The penguin is not a trickster like joker, not as smart as riddler and not a strong as bane. In fact he’s not exceptionally good at any physical traits, he’s just an extremely desperate monster that will do anything to get to the top leaving a trail of bodies of friends, family and innocents. A rat, snake, scum he’s just all the most terrible traits in one man that everyone underestimated.

Francis's tear absolutely should NOT be taken either way, and in no circumstance should you assume she got what she wanted. Several episodes prior she straight up told Oz to kill her if she lost her mind completely. She was deathly adraid of being trapped comatose, which is what happened to her. Oz responded to her request with complete denial, so of course he ignores what she wanted and selfishly keeps her alive at the end. That's what makes her tear so tragic, she's in a state of constant torture

I really love the show and how it reinforced that Penguin is not at all a misunderstood character. He's a vile monster. The only thing I would say didn't work for me is the character of Dr Julian Rush played by Theo Rossi. I didn't feel like the character was ultimately terribly necessary and often felt like he was there for the sake of being there. Also I think this might be a me thing, but I personally was actually hoping that Sofia would actually die in the end. That's because I'm honestly extremely exhausted of the Falcone family constantly being adapted in Batman media as opposed to actual Batman characters. The Falcones were always in the comics just a generic crime family from the olden days of Gotham that were there to show Batman transition from fighting regular gangsters to actual supervillains and yet we keep revisiting them. To me they are just placeholders for the real villains.

True but then again, that was the point. When he faces off against The Batman in the next film, the audience won't have any divided loyalties.
@UbinTimor2 күн бұрын
Oz taking the money in Vic's wallet serves a greater purpose than him just taking back petty cash. Killing someone and emptying the contents of their wallet has been a trick that killers use in order to dissuade police investigations into homicides. It tricks the police into believing that a dead body that was found was a simple case of a robbery gone sideways causing them to devote less resources into finding the killer. The case has even less of a chance of staying open when the victim is colored and more so for a person in Vic's position: A low income high school drop out with no immediate family displaced by a disaster with no permanent address and no identification would immediately be labeled as a victim of "gang violence" in any police investigation- especially in a city like Gotham. Given that the Gotham PD is also in line with crime families, it's safe to say that they wouldn't even lift a finger to investigate especially when it could expose any sort of corruption. Gotham PD would slap the "John Doe" label on Vic, label his death as gang related, and use his empty wallet as justification to close the case as fast as possible as to not "waste any more of police's precious time." There are so many cases out there where this has happened especially when the police department is so incompetent that they even become a suspect in the victim's case when their family used their own resources to hire private investigators and get reports from secondary sources such as autopsies that contradict and sometimes expose cover-ups in police investigations.

Part of the reason why Oswald managed to fool a lot of people, in-universe and the audience, is the fact that he is largely lying to himself. Everything he ever said about his brothers, Vic, his mom, wanting to get back at the rich and powerful, and wanting lower class people to be treated like equals by the upper echelons of Gotham, he genuinely believed.....but he's in denial about himself. Every person he ever killed, whether they were just a gang member or mobster or social elite, it wasn't about anything as noble as he sold it as. It was all about control, and him getting back at anyone who ever disrespected him. And it's why this show is so fantastic, and why Oz is such an interesting villain protagonist.

It’s obvious that he’s Zasz. The reason why vic's death was the tipping point for a lot of people (as opposed to the other cutthroat/ backstabbing moments the penguin did) was he was kind of the stand in for the viewer. To me that actually works. Not like she is going to get exposed to chemicals and be able to shapeshift but the way she can "transform:" to be anyone someone else wants. We shall see. I did hear talks about possible solo series with another villain as well. The Joker's name came up. How true that is...may find out soon. Thanks for vid.

I don't think Sofia is close to Penguin. She only killed people that hurt her. Penguin killed her brothers because he wanted his mom to himself. That's a monster.
@JohnnyJustice777Сағат бұрын
Another thing to note is that, Sofia is a lot more emotional. She thought the therapy session would break Oz, but she underestimated how delusional he could be. If she had killed his mom, maybe she would have broken him. But since she was shown to sympatise with victims, she wouldn't have killed her. And that's why Oz is stronger. He can shift loyalties at the drop of a hat. Hell, i can imagine him kidnapping and forcing Eve to act as his mother all the time, if his mother was killed by Sofia

The Penguin is kind of like Homelander, both want love and praise, but don’t know how to reciprocate it and just sort of leach it off others for their own gratification

Spoiler: Sophia was having the time of her life erasing her families legacy
@chrvaloandkids43902 күн бұрын
I disagree with you guys on Sophia. I think Sophia was the tragic person we thought Oz was. We thought that there was some type of background or backstory that made Oz become what he is but he's just who he is all on his own. Sophia was a good person who watched her mother swinging from a ceiling, finding out her father killed her mother then having her father betray her and essentially losing her mind. She had the backstory that shows why she is what she is. And this is a little off the subject but damn there is something that is so sexy to me about her
@michaelstrong53832 күн бұрын
While I didn't condone all the stuff Sophia did throughout the series, I completely sympathized and understood why she did what she had to do. Also, I agree that Cristin Milioti is pretty cute. I've been a fan of her since How I Met Your Mother, and I'm glad she's rightfully praised for her performance here.

She still committed an act of terrorism by destroying a whole city block
@NoSyrupLeft2 күн бұрын
@@Tre.Anthony2025-g4z yeah she also blew a teenagers head off with no remorse. She is much more sympathetic than Oz and you could argue she is a product of her environment but she still does evil stuff. Oz is just a demon and has been since he was a kid.

@weirddeck41932 күн бұрын
See that last sentence tells me all I need to know, and while I do agree with that I can’t agree with her being tragic. I should say I don’t find her life tragic after she’s sent to Arkham. She killed multiple people who didn’t deserve it, she made her niece Gia an orphan in Gotham city, and she blew up a city block.

Off the back, this series earned its Replay Value. Some episodes delineated speculative and/or unanswered questions in previous episodes. Those revelations in those final minutes with Sophia, Eve and Francis are poetic tragedies.

Gotham: Where’s Batman?! Batman: People, I literally spent the last few weeks trying to track down a serial killer and stopping his overly complicated plot that involved the city getting flooded. I don’t have the time or energy for this Crime Family drama.

Bro there's a literal gang war in the streets of Gotham. Multiple mob related hits and shootouts. Three crime bosses were killed within weeks of each other. And entire crime family dead from a suspicious gas leak.There's a new drug on the street. Yeah these are things that could use a little attention from batman. I mean a drug lab exploded in the middle of the city and opened up a giant sinkhole ffs. Wasn't batman beating street thugs half to death in the subway in The Batman??
@elijaharvinger11782 күн бұрын
There's a completely new drug on the street and crime bosses are dropping left and right. 🔫 fights between crews and a drug lab exploded leaving a giant sinkhole in the middle of the city. I'd say for a guy who was beating up common street thugs in The Batman his presence is sorely missed.

Years from now, wherever the Batman franchise is, it would be funny if they bring back this kid actor to reprise his role. Maybe not exactly this current iteration of the character but just a new version.

My only thing with Batman in the show, I'm fin with him not showing up. He could be doing other stuff, its a lot of mob in fighting and we can easily explain it in Part II. But the criminals should talk about him more. Not constantly but they are career criminals doing crimes and there's a guy in a bulletproof batsuit and jet propelled car, jumping out of the shadows to beat up criminals. He would come up
