While James Cameron's Aliens left it to the imagination, the 2014 novel, Alien: River of Pain, details events that occurred inside the mysterious vessel explored by Russ and Anne Jordan. This video explores excerpts from the novel and the possible reason for the eggs on board.

For all we know the ship is opaque to radar...youre right, nobody spends so much money and time on a fusion powered atmospheric processor just to set it up blind, and I don't think they would just plop it down randomly, it would be built on specially selected and prepared land; they would fer sure AT LEAST radar map AT LEAST whatever side of the planet it's on, but if radar mapping didn't find anything, why keep looking? Maybe they have a computer doing the mapping and geographic surveys, and the human or computer looking just doesn't recognize the ship as a ship, and thinks, hmm , more probable it's just a funky rock formation, there's no way it's a space ship, and mark and label it as such

Pretty depressing that they got facehugged pretty much only because they wanted an easier life for themselves and their kids. But then again I wouldn’t be comfortable leaving my kids outside a crashed alien ship on a partially “terraformed” planet that only had a small colony we had driven miles away from while I went and looked around inside. Especially considering they would have no idea how stable the ship would be, aside from the obvious threat that ended up getting them.

*THANK YOU* for breeding new life into Aliens for me. This was beautifully read with a great selection of imagery from the Alien universe and I really got an immersive sense of what happened. The fact that they found so much more than Dallas and his crew does seem a little unlikely but could be because they were more inquisitive and greedy for getting rich, but I'm happy that this ties in with the new Alien films with the bio-engineers and makes it all come together nicely.

I know your comment is at least 2 years old, I still feel the need to answer you ;) . They find out much more because the Nostromos was not a Science Ship and thus not equiped at all for studying Alien life and Ash was the only "Scientist". Meanwhile, Hadley's Hope was specifically built (in secret) by the Company to study whatever Alien Life in on the Moon, was thus equiped to handle it and had very capable (and of course extremely ruthless) COmpany Scientists ready and just waiting for the eventual Alien find. Also, Aliens is set somewhat 50 years after the first Movie and thus at least somewhat more technological advanced. It's also implied that by that point Humanity already did make contact with Alien Species, though it is never made clear with what Species and whether these were intelligent and not. Thus the Scientists had some form of theoretical Experience dealing with Alien Life.

That single image of the giant chamber full of eggs, and how it looks like it goes on for hundreds of feet, if not miles of tunnels. That has always stuck in my head. I really remain convinced that David is RE-creating the species. I believe that the Acheron crash really did happen sometime long ago, and that the aliens that were on board were created by the Engineers (I know that some fans are disturbed by David as being the creator of the Aliens ... and then having an ancient crash site on Acheron ... but I as of yet don't see a conflict here). My speculation is that the final chapter will show David either trying to recreate the queen, or being successful and then stopped by either humans or engineers or perhaps both. Great reading! And my own commentary and summaries are included. I'd still consider this fair use and above all, practically a free advertisement for the book and/or audio drama and not an infringement....reading chapters word-for-word wouldn't be cool of me. I seen this many times over and I still get the major creeps out of it !!! I would like to thank you for your portraying just what could of happened when newt's parents gone in that derelict space craft, just the findings alone would have had me racing for that cracked opening in the side of that ship !!! When they came upon the queen and the engineer had me frozen in place !!! What a great short look at what the parents found, and of course the sad part of the husband getting face hugged by that alien. Thanks again.

There's a problem here. There were not eggs in the Space Jockey's chamber. The eggs were contained in a seperate chamber, far below the Space Jockey's chamber, which the Nostromo crew had to use a winch to access and there was never any sign of hive structures in the SJ Chamber either. The rest of this is fine up till that point, since the Nostromo crew entered the Boneship at a different point and could easily have passed through sections that bypassed the stuff the Jordans encountered, but as a cinaphile and anal-retentive continuity fan, this part rustles my jimmies something terrible.

Q2. IF Anne was within the chamber with Russ : Why didn't multiple eggs open in their presence ?? (As eggs do in Alien Resurrection's "ambush" scene)

I never liked the explanation of the derelict’s origin from Prometheus. I always thought of the derelict ship as being a biomechanical “living ship”, much like Moya from Farscape. And the dead pilot inside with the ruptured chest I always thought of as a symbiotic creature that grows inside the ship (much like what Dallas pointed out) and operates the living ship. Sort of like Moya’s pilot in Farscape. It’s more consistent with what H.R. Giger’s designs were supposed to suggest.

Never thought about a queen in the derelict on LV426, but it fits. Prometheus gave us a good look at the immense size of these ships and their separated chambers. Loved the mix of what appear to be video game clips with other vid and pics, the whole presentation is superb. Haven't read that book, makes me wonder how a queen and hive can die out like that... I haven't spent any time online looking at Alien stuff like this since the 90's when the Alien Ring connecting multiple Alien related websites, was a thing. We were happy to get some pics and maybe download some short video and audio clips on a 14.4 modem (I still have them all). Times have changed. Brilliant! I think your channel is larger then the Alien Ring, this might take me a while...

"Bones are bent outward...like it exploded from the inside", said Dallas. I always wondered what happened to whatever burst out of the 'space jockey; and was it still at large somewhere on the ship or planet...?Very creepy. Even the newborn version would have been huge. Also wondered what the rest of the derelict might look like or contain. Even in the first film, it was disorientating and kind of paradoxical. I like/interpret and enjoyed Prometheus and Alien Covenant as independent sci-fi horror films--with 'cameos' from the xenomorph--taking place on a different timeline/history where the Nostromo and her crew never existed. If there ever is another movie it would be a mistake imo to try and connect it to the classic 1979 Alien. There is no need--the original alien and the derelict in the 1979 movie should always be kept as a separate horror mystery, where the Lovecraftian thing in the chair (16.30) is NOT a giant guy in a suit.

Your narration as always is absolutely wonderful, and breathtaking. I found myself at the edge of my seat listening to your description of this narrative. One immediate question I had while listening was, if in fact these Xenomorphs did Spawn from the engineers wouldn't they be larger than them? Also, I'm still a bit too reluctannt to accept David's creation or evolution of the Xenomorphs. I have a hard time accepting the fact that a good portion of this franchise stems from some sociopathic synthetic person gone wrong. But I still do enjoy the idea from Prometheus that this ship was intended to go to Earth. I also would love if you would go deeper if you haven't already, into what happened to Newts Family Once the infection or outbreak started at Hadley's hope.

Having grown up in the 80s and 90s, and like other horror film franchises, these films (Alien, Aliens, and Alien 3) terrified me as a kid. Unlike those other franchises, the Alien universe is still terrifying as an adult. Perhaps not exactly like the Xenomorphs in the Alien universe, there could still be some kinds of parasitic species out there. Seems like something we could plausibly expect to find somewhere out there as we explore the universe. That is a scary thought.

I believe it's possible the engineers or David used a queen xenomorph to have all the eggs laid inside the Derelict. From this story it sounds like the queen ended up getting loose and there was a battle between the engineers and the xenos before the crash occurred. I'm not a big fan of Ridley Scotts prequel films, but I am interested to see if some of the xenos in this story were spawned from the crew of Covenant. It's hard to say how things will play out in Scotts last film, but I know I'll probably end up watching it.
