What if the toughest barrier between us and our needs is that we don’t ask for help fulfilling them? Sociologist Wayne Baker offers insight into the concept of generalized reciprocity or “paying it forward.”
Dr. Wayne Baker's teaching and research focuses on positive organizational scholarship, values, and social networks. Prior to joining the Michigan faculty, he was on the faculty at the University of Chicago business school. He earned his Ph.D. in sociology from Northwestern University and was a post-doctoral research fellow at Harvard University. He was the first director of the Center for Positive Organizations at the Ross School and recently completed a three-year term as chair of his department.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx

What a curious notion. As an habitual unbided giver and helper I have found that I am largely unwilling to become involved when a request is made except those on a personal level. Examples of requests I'm thinking of is charity and disaster drives and all manner of "tragedy has befallen me or my loved one" websites that have sprung up in recent years. I'm not sure why I'm disinclined in those situations but I think it might be a general view I have that such can and should be part of a response from an ordered society meeting all needs without favour rather than needing tearjerking PR machines to publicise plights. I also feel I might be unwilling to respond to requests of the form outlined in the vids examples because of a (likely jaundiced) notion that the ones who do ask for help are simply seeking to gain at the expense of others generosity rather than having a need they cannot satisfy themselves.

Has the app since been developed & deployed? If so what’s it called & is it available for iOS in the  App Store?

Is it compatible with Android? My wife and I don't use Apple but would love something like this.
