An art historian! Of course! How wonderful! I love the question of first fountain pen use. Mine was of a Pelikan gifted me in Germany during my father's tour of duty there in 1970. Returning to America that year, I had no idea of anything to do with proprietary cartridges.... I still hope that the pen will show up in the stuff my parents held onto for me, but, gosh, half a century? Probably not. So, collecting with abandon!

my gateway pen was a Pilot Metropolitan. On my desk as I write this I have a Pilot 78g+with a B calligraphy nib. I have used a Platinum desk pen for drawing with Platinum Carbon black ink cartridges. Excellent for using with water colour.
