The shift in that conversation with Sofia’s cousin was because she was a serial killer who killed women. The mom was basically saying she’s scared that Sofia might hurt her daughter. So Sofia played into that fear.

Also Luca later on said the exact same thing about going away to Lake Como in Italy. I get the feeling he asked the cousin to go over to Sofia to say hi and get her out of town. The cousin could only keep it together as long as it was one on one but once her daughter got involved then she got serious.

I am wondering if she actually was the killer. She is clearly a psycho either way, but I think its possible they could shake things up and do their own twist like maybe Alberto was the real hangman(influenced by his father who had a thing for strangling women it seems) and Sophia was forced to cover for him since he was to be Carmine's successor.

Important details: the “Hangman” was indicted and convicted on homicide charges committed by strangulation (though they may or may not use that interchangeably with “throttling”); the audience has only been shown her to 1. default to a firearm, 2. *rationally* prioritize and strategically address the threat to the Falcone line of succession, 3. allege that Arkham rehabilitated her Seeing as Arkham particularly in this universe demonstrates little success in rehabilitation and the sum total of her behavior is at most inconclusive of a serial murderer, she may have been pinned for the homicides possibly to protect Carmine (a known throttler) or Alberto 🤷‍♂️ … still speculative, but we’ve only been informed of the convictions and the sentence and not the actual crimes, and while Sofia is clearly disturbed, her behavior isn’t necessarily conclusive of a serial murderer of young women

the scene with sophia and the cousin was implying that Lucas put her up to suggesting a girls trip to italy to get rid of her since Lucas also suggested that sophia take a trip to italy before they started thier meeting and pushed her out in a way. I think the cousin put on a brave face to go talk to Sophia until her daughter showed up then she got scared for her daughter.

You know it's good writing when they don't beat you over the head with it. There's some very subtle shit going on in the conversation with Carla that you can't really piece together until later in the episode. She starts off very friendly and cordial with Sofia, reminiscing about vacationing in Italy, then even mentions they should take a girl's trip there. You think it's nice to see someone treating Sofia like a person and not being afraid of her...until Carla's daughter walks up. The tone shifts because the kindness was a facade, now that Carla's kid is "in danger", the mask slips. Later in the episode we find out why she was even trying to be nice when Luca mentions the same Italian trip as a way to get rid of Sofia...so clearly Carla was sent to pitch it as more of a vacation than a banishment.

Luca says she can sniff out BS and she caught the moment that Carla dropped the mask when her daughter came up. She then plays up the "Hangman" persona much like she does earlier on when eating with her hands. It is really good writing and acting. Even the subtle protective arm movement the Mom makes is really good.

Sofia's cousin was put up to saying the Lake Como thing by her father Luca to persuade Sofia to get out of the picture, presumably, since he brings it up again later on. Sofia CLOCKS that her cousin is not actually there to be friendly with her when she immediately goes into defense mode for her daughter. Sofia sees that her cousin is scared and that it was bullshit and decides to tug on that fear. Sofia's suspicions that they're trying to push her out are confirmed when Luca mentions Lake Como, and she plays that moment like she accepts the "vacation."

The thing with Sofia's cousin is, Sofia has spent her entire post-Arkham time being treated like a dangerous psycho. So her cousin being super friendly with her probably meant a lot, until she reacted to Sofia getting anywhere near her daughter, showing that even her "friends" don't trust her. That's why she switches straight back to threatening mode; because her feelings got hurt.

No. Luca told his daughter Luca to suggest the girl's trip, to get her out of the way. Luca mentioned the same place to Sofia later in the episode. No way Carla would actually want to go on a trip with her.

When Oz tells Sofia "No, I owe you." He means it in that moment, and is not about Alfredo. Sofia wakes up choking, and her father liked to slowly choke women to death. We know he killed Selina's mother and her roommate that exact way, and tried to do the game thing to Selina. And in the dream Alfredo promises he'll get her out of there someday. I'm almost certain that Oz protected Carmine at the expense of Sofia, and I'm not certain Sofia choked all those women. I think it was Carmine. That's why Oz owes her, and that's why he offered genuine emotional support at the funeral.

I think the scene with the cousin is that she came up to Sofia putting up appearances of being cool with her because everyone knows she just got out of Arkham and is on edge around her, but the facade broke when the kid showed up and the reality is that she is scared of Sophia, and didn't want to have a serial killer touch her daughter. So that whole being nice thing was fake. That's when Sofia made it clear that she's not her friend.

Carla is her cousin, daughter of Luca. It's implied Luca told Carla to tell Sofia to go to Italy. Just like Luca said the same thing to Sofia later. Saying she's her cousin is just for us the audience to tie the scenes together. Carla didn't expect or want Gia to run up. But it shows there's some reason Sofia killed 7 women. That we know of.

It was kind of alluded that Carla was Luca's daughter, and she was instructed by Luca to talk Sofia into a foreign trip and therefore sidelining Sofia'a disruptive influences. Later on, Luca himself even tried to suggest such a trip. Also, the image of Luca being a push over may be intentionally exaggerated by Oz, because he wants chaos in Gotham's underworld, and it helps him by making the rival gang to believe the Falcones are under weak leadership.

When Sofia bent down towards the cousins daughter the cousin pulled her closer to her, maybe so Sofia wouldn't get too close, which Sofia noticed and maybe triggered her in some way. 🤷🏾‍♂️
