No film has grown on me with each viewing like this film has. I must of re-watched this 100's of times now and every time I watch it, I notice something new I appreciate. Its just a brilliant sci-fi film that has all the aspects of an epic sci-fi story, Amazing visuals, questioning our place in the universe, elements of horror and some stand out performances (Fassbender of course). It really should be remembered as one of the greatest 100 sci-fi films.

Alien 1979. Watched when i was a kid. When ever i went on top of my house at night stare at the stars i always used to wonder what horrors are lurking in those stars. The funny feeling is the ship and the space jockey. what kind of a being was it ?????? what was he looking at in that huge telescope ???????? Space jockey used to make me think a lot and added to the xenomorph.

Idk, I feel like this was a legitimate effort to expand the universe that is more thoughtful than most people give it credit for. Rather than just the same Xenomorph XX121 it gives an idea of what came before and a whole foundation for how it works. I think it's convoluted but builds my curiosity on how these events may have led to the 'perfect specimen' 29 years later from when Promethius takes place up to when Alien takes place.

I agree. Of all the "bad" entries in the Alien/Predator universe (barring Alien 3, which I consider "love it or hate it"), Prometheus wins by a landslide as the lesser of the evils. Yes, it lead to Alien: Covenant, which is easily my least favourite of the lot, but on the other hand Prometheus was earnest in its efforts to expand the lore by shifting the spotlight from the Alien to the Engineers. And because of that, it raised some pretty good questions on life and existence, and it also created the concept of the Engineers being the ones who created the Aliens through its implications and lore... Which would get thrown out the airlock with Covenant because Ridley Scott made that film as a mean-spirited middle finger to the toxic side of the fandom before being bought back (thank god) with Romulus. Honestly, I wish this movie would get an extended cut like Alien 1 - Resurrection did. The added stuff and original Mutant Fifield design help to bring out the strengths Prometheus has I feel.

I thought that Prometheus was a really good Sci Fi movie- I love it! Everything about it works for me, the fantastic Soundtrack Score, the Amazing Cinematography, the Innovative Story, and a great cast that makes it so thoroughly engrossing!! A movie with depth and meaning, and like ZS Man of Steel, Prometheus seems to get better with every passing Year…..it has a timeless quality that’s for sure!

At the time I was one of the unhappy fans who expected to see the Xenomorph. But after several re-watches the movie absolutely grew on me. I now totally love this movie and my only negativity about the movie is that Ridley didn't stick to his guns and continue to explore this story...Alien Covenant is out of sync and clearly a reaction to the negative reaction Prometheus got. I wish Ridley had stuck with his plan and given us the story of the engineers and thus where the Xenomorph comes from.

A year late, but great point! I know some Alien fans were disappointed by this movie at the time too but the casual movie goers were really what did this films future development in. They were too loud and influential, and ultimately not just Ridley but twentieth century Fox need justification to keep it going or at least something that guarantees more revenue, so I’m sure they took a lot of his creative freedom away before Covenant. It’s such a shame that we may never get a direct follow up to this to explore this side of the franchise. Honestly, and I idc if I get hate for this but it’s got way more substance and incredibly powerful theories to explore than the original 4 movie run. This movie has had me pondering its many themes, getting me knee deep in lore more so than any other movie in the series, it just has an incredible level of detail and for lack of better terms “Easter eggs”, yet so much ambiguity and openness to interpretation. Really and truly underrated! Year later rant over😂

⁠@@DiegoMagengoI'm also late to the party on this thread. I get some of the criticism of this film but I love it. Scott always tried to say it wasn't a full prequel to Alien . It was more of a prequel to the lore of the whole universe. I was gutted about the flack that it got for not being an Alien film, so the studio jumped too far forward rushing the reappearance of the xenomorph. I really wanted more of the engineers after Prometheus as well as the other themes explored. Fassbender's David is an excellent character, bringing in feels of Ash from the original. The movie has such a great tone. I really hope Scott gets to complete this side of the story or at least expand on it. Proper sci fi.

I remember feeling a little conflicted after seeing Prometheus, both me and my wife liked it but wearnt 100% on everything, but the more I've seen it the more I love the film, it's got it's dumb parts, what film doesn't, but it feels like a film set within the Alien universe, from the look to the sound, and the scifi horror elements are implemented well, Covenant is a bit of a polarising sequel, but this one did a lot right... also Noomi Rapace was a great lead and different enough to Ripley but still as tough, I get why people don't like it or have issues with the film, I have issues with the film, but at the same time I like it and it has grown on me.

The problem was that it got out that it was an alien prequel and so I think a lot of casual watchers bought into that. I also remember a bunch of reviewers saying it had plot holes without understanding the definition of that term. And then all the interesting questions brought up in Prometheus were ignored in covenant. Sure film had flaws but it was frustrating to see people hate it because ‘I didn’t understand what was going on’.

Kroft Talks Movies found that in the original script for Prometheus there was dialogue that revealed Vickers hired incompetent scientists on purpose out of hatred for her over bearing father. It is a shame they removed this dialogue as it explains why the crew were, in fact, incompetent.

I honestly loved Prometheus. Loved the premise, loved how it wanted to stay away from the whole Xenomorph thing. And I was damn invested into the Engineers and their history. I wish the sequel was more Prometheus 2 (as Ridley Scott wanted, as far as I know) than the Alien 0 that it ended up being.

Saw it in theaters, was super hyped. I convinced a buddy to go with me. I enjoyed it, though i had gripes, my buddy , not so much. Upon later viewings, i ended up loving it more and more. I love David, he's such an interesting character and really adds an element of mystery we havent had since Aliens. I think Prometheus is an absolutely fantastic movie, and I will NEVER understand the hate and Negativity that it received from some groups of over obsessed fans that you get with any film from the different Genres. I loved Prometheus because it offered us something different and new, while offering all the stunning visuals that we have come to expect from a Ridley Scott Movie, and a great cast, headed by strong performances by Naomi Rapace, Idris Elba, and the ever reliable Michael Fassbender, they were all just brilliant! A fantastic Music Soundtrack only further enhances the unique Prometheus experience, and I can’t enough of this film! It’s a solid 9/10 for me folks!

Since its release and on the digital platform, I've only watched Prometheus maybe 3 times. Contrast this with AVP and AVP2 which I've watched a 12 or so times. Not everyone is a fan of AVP and I get that. You really do sound different back then. Thanks for giving us the 'time capsule' take.

I saw it on opening night. I remember being stoked to see this movie before and when it came out. There was even a cryptic website put out by the studio at the time. We (my friend and I) visited it often and tried to figure the clues out… with no luck of course. We were hoping it was a full on prequel but it wasn’t, and we were kinda bummed but it was okay. However, it was an amazing looking movie with a few bread crumbs and nods to the Alien trilogy that left us feeling good after. As a stand alone movie, I still think its great today.

I love the first half of the movie - scenography, tension, effects, cinematography, music - just perfect. Then comes the second half and all falls apart like a house of cards. Sure, I still like to watch it, I even enjoy the second half, but the negatives are there for sure. Similar to 'Alien', the characters are representative of certain emotional and ideological behaviors human beings have. All the talk about them acting irrationally is true, but its also the point. We are irrational, especially in difficult circumstances. Yes, the film has flaws but I feel the film has gotten better over time as well. I enjoyed the experience of it in theaters but never thought much of it beyond simple entertainment. But there's some depth to it and it's beautifully filmed. SRS used tricks from his earlier work like 'Alien' and 'Blade Runner', giving everything incredible detail with his "Layering" technique. I also love enough the continued use of practical effects. While the situation feels isolated, the film itself still has an epic quality to it by shooting in real locations whenever possible instead of relying on studio sets.

@@mk-ultramags1107 our thoughts exactly - there are people in the movie who serve as caricatures - those in the original alien were also as such. to be honest i prefer prometheus as it isnt as shy about the characters being abstract as alien is - many times in alien it is unclear how the alien is even able to kill people especially in the vent scene, the part with the signal disappearing is unnecessary i think it wouldve been far more terrifying to have the wrong directions given to dallas right from the start and for the aliens whereabouts to have been previously set up, even with some hesitation on his part when he is given a moment before being taken, wasting it - the unknown is frightening but actual horror comes from knowledge. in the thing you know that it doesnt matter who it is because it could be everyone and none of you would know until you found a person. in bodysnatchers you know that even if everyone wasnt converted, those who are still human would have to act exactly like the bodysnatchers regardless to avoid being caught, even those on your side are against you.

I went and watched Prometheus at the cinema on its release and was suitably impressed. Even with the presence of the modern internet with its good/bad/indifferent critiques I wasn't going to miss it. In the weeks following, when I did take notice of the reviews, I was relieved to see many others were mystified by certain actions of the crew which are well known and I won't re-iterate here. All in all I was happy to see Sir Ridley back in the Alien fold and, almost definitely, laying the groundwork for more movies that would follow on. But - and this is a big but (if you'll pardon the phrase) - I was not at all happy with the interpretation given for the identity of the ''Space Jockey''. I know from reading the many comments on the net that I am far from being alone with this viewpoint. Here I have to give some history going back to 1979 and the weeks/months leading up to Alien's release. Please bear with me... Back in 1979 the only news about upcoming films were those given in magazines or, possibly, newspapers IIRC. From those word of mouth also spread. The thing about Alien was nobody knew much about it; pictures were scarce (certainly no give-aways of the monster), the plot seemed thin and everywhere you looked there was just the guarantee that you'd never seen anything like this and it would scare the shit out of you. I always find it hard to impress anyone of a younger generation just how unprepared we were and the level of anticipation. Very few people had heard of H.R.Giger, much less seen his art. I owned a copy of The Necronomicon (I still have it) and had been led to him by articles/artwork in OMNI. I was in my late teens and I remember going to great lengths to ensure neither of my parents came across it. I would no longer be welcome to stay under their roof if they did. And don't make the mistake of thinking there were any paintings relating to Alien in it, this was published well before 1979. Anyway, cut to 1979, sitting in trepidation as that (now infamous and much lauded) title unveils itself to a very creepy set of sound effects. We are introduced slowly to the spaceship Nostromo which wakens the crew. So far, so good, a fair chunk of time has already been taken up. But then, before too long, we see the derelict spaceship (is it a ship? Damn peculiar!) and we start to get the vibe that - maybe - we'd rather be elsewhere. The ship doesn't match our usual expectations. You'll notice that by now I'm totally identifying with the characters, the movie has me. They enter and I'm jumpy. Surely there's something waiting and it's unpleasant. Like a jump scare that's drawn out over 20 seconds we view a monstrosity that seems ossified to its seat, a creature totally alien to us and threatening if only due to its size. Now if the movie had ended at that point I would have been happy. Here was something so far off the beaten track, so ALIEN, that it deserved its existence by that alone. And remember, this is before we meet the face hugger, the chestburster and then the worst monster in film history up to that moment. Scott just kept piling it on. Over the years I've remained a fan and watched all the movies with varying degrees of admiration/disappointment but the question of the identity of the Space Jockey was never clarified. Then Scott said he would do just that. Now consider a quote from Ridley during the making of Alien where he complained that all monsters in SF films before Alien just looked like men in rubber suits (hence the Giger monster) it seems ironic to me that in Prometheus, by turning the Space Jockey into an Engineer wearing a bio-suit, he has both physically and conceptually turned the very first space monster of Alien into just that. I'm sorry but that won't wash. Apparently, in the Alien comic series, there is a race called the Mala'kak who sit above the Engineers in the cosmic hierarchy and who resemble exactly the Space Jockey. Shoehorn them in Ridley and restore my faith. If anyone has made it this far, thank you for reading my memories as a wall of text and I hope you enjoyed them. This is one of those movies that I have grown to love as I saw it more. I got lost in the lore, and the expanded universe. I really liked it, however, I could also see the critics points. The real critics, not the people paid to pander. I could understand where they were coming from, but I loved it none the less. I have a hard time with 10 years. Where does the time go? It feels like it is only a couple of years old.

It's a crime they deleted so many scenes not only filmed but from the script that gave incredibly necessary details from the plot and interactions between characters. It's no wonder much of the interactions feel disjointed when there were supposed to be moments to give context between interactions. Also a big thing people don't like about Prometheus, I'm for the Engineers being humanoid. elephantine humanoid aliens honesty doesn't appeal to me and would likely have looked silly. I understand people have ideas in their mind they've hung onto for decades now... But I think they went the best route. Also, we can consider lines of genetic heritage so it's not even clear if the Engineers we saw are the end of the line or just a link in the chain, maybe they modify their species in many ways in the pursuit of utility and perfection. It's completely possible there are others above them too... and we'll never know now... Ridley Scott cowarded out of delving further into the philosophy and lore by changing tone for Prometheus only giving us tiny glimpses. Lastly, the aliens being made through links of genetic experimentation and accidents is philosophically important. I fucking HATE the idea of xenomorphs being a bug race that just existed... I much prefer the idea of them being nature balancing efforts to tamper with evolution. I even prefer the idea more considering the idea for the original xenomorph. I never liked the idea for the queen. If you consider the weird, unnatural and forced evolution that created the xenomorph... The original xenomorph feels like it makes even more sense as a contrived and unnaturally perfect being.

This film took away the aestetic the first three alien movies had. My brain cannot accept it as cannon or even in the same series. So you're telling me these ships from 2093 look this diffrent from the Nostromo in 2122. I've seen people say oh the nostromo is an old ship or somthing like that, yet somehow in Aliens it's described as A "rather expensive piece of hardware". The lore about engineers was a brilliant idea - It was the first time a big budget movie pushed the 'alien astronaut' concept and themes of panspermia. The wake-up scene of the engineer especially is one of the most chilling and ambient scifi moments Ive ever experienced, absolutely stunning. Combined with subliminal messages of religious rituals, mysterious substances, the dangers of alien bioforms and awesome music makes it a great movie in my eyes aswell.

I remember leaving the theater baffled reading the hate for this. It’s only gotten better for me as the years have gone by. All the critiques about characters doing dumb things felt silly to me when a clear main theme of the film is that humans will do stupid and self destructive things in their quest for knowledge. It’s gorgeous and thought provoking and does significantly more interesting things to expand the universe of Alien than Cameron who just reduced the Xenomorph to a glorified bug. Don’t get me wrong, I love Aliens, but I think It makes things significantly more simplistic.

I had a good experience seeing it on my bday, two days after its release, on June 10th. My friends were shocked by the c section scene. But overall, we liked it. However, I would have liked some of the original ideas that have recently come out regarding this film to be used. The emphasis on AI being the villain and then the progenitor of the Alien in the Prometheus sequel, Covenant, spoiled what could have been something grander.

Visually stunning as you professed and the imagination required to conjure up this story is very admirable. I've only got one major issue with the film, that being the physical activities Shaw performs after her cesarean section. Too unbelievable

To be honest, she keeps expressing physical pain and discomfort up until the last scene and if you watch closely hits herself up several times with the pain killers, even booze. I'm fine with it. I mean she's not jumping around like nothing happened.

I've always enjoyed it. Nothing will ever live up to the ideas you've built up in your head, but this came pretty close. It takes a lot of ideas from the original Alien script that were abandoned, such as the preserved head.

It's definitely a masterpiece. I just like you feel the same about this movie. I liked the fact that it was a humanoid that had a huge part in creating the Alien instead of some weird looking alien creature. A lot of fans hated that.

First movie space big unknown, a chance encounter with a fossilised pilot from across the galaxy who's race we'll never find again and nature scary as the xeno simply evolved as far as we know, like parasitic wasps drifiting in from a bottomless void. I think your original review was spot on and professional. Nice job back then. I recently watched Prometheus again - my Xth time! I loved it when it came out but was admittedly hoping for a more direct connection to be made to the original. With the passing of time I better understand Scott’s vision. This was the long game. Not a one-off, connect-the-dots installment. I love it now more than when it first came out. I encourage everyone to watch the behind the scenes extras. The planning, thought, and world building is impressive!

I really loved this one. It’s gotta rank third for me amongst the series. I liked that it explored some thought provoking ideas and didn’t just try to be a horror movie or just full of kills. I have ran into so many people who act like they absolutely hate this movie. It is a shame really and I guess it comes down to expectations for them. I hadn't realized Prometheus had come to a decade of release. i never saw it in theaters , i got a copy and watched it. i find it a rather amazing film for the scope of ideas explored and the richness of the darkness it puts up on screen. i found that all teardowns of this film were based on it being an Alien prequel and seeing it through those eyes .. if you judge it by a film that's in the Alien universe but not bound by the other alien films , it becomes a very different experience that it should be. I fine look by you sir from a decade of distance.

I said it back then when I saw it in theaters with my brother, and I'll say it now: Promethius was terrible. 1) to maintain suspense, one does not tell the whole backstory of the baddies if the entire premise is Suspense or Horror. The more one knows about the subject, the less suspenseful or horrifying one finds it. 2) it was a "college kids in the woods" slasher film in space. The other films at least stuck to the idea that the characters would behave the way they ought to. First film was Space Truckers. Second film was Space 80s Military. Third was Space Penitent Monk Prisoners. Promethius was Space Scientist who act like slasher flick college kids, they existed only to make terrible choices and die horribly. Even on their way down to the planet: "Hope the atmosphere isn't corrosive or it'll eat the hull." AS THEYRE FLYING INTO SAID ATMO!! You mean to tell me a SCIENCE VESSEL didn't dump probes?! "The air is breathable." *removes helmet* A SCIENTIST broke quarantine, broke every rule in the book for Teh LuLz, on a lark! No thoughts of bacteria, or fungi, or viruses?! This movie was terrible. Terrible.

That scene? My brother and I *laughed*. The audience aren't idiots, just because it's a spectacle doesn't make it good. See: Marvel Movies, like you just talked about. This was a trashy slasher flick, high on its own sense of importance, written and directed by someone far, faaaaaaaar past his prime, poorly acted and utterly, completely contrived. I expect better from this beloved franchise. I *want* to be terrified, not laughing and throwing popcorn down my gullet. This was AvP levels of bad.

10 years already.. tempus really fugits! It was a masterpiece for me from the start and remains up there with my sci fi favourites still. But i can't help wonder why they didn't insert all the sentences of dialogue between the resuscitated engineer and David, just as we read them later on and saw you on your channel as well as many others review the omitted lines from the actual script that were never included in any cut unfortunately. Cause that would've impacted the overall mood of the ending and meaning of that journey we went on with the Prometheus crew in a much more existential way and philosophy that was just not included. There were so many avenues after that which could've been amazingly explored but unfortunately never came to be realized. Covenant was such a disappointment for fans of both Alien and Prometheus. We got loads of biblical references with an Ark , all couples and in an attempt to reseed a new possible homestead through a ship named covenant of all names.. which '79 spoiler : got a distress signal from a nearby planet that they decide to inspect. We all saw and loved that movie before.. it was called *Alien* . If only Ridley could return to this universe which is so rich and open for exploration and questioning more of the historical and philosophical notions. Great post as always. Much respect.

Good video and you make some great points about strengths that Prometheus had, particularly on David. The more I've seen the movie, however, the less I like it. It feels weaker and didn't really hold together or age well. Ancient Alien Marble Men, microwaving the Engineer head, etc, balanced hard against the great David arc, great visuals and ambitious plot. It ended up attempting to be thoughtful but fell well short, killing the real deep space horror of the unknown that the original Alien presented with deeply stupid lines like "100% DNA match" between humans and Engineers. Fassbender's great performance as an android mimicking T.E. Lawrence is primarily what's brought me back to it.

@@Infiny92 No, the 100% DNA match is part of a horror hinted at, but something not realized by the crew. Think again about what you saw, and don't take for granted what Shaw 'chose to believe'. Shaw wanted to see an invitation left by a creator, so that's what she saw. What do you see when you look at the crude stick drawings? Does it seem like an invitation done in a cramped cave by a 9ft extra terrestrial who has faster than light technology? If not, then isn't the alternative explanation obvious? These drawings are a depiction of some of the tribe being shown where they will be taken. That is why the workers in this dangerous isolated lab share DNA with humans. Their ancestors landed on LV 223 as cargo. That's the reason why there is breathable air in the sealed tunnel from the cargo hold to the chamber with the urns. The 'engineers' themselves have been adapted to breathe far more toxic air. Remember, the one who chased Shaw had run across open ground for quite some distance. A normal human would have passed out in seconds and died in under two minutes given the amount of Carbon Monoxide in the atmosphere, but inside the dome the air was as clean as pre industrial earth, just as tribal humans would have been breathing. We've not seen the masters of LV 223 yet, just the slave caste they bred to work in the biolab.

I remember getting really excited for this because the last Alien movie I saw in the theater was Alien Resurrection (which was also at the time the only Alien Movie I saw in theaters.) I never have (and still to this day) watched any of the AVP movies, I didn't want to. I didn't see it opening night, I saw it a couple of weeks after. My girlfriend at the time and I saw it, I loved it, and like you, I was pretty perplexed why people pissed on this movie so much. I recall a Cracked article that tore it apart, but I don't remember the details. Didn't matter though, bought it on Blu-Ray as soon as it came out. Funny enough I hadn't watch the movie in a good 2 years, but last week got a wild hair up my butt and decided to dust off the Blu-Ray and enjoy it. I clenched my stomach when I saw Dr. Shaw rip the umbilical cord out of her, no matter how many times I see that movie, that particular seen can be hard to watch. Still a great movie, and an excellent presentation, I really enjoy your channel! Keep up the great work!

I personally really enjoyed this movie. When I went to go see it in the theater I had no idea it was related to alien in any way I just pick a random movie that had a cool poster. I was super excited as the movie went on to find that it was related. At that time I wasn’t a huge alien fan but this movie cased me to go back and rewatch the original which was the only one I’d ever seen and then I watched the sequels. Thanks to Prometheus I got into the world of alien and it has become one of my favorite sci-fi series. While I don’t think Prometheus holds a candle to the first two films it has its place and I think the series is better for having it exist.

I saw it again at a screening a couple years later and it is a gorgeous looking movie and the score is so evocative. Me and a pal still quote David quoting Lawrence of Arabia! I guess my only real beef is that we never got another movie with Noomi Rapace in it (not alive anyway).

I was disappointed. I desperately wanted to love this movie. It's a beautiful movie, great cinematography, amazing effects. The philosophical questions were interesting. But the characters were so stupid, the writing was too full of itself, too many plot holes, and I hated that the space jockeys were basically human so we could have a stupid chariot of the gods thing. It felt so unimaginative, so uninspired. The story I thought I deduced from this biomechanical space jockey with no legs was far, far more interesting and alien than.... Space Jesus. The alien creature felt real and alien. The engineers didn't. Alien³'s killing off my favorite characters made me mad. Prometheus didn't make me mad, just disappointed. I don't mean to attack a movie anyone enjoys. If you love it, good far you. But for me it was very disappointing. I hope we can acknowledge its faults as well as its strengths.

There is little to link it to Aliens beside the deacon scene that never really went anywhere and is flat out ignored in Alien Covenant. Prometheus does not link up with Alien and creates more plot holes and questions than answers. The comic books that expanded upon it did far better jobs with the lore.

Love to hear your love for Prometheus. Even the Perfect Organism podcast guys don’t seem to like it much. My parents weren’t into the films, I didn’t have an older sibling, and none of my friends growing up were into the Alien films, so my first interaction with the world was accompanying a friend to see AVP and then later AVPR. They didn’t give me any real interest in the Alien, so I never went out of my way to see the old films. It wasn’t until seeing Prometheus in theatres that I fell in love and went back to watch the original films. I’ve come to a place where I don’t really care for any of the films Ridley Scott didn’t direct. Thanks for all your nerdy passion for the alien world!

Just like in the original Alien btw. The real antagonist was Ash all along. Nothing would happen in the movie without Ash pulling the strings all the way which makes the movie so effective and subversive. Seems like you missed that,

@@fenwar9060 Prometheus didn't have that „experimenting on humans“ and "bastard love child" part in it tho. Ash clearly wants the crew to be infected too. In both Alien and Prometheus the Xenomorph is a biological weapon not a space bug and both movies real antagonist is the synthetic / replicant. Scott was 100% true to his formula in Prometheus. In fact you could say Prometheus was an improvement because characters weren't just dragged along like in Alien but they had actual agency in Prometheus.

THAT is the point. How does that fly over everynbodies head after a decade? One of the main points in prometheus is that the power to create comes with he price of the creation having the potential to become dangerous and hostile towards its creator(s)

So very happy you did this!!!! This film is my scifi fave for all these years now. I'm totally mystified more folks don't love it as much we do. The Engineers were so incredibly fascinating! I wish there was a director's cut where we could hear the full conversation between them all at the end. So much was cut! I hope Scott agrees to return to the Engineers again as I want to learn so much more about them! Noomi Rapace was so wonderful in this film! I loved her character and imagined her exploring the Engineer homeworld with David and finding the answers she was seeking, but alas Covenant went an entirely different direction which quite disappointed me. :( I, too, bought the soundtrack afterwards and still play it to this day! Most definitely should have at least received an Oscar nomination. I have watched this film so many times now I've lost track. I never tire of it. Much better than it's sequel Covenant, IMHO. I guess we'll never get that final prequel trilogy entry of Awakening. So sad and disheartening. :(

And this is where opinions differ greatly. I find the spacejockeys and the mystery around them much more interesting then having some musclebound Kratoses creating us for no reason and want to kill us for no reason. The premise of the movie is BS of the highest order and these are the dumbest "scientists" in the whole galaxy. Calling this a stupid b-movie is a big understatement and no mental gymnastics will make anyone with 2 brain cells to rub together believe that this is a well thought out movie because it isn't. I throws in philosophical questions to sound deep but because it doesn't really explore those it remains shallow as a puddle. I'm dismayed that they threw away the totally alien spacejockeys for bodybuilders in biomechanical space suits.

Big letdown and yet I still went back for Covenant and was bummed out even more. I just want a great Alien movie to watch in the Cinema god dammit.

I loved this movie, when I first saw it back in 2012 it blew my mind, it reinvigorated my love for the Alien series, I’ve been a fan since I was a lil kid. It was the first Alien related movie I saw in the Theaters and I can still remember the hype I felt when I first saw the trailer, even saw Alien Covenant a few years after, I still have it on DVD, such great memories and such a great film despite the criticisms
