineers appear running. This happened in the past before David even started experimenting. Also on LV-223 the Prometheus ship when mapping out the engineers ship, detects a lifeform near the cargo hold, this appears only for a short time then quickly disappears, this could be a deacon or the large worm creature that we later see, or Prometheus could be picking up the life sign's of the one remaining engineer on that ship ?? Also there are many other engineer ship's according to David, that may or may not have more engineer's onboard ?? Prometheus 2089 then jumps to 2093 when they land on LV-223 Alien Covenant: year is roughly 2103/4 the crew are scheduled to land on Origae-6 in 2110 but received an unknown SOS or warning message from a nearby planet in 2103/4 present day, which they are a few weeks away judging from the Covenant colony ship's speed, so they decide to temporarily divert closer to this uncharted planet, so the Lander has less distance to travel. Alien: year is 2122 the crew aboard the Nostromo received a unknown message from the planet/moon LV-426 All the crew were killed a part from Ripley, once in the life boat shuttle she was hoping to be picked up in about 3 to 6 weeks, and she can't wait to see her daughter again back on Earth for her 11th birthday. Alien Isolation: this is set 15 years after Alien, year is 2137 I've read the novelisation it tells the story of Ripley's daughter called Amanda, who at roughly 26 years old gets information regarding the possibility of finding her mother. Alien Out Of The Shadows: the year is 2159 (37 years after Alien) Ash has entered his artificial intelligence into Ripley's escaped life boat shuttle, which he uses to try and find the Alien xenomorph species again. Ash traces a xenomorph species to a mining planet LV-178 and quickly jettisons the fuel, as Ash is still trying to carry out special order 937 Ripley is picked up by one of the mining ships orbiting the mining planet LV-178, she goes through hell yet again with the Aliens but is saved by one of the mining engineers, but Ripley gets her memory wiped by Ash of all events on LV-178 She escapes with help again in her original life boat shuttle untill 2179 Alien River Of Pain: set in 2165 to 2179 This tells the story of doomed Hadley's Hope including Newt the little girl, the only survivor who Ripley finds later in the film Aliens. Aliens: the year is 2179 (57 years after Alien) again set on LV426 where Ripley goes back again with a group of armed marines and finds Newt. Van Leuwen said to Ripley at the end of her court proceedings, that there's been 30+ families for over 20 years on LV-426, and they've never reported any hostile organism. Alien 3: the year is 2179 set on Fiorina 161 a prison complex. I like the idea like a lot of other people have mentioned, of this Alien 3 film being a dream or nightmare of Ripley's, and she soon wakes up to discover Hick's and Newt are still alive. Or sadly they're dead which is a shame considering the hell, Ripley went through and Hick's to save Newt, just seems a waste. I definitely prefer the special edition director's cut to Alien 3, which is much closer to the novelisation. David has been on LV-223 in 2093 and seen with his own eyes what this stuff the Pathogen is capable of, plus is the only member of the Prometheus & Covenant crew who understands the engineers ship and some of their language. He then spent 10 years on a uncharted planet possibly Paradise from 2094 to 2103/4, experimenting with the Pathogen. David is now onboard the Covenant colonist ship posing as Walter with access to thousands of colonists, on there remaining 7 year journey to Origae-6 which they are due to arrive by 2110 Origae-6 is ment to be very similar to Earth with water and breathable air, it won't be LV-426 as this hasn't any breathable atmosphere yet, well not untill at least the late 2150s when they build the large atmosphere processing structure to make the air breathable on LV-426, ready for the new arrivals at Hadley's Hope 2160 onwards.

There were at least 3 new books released roughly in 2014 published by Titan Books, I only added two of them as they fit the time line ok, but one of them is set in the future by a few hundred years. 1) Alien Out Of The Shadows (written by Tim Lebbon) the year is 2159 (37 years after Alien) Ash has entered his artificial intelligence into Ripley's escaped life boat shuttle, which he uses to try and find the Alien xenomorph species again. Ash traces a xenomorph species to a mining planet LV-178 and quickly jettisons the fuel, as Ash is still trying to carry out special order 937 Ripley is picked up by one of the mining ships orbiting the mining planet LV-178, she goes through hell yet again with the Aliens but is saved by one of the mining engineers, but Ripley gets her memory wiped by Ash of all events on LV-178 She escapes with help again in her original life boat shuttle untill 2179 2) Alien River Of Pain (written by Christopher Golden) This tells the story of doomed Hadley's Hope set in 2165 to 2179 Basically it's about Newt the little girl, the only survivor who Ripley finds later in the film Aliens. This book tells the back story just before Newt is born, gives you info on her relationship with her parents and her brother, how they don't like her playing with the other kids in the vent shafts, plus tells you how and when the colonists started dropping like flies. Plus there's a marine who knows Newt's mum who tries to save her, Newt and her brother. 3) Alien Sea Of Sorrows (written by James A. Moore) This is set a few hundred years in the future from roughly 2159, again it's set on LV-178 and concentrates on a guy called Alan Decker, who turns out to be a descendant of Ripley's, he has a gift of being able to pick up the Aliens thoughts, and as LV-178 is colonised in the future, Weyland Yutani insist that he helps the marines on there mission, to search for the remains of the long lost mines set in the depths underground on LV-178 I've read all 3 of the above books, I'd say River Of Pain is the best one, closely followed by Out Of The Shadows, which is really good. The last book I listed - Sea Of Sorrows, again this is quite a good read but is set so far in the future that it doesn't as of yet fit the current time line, which is why I didn't list it on my original post.

I'm with you wanting to see Blomkamp's vision come to life, especially after seeing the artwork for it. I personally am just not the biggest fan of Promethius or Covenant. Neither thrill or captivate me as much as Alien/Aliens do. Even the rest of the series (Which I honestly dislike immensely) are more fun and re-watchable to me then Ridley's new material. Prometheus and Covenant are just too bleak and depressing to me. David is a great villain but I want some kind of comeuppance for him for the destruction he has wrought. It's just not satisfying to me as a duology. Maybe a third film would bring some sort of catharsis for me with this new series? I'm not sure. I think that the hint of erasing Alien 3 and Alien: Resurrection and bringing back Hicks and Newt in a new timeline gave me such a burst of joy that now nothing else will compare to that concept. Those characters were so wrongly killed off after such an epic and heartwarming ending in Aliens. I would have loved to see better ending for them and for Ripley.

I've often wondered if the heavy religious themes Covenant is dripping in are why so many people didn't like it. As if to say Covenant is a conversation most people don't want to have. The very opening scene evokes the themes of Paradise Lost, "Did I request thee, Maker, from my clay to mould me man?". David is even named after the king that ruled through conquest, which David later states as his goal. Then there's the powerful Cain and Able parallels between David and Walter. David could even be seen in a Luciferian light, essentially in exile from the heaven of humanity to create his own kingdom, even implying it himself when mentioning ruling in Hell. Personally I love the idea Covenant presented of uniting the Xenomorph and AI narrative into one. One of the most chilling scenes in the first movie was Ash lamenting how perfect the xenomorph was. Plus more Fassbender is never a bad thing, lol

And this would explain the original Alien: the Engineer ship found on LV426 was one of the (possibly) many ships David sent through the universe, packed with eggs to spread his "empire" through his vision of "elegant warfare". The Engineer pilot could be a clone he made through DNA manipulation to create servile Engineers able to pilot the ships, and this one would have succumbed to a containment breach that got him infected? Or the use of the use of the Pathogen to clone it would have made it a host from birth, with a DNA enabling the growth of an alien inside him at some point (maybe even a Neomorph?)... There are so many possibilities! Lots of people hate to be left without clear answers, but it also allows us to create many theories, making the lore even more alive in our minds!

Alien Theory is my constant source to Alien news, new as old. You're the best! And my goodness, this was bloody good! Covenant just became so much better & intelligent. Why the hell wasn't any of this mentioned here in the movie? David becomes even more fleshed out, his possible agenda, as well as it gives us more to look forward to in the (hopefully) next installment. Knowing what he wants is a serious hint to a continuation. Now we only have a weak version of a hint what could happen next. Also Walter was given more to say & do here. And I deeply appreciate that Daniels states that they DID check thoroughly for pathogens & viruses etc before they landed, & did so again upon landing. This is one of the strongest criticism of this film, that the humans just step outside without protection. They really shouldn't have anyway but the novel at least suggested they didn't do that as total idiots, that they actually did make checks first. These missing adds & parts of story, dialogue etc had not saved Covenant financially but it had made it better in a more intelligent way, you feel from this missing information that there was more method & plan both from David but also from the film makers themselves. It very much now feels we got the lazy version of the film. Now I am almost thinking about getting the novel, it could potentially be better than the film. And, yep, I absolutely want the third film. I deeply dislike Prometheus but Covenant is a weird guilty pleasure. David is such a strong, fascinating character, love or hate this we should have a proper end to his story. Otherwise will this unfinished business just be an annoying thorn in our sides. The only thing stopping this is the financial aspect. A third Alien prequel film about David is a huge risk & I believe that will always be the biggest hinder. That & the fact that Ridley is now quite old. How much longer can he make movies? Time is running out in so many ways. Let's hope Disney has some brains to realize that much at least.

(with a cranky old man's voice) I've noticed that films made...starting in the 21st century are purposely sparse on exhibition. The adage "don't say it, show it", keeps rising up to new levels... and it's really chapping my hide. First of all... I'm a little slow. And I'm never sure what the film maker is really showing me, or how I'm supposed to interpret what I see...just to follow the story.... and films often don't have real endings either. It seems you have to wait for the Blue-Ray edition and watch it frame by frame....or watch a youtube channel (like this one), to find out "what really happened in that damn movie". I'm hoping it's just a passing fad (for 30 years or so), and the newer generation of film fans will demand more clarity... and maybe they will finally phase out endless "shaky cam" too.... because...Dramamine makes me groggy, and I sure need to take it so I don't puke myself during the show. I'm getting old and decrepit, and probably won't be alive to witness such wonders.... but I sure can dream.

I never felt he created them. Remember in Prometheus, the Xenomorph looking sculpture above the green jewel in the room with all of the pods and big alien face, also with the decapitated head? The Xenomorph was already there, the serum is a catalyst for change. A unperfected catalyst. David was merely trying to change it to his idea of perfection.

There were so many good ideas in the earlier drafts of both prequels that ultimately got scrapped. So many missed opportunities, it's a real shame. I also can't understand why they would leave out the bit of dialogue about the crew having scanned for viruses before they landed. Everyone thought it was dumb how the they seemingly landed on the planet without the slightest consideration of the potential danger. I wish there could be one more film that would right the ship. Explain that David did NOT create the alien, but rather worked to re-create it by following the Engineer's research. It would explain the presence of the Deacon in Prometheus, and it could reconcile why the ship on LV-426 is apparently so old.

I wonder what 70's Ridley Scott and crew would have come up with as far as the origins of the Alien, and if it would be different from now. I'd like to see what befell the engineers in Prometheus. I think leaving that crisis unexplored hurt the movie's story. Honestly, I think Ridley Scott doesn't understand what makes people come back for the Alien, it's not the stupid AI, it's the Creature, and wanting a more satisfying origin story than "robot makes killing thing because human's bad". Prometheus was a letdown for me because it felt like it was a 2-hour long tease that never lead anywhere. Covenant was a letdown because even with the proto-morphs and the "proto-alien" It felt like another tease. It makes such a grandiose attempt at explaining the Xenomorphs origin (and how they are supposed to be made by an earth android) that it makes the movie Alien look pointless. Parts in Prometheus were interesting, like the idea that jesus was supposed to be an engineer. Some sort of retaliation by the Engineers being stopped by whatever was a good concept. The ship in Alien could have been that, and the xenomorphs, or one specifically, getting the pilot like it obviously did, causing the ship to crash or never take off. Both movies were so convoluted with David and his ideals, it's like Ridley was trying to tell two stories, side by side, not giving enough time or attention to either. I would love to see a new origin told, one that didn't make the first movie feel like RS is trying to overshadow it. I think he's got too much of Bladerunner in his mind to be handling a proper Alien movie. Hell Alien Isolation was a better installment as a "movie" than Prometheus, Covenant, and 3.

@@Xenosaurian Interesting! I feel the Engineers never intended to create any "beasts". How can one be obsessed with something and yet show no interest in it's origins or creators and decide to annihilate the entire planet and the very reason they embarked on their quest in the first place! So he can be alone with his new toy? A little too "far fetched" for me. Even if it was down to the most twitchy malfunction in the history of synthetics. :)

I like the prequels, Prometheus more than Covenant. As much as I understand the point that some have had: that the alien might have been better left unexplained and mysterious, I think the world is more interesting with the addition of the Engineers as humanoid beings with minds and motives incomprehensible or estranged to our own. I feel that angle of cosmic horror was more interesting than David's god complex storyline, though it is a storyline elevated by Michael Fassbender's acting. As such, I do want to see some kind of resolution to the David story, and Covenant serves well enough as a second part to David's plot, but sadly falls far short as a further exploration of the wider mythos Prometheus teased (though the neomorphs and David's experiments aren't unwelcome), and as a 'traditional' alien story (I feel making them an android's pet project severely diminishes them). I'd rather have a movie focussed properly on David and more akin to Prometheus with its strange and hostile universe without relying so much on ol' Bananahead as a crutch, especially so early on in the timeline, and then have a sequel with Weyland-Yutani and the used future we all know as a separate film.

I agree, I just wanted more of the engineers and less of a callback to the xenomorph. That was always one of the things that I wanted to know more about in the original movie. One of the impressions I was left with from the last movie. Davey boy has a colony ship and xenomorph eggs, and being a complete bastard I think the direct attack on Earth isn't his style. If Scott asserts that the Bladerunner and Alien universes are identical, I really *would* like to see something which sews that together more fully, and perhaps in some way does a better job of meshing the Scott and Cameron visions together (or even against each other, but in a plot-explained way). There's a huge variety of angles which can be played back and forth.

I really hope they make a 3rd movie that finishes David’s story and ultimately explains the biomechanical nature of the xenomorph vs the more organic praetomorph, maybe David finds a way to use himself as an incubator upon realizing the missing piece is what makes him better than humans: synthetics. Please please please Ridley Scott make the third film. It makes me so angry that people hated a movie I loved and so it’s conclusion may never be made, but lets have hope!

An interesting exploration of the differences between the original screenplay and the theatrucal release. As always, such a tragedy that these themes and more were not included in the movie. Inevitably, movies tend to only scratch the surface of what could have ultimately been, pandering only to what audiences (and studio executives) expect.

I feel the very essence of this saga fading away. I am a 23 y/o fan of this films, and I used to be scared to death of this creature, and it was because of the suspense and the mysterious nature of what was out there hunting the crews. I feel that the prequels have focused too much on trying to nail every edge of this universe and its origin, and left behind the horrific suspense that it should have. You can tell by the final act from Covenant, in which, after all the 2 hours of almost purely explaining, they tried to go back to the inside-the-ship suspense of having this “unknown organism” running around. I like the explanation from Prometheus and Covenant though, but I would like a third prequel that brings back this iconic villain with the terror that it deserves to inflict on the audience. I want to sh*t my pants at the movies when I see it for the first time. I want it to bring back that feeling of helplessness and desperation, like the videogame Alien Isolation did.

His intention was part directive and part curiosity. At this point David questioned his own existence, and the relationship between maker and made. There is no greater honor given to one's master than the honor gained from their student surpassing their own work. This is apparent in the culmination of his work being considered both biological and mechanical in nature. He proved he could create more effectively than those who created him. Perfection was his goal, hell was his legacy.

I always thought the comic, Aliens: Apocalypse: The Destroying Angels did a really good job exploring the Engineers. Also it had amazing artwork. I remember thinking (before Prometheus) that the Aliens were some kind of bio weapon created by a long dead race. Maybe not even the Engineers but someone older than them. It's a neat "theory" to explore. Maybe eggs are immortal and the ship from Alien could've been there for hundreds or thousands of years. Maybe it was old when humans were still living in caves! The mind goes to all sorts of crazy places. Like David said. Humans can't resist a mystery. So it came as a bit of a shock when... all my theories were thrown out the window and the Xenomorph is a relatively new creation. Created by the company (indirectly) that sought to control them. So personally... while I can't say I love the new direction that didn't go along with any of my ideas... I still want to see what happens next. How does David's creation get to the ship that the crew of the Nostromo found. Clearly the Engineers aren't all dead. A new mystery that I must unravel!

I can't help but sympathize with those who came out of Prometheus feeling hoodwinked. At first I didn't, I listened to the main complaint about how Ridley Scott made an Alien movie without xenomorphs and it didn't bother me because I wanted a story about the Space Jockey. I agreed with Ridley, xenomorphs had been done to death and done poorly, it was time to expand the mythology with a definitive backstory for the Derelict from the first movie. But I got let down as well because it seems he just wants to focus on androids. Everything's about the androids, the whole story begins and ends with the androids, the whole point is the androids. Why? Because instead of a horror story about the dark mysteries of the universe what we all really need is another introspective critique of the human condition from the perspective of our creations gone mad. That NEVER, EVER gets old. I'm done with the bait and switch, if the next movie or series isn't 100% focused on the Engineers then I'm giving up on any sort of revival for this franchise, it's just Blade Runner 2.0 at this point and heading down the same path as The Terminator: it has nothing fresh to offer and is simply too stubborn to end.
