Good deal- I think there are stories like this everywhere and I appreciate the obscurity of it. It’s refreshing to hear about something that not every other channel has covered, although I’d still watch you guys cover pretty much anything.

The more those who enjoy the niche interact with it, the more views the videos will get in the long run. The long game is known as such for a reason, niche historical topics be it local or international (hopefully one day) will be a staple of this channel for as long as we keep making content.

It was public pressure that saved this house, and nothing to do with the council, they had already smashed a big gap through the Roman wall to construct Western Way. To fit this house in on the end, they actually demolished a house that was older.

Surprised you didn't mention the old city wall that's right next to it. I wonder if that also factored into their choice of location, to make it feel even more historical.
@DecadesVideos
@DecadesVideos Жыл бұрын
I think it was entirely the fact a tudor styled house was present at this site a few decades prior however it was demolished. However, Exeter is full of history, so theoretically it could be anywhere in the heart of the city and be right next to something ancient.

@@DecadesVideos Well aware of the history, I'm a local too. Spent my lunch breaks at college getting a brew from MacGahey's and a hot dog from that red cart in the shadow of Rougemont Castle. Where I live right now I actually reckon if I gave it enough welly I could hit both the house that moved and old exe bridge with a half decent punt on a football, if buildings weren't in the way aha

Never have I cared about Exeter more. Consider if you will, Ethan and Connor, some utterly bonkers mystery history. Like where's Cleopatra's tomb? Who is in the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier under the Arc De Triomphe? Perhaps tackle some esoteric BS like if Atlantis is Real (why or why not? Start a riot in your comments, disenfranchise half your viewer base overnight! It'll be fun!) But my honest-to-god dream episode is the two of you tackling the topic of historical hucksters. Actual conmen, and not the fictional cowboy ones (although it's safe to say we're all very fond of those as well.) Tell us your favorite cons of history.
@DecadesVideos

We'll get around to the mystery stuff, before we do we're just perfecting the craft ;) Everything being said, we want to root our content in actual history as much as possible. Folklore and legends will play a part in that but making them primary focuses isn't on our agenda yet.
@curiouslyhigh
@curiouslyhigh Жыл бұрын
@@DecadesVideos Terrifyingly, the history of the myth of Atlantis is a trainwreck of a rabbit hole, but it's great that you're sticking with the facts. Hi-five for you, gents! (That's a high two and a half for each of you)

@@DecadesVideos Wow! Well no, now they get a five each and the hosts still both get two and a half. Edit to add: You know, now that I think about it, Ethan said the upstairs is fully furnished; does that mean they put newer plumbing and what into it after they moved it? Doesn't that screw with the preservation of historical... cultural... whatever? Literally, they moved a house 70m, to take the place of another house that was there, crying Cultural and Historical Significance, then modernised the internals? I'm laughing because that's genuinely the most ridiculous thing ever.
@DecadesVideos

@@curiouslyhigh I wouldn't be able to answer your question as I didn't go inside the house to ask. Considering there is a functional shop on the ground floor I'll answer yes for logic in a digitalised world. Adding electricity to a listed building isn't uncommon. Well preserved castles for example will have lighting installed.
