@@DepravedCoTApologist I don't fault them for that. The network heads decide what does and doesn't get covered, and the time limits for segments make it really hard to go into the depth that Brett does. Networks aren't stupid; they know that these types of detailed breakdowns of film don't hook in most audiences (technical breakdowns of details tend to put people to sleep, even if it's a topic many viewers may show some degree of interest in), so they stick to narratives.

The emphasis on scheme would also explain the huge (subjective, at least) improvements in Gilmore's play in the last two years. Pats D in 2017 (especially) and last year up until the playoffs always seemed vulnerable to giving up big plays -remember Gilmore's first game as a Pat against the Chiefs in 2017? Alex Smith looked like Peyton Manning that day, and Gilmore got burned several times. His personal talent was there, but the scheme hadn't adapted to give him that safety support yet. This is the first year I've seen people talk about Gilmore as a "shutdown" corner- he's always been really good, but you don't suddenly make huge improvements in your play at age 29 unless the scheme around you improves- and when that breaks down, you're back to where you started.

Gilmore in 2017 was getting use to the defensive scheme they ran a lot of zone then but since then they play more man and that’s why Gilmore’s play has been much better same with Marcus Peters he was great in KC running zone he gave up a lot of plays with the rams because they ran more man now in Baltimore Peter’s side is zone more often than the opposite side so he looks great again but he had his moments giving up big plays in Baltimore also

LETS just say it wasn't a bold move to place him at one of the MIKE spots Only ones I can say who balled out this pas season on the defensive side was Chandler Jones, Jordan Hicks, and Budda Baker... Pat Pete didn't find his groove back till the browns game which was too late and sucks he got suspended early in the season but hey s--t happens ... x(

Excellent analysis. I remember during the Texans game the Patriots were initially playing a lot more zone coverage at first, probably because Belichick was worried about getting burned by the Texans speed and talent at receiver. The Texans were taking advantage of the soft coverage and the Patriots defense looked unimpressive. Then when the Patriots became more aggressive they got burned as well. I'm looking forward to the Wildcard game because I think the Titans power run game is gonna be a big problem for New England.

We will see. Brady is always better in the playoffs. Tbh, if they can't get him some more help at offensive tackle and get him a TE, I don't think the Pats will win another ring. With that said, we will see how the Pat's offense does in the playoffs. Defense wins championships. If the Pats can just sustain some drives, I think they will be in good shape. They just gotta convert 3rd downs and keep their D fresh for the quarter that matters(4th).

You don't magically just get better. There has to be something to build on for that to happen. The Bills game showed they could get it done if the run game shows up, but it has been very inconsistent. That running game is key, and i don't see it being consistent enough for them.

@@piperar2014 The only issue with what your saying is according to sources close to the NFL there's no evidence tying the Patriots this alleged "cheating." The individuals weren't filming the Bengals sideline to gain an unfair competitive advantage, they were filming the Bengals sideline for the purposes of using the footage for a "do your job" documentary. See the notion from sports fans like yourself; the Patriots are such cheaters and the only reason they win is because they cheat" is such bullshit. Stop attempting to validate hatred towards an organization for it's consistent success over the last 20 years with falsehoods.

Al Capone was never convicted of bootlegging or conspiracy to commit murder, but that doesn't mean Capone didn't do those things. Interesting that this incident involved the Patriots and not one of the other 31 teams. Maybe it was nothing, maybe it was a successful cover-up.

Thanks for the video. In McCourty's defense, NE was bringing pressure (6 guys), so it's not often a team has time to run a double move over the top when that's coming. Josh Allen made one of the top 5 throws of the year before Brown had even come out of his 2nd break, and with a guy unblocked in his face.. It was an unbelievable execution by Buffalo. Should McCourty have shaded over the top more, probably? But how many QBs can throw a guy open with a defender in his face, in stride 43 yards flat-footed, before a WR is out of his break on a regular basis? Allen and Mahomes may be the only two guys who'd be able to pull that off. I think NE takes educated risks, and their aggression pays big dividends; in this case someone made a heck of a play.

Crazy? A lot of people who saw them lose yesterday to the Dolphins didn't think it was crazy. There offense has gone WAY down this season. The O-line lost their right tackle to be replaced by someone like Marshall Newhouse and the starting center is gone, not to mention the receivers can't create separation. Pat fans better pray the defense and special teams make some huge plays that game.

Brett, a few things: - Haven’t seen the MIA-NE game, but did Parker and the MIA OC take advantage of these tells? It seems like it was only Brown and Parker who put up great days against Gilmore - Is this Belicheck “giving” tells knowing they gave up big points/plays against Texans and Chiefs (if they won and secured the #2 seed) or against a Bulls side who they’ve played two close matches with similar defensive games that way they can completely change their defensive scheme? - Following in from that thinking, we all saw it last Super Bowl where they played single-high safety in the first half only to play almost predominantly Cover 4 in the 2nd half; is this the Patriots playing a defensive scheme that will get them to the playoffs just to go back to their usual MO of being able to play any defensive scheme needed due to their flexibility of their players?
