@Linklex7Ай бұрын
People forget there’s a reason why Penguin is still considered one of the big 4 Batman villains (Joker, Penguin, Catwoman, and Riddler), at least to casual fans. Just cause Penguin isn’t crazy like the joker or have these insane mass murder schemes like Ra’ Al Ghul doesn’t mean he ain’t a threat or evil. Penguin mostly deals with regular crime, and regular crime is still devastating to its victims.

Francis's tear absolutely should NOT be taken either way, and in no circumstance should you assume she got what she wanted. Several episodes prior she straight up told Oz to kill her if she lost her mind completely. She was deathly adraid of being trapped comatose, which is what happened to her. Oz responded to her request with complete denial, so of course he ignores what she wanted and selfishly keeps her alive at the end. That's what makes her tear so tragic, she's in a state of constant torture

@Philbert-s2cАй бұрын
True but then again, that was the point. When he faces off against The Batman in the next film, the audience won't have any divided loyalties.
@UbinTimorАй бұрын
Oz taking the money in Vic's wallet serves a greater purpose than him just taking back petty cash. Killing someone and emptying the contents of their wallet has been a trick that killers use in order to dissuade police investigations into homicides. It tricks the police into believing that a dead body that was found was a simple case of a robbery gone sideways causing them to devote less resources into finding the killer. The case has even less of a chance of staying open when the victim is colored and more so for a person in Vic's position: A low income high school drop out with no immediate family displaced by a disaster with no permanent address and no identification would immediately be labeled as a victim of "gang violence" in any police investigation- especially in a city like Gotham. Given that the Gotham PD is also in line with crime families, it's safe to say that they wouldn't even lift a finger to investigate especially when it could expose any sort of corruption. Gotham PD would slap the "John Doe" label on Vic, label his death as gang related, and use his empty wallet as justification to close the case as fast as possible as to not "waste any more of police's precious time." There are so many cases out there where this has happened especially when the police department is so incompetent that they even become a suspect in the victim's case when their family used their own resources to hire private investigators and get reports from secondary sources such as autopsies that contradict and sometimes expose cover-ups in police investigations.

I really love the show and how it reinforced that Penguin is not at all a misunderstood character. He's a vile monster. The only thing I would say didn't work for me is the character of Dr Julian Rush played by Theo Rossi. I didn't feel like the character was ultimately terribly necessary and often felt like he was there for the sake of being there. Also I think this might be a me thing, but I personally was actually hoping that Sofia would actually die in the end. That's because I'm honestly extremely exhausted of the Falcone family constantly being adapted in Batman media as opposed to actual Batman characters. The Falcones were always in the comics just a generic crime family from the olden days of Gotham that were there to show Batman transition from fighting regular gangsters to actual supervillains and yet we keep revisiting them. To me they are just placeholders for the real villains.

Part of the reason why Oswald managed to fool a lot of people, in-universe and the audience, is the fact that he is largely lying to himself. Everything he ever said about his brothers, Vic, his mom, wanting to get back at the rich and powerful, and wanting lower class people to be treated like equals by the upper echelons of Gotham, he genuinely believed.....but he's in denial about himself. Every person he ever killed, whether they were just a gang member or mobster or social elite, it wasn't about anything as noble as he sold it as. It was all about control, and him getting back at anyone who ever disrespected him. And it's why this show is so fantastic, and why Oz is such an interesting villain protagonist.

I also see the Vic thing as him seeing the one thing that could slightly humanize him and Oz saw that as weakness, And to rule Gotham He needs to be 100% ruthless, but he couldn’t do that with Vic because it was making him softer.

Yeah same here. If he just saw Vic as a regular henchman who helped him out a lot, he wouldn’t have killed him. He’s an asset. However, if other criminals see him as family and a weakness to exploit, they will. Just like with his mom.

Leverage is one of the greatest trump cards in the Criminal Underworld whether it's family, friends, important documents, or recordings meant to be private. If you got the right leverage, those people who want you dead would make a deal that'll keep you alive and thrive in such an environment. They're at your mercy but you're at their mercy as well if they find the right leverage to use against you.

The best love letter that penguin gave him, Victor, in the series, is when he let him go and he thought that he had lost. Victor could have left. Have left. But when he came back, when I saw him come back, I thought he made the worst decision. Because he wouldn't had to have worried about the penguin if he had just left. Because he would have been dead.

Thanks for vid. @22:02 it was mentioned off topic that their relationship was more so business in regards to Penguin pays her and she provides him a service. She was paid to play a role. Penguin paid her to portray his moms in the finale scene. Probably not the first time he asked her to do it. They were using each other and they both knew that. There is a theory based on the character's her last name, Karlo, in the show that she could be related to the original Clayface, Basil Karlo or could be this universes's version of Clayface. To me that actually works. Not like she is going to get exposed to chemicals and be able to shapeshift but the way she can "transform:" to be anyone someone else wants. We shall see. I did hear talks about possible solo series with another villain as well. The Joker's name came up. How true that is...may find out soon. Thanks for vid.

I don't think Sofia is close to Penguin. She only killed people that hurt her. Penguin killed her brothers because he wanted his mom to himself. That's a monster.
@JohnnyJustice777Ай бұрын
Another thing to note is that, Sofia is a lot more emotional. She thought the therapy session would break Oz, but she underestimated how delusional he could be. If she had killed his mom, maybe she would have broken him. But since she was shown to sympatise with victims, she wouldn't have killed her. And that's why Oz is stronger. He can shift loyalties at the drop of a hat. Hell, i can imagine him kidnapping and forcing Eve to act as his mother all the time, if his mother was killed by Sofia

Something that I see people ignoring a bit... Bruce just got shot by about thirty hunting rifle rounds, and then took a double barrel shotgun blast to the chest which obviously knocked the air out of him and probably at best bruised some ribs. Early in the Batman we see Bruce shirtless and covered in bruises. You can bet money those bruises were not from encounters NEARLY as brutal and dangerous as his high-caliber hunting rifle showdown. Where is Bruce during the events of the Penguin, which happens in the two weeks or after The Batman? Most likely in a hospital bed, recovering his body enough to be effective for The Batman 2. Which timeline wise will make him healthy enough by about Christmas time... Which is rumored to be when The Batman 2 takes place.

The moment Batman finally gets his hands on The Penguin is going to be one of those cinematic moments where the audience in the theater will applaud and give a standing ovation. The fans are waiting. For the first time since The Dark Knight, nobody is thinking about Joker, they want The Penguin just to see Batman get his hands on him. See what happens when you have an actual villain do villain shit, it makes people cheer in the hero even more. Not every villain needs to be Magneto.

@Linklex7Ай бұрын
It’s not an obvious reference. Plus you gotta remember, the Court of Owls aren’t that old compared to the major Batman villains. They’ve only existed for 13 years. They don’t have the longevity or history of the big 4 (Joker, Penguin, Catwoman, Riddler). A casual fan who’s never read the comics can see an umbrella (Penguin) or playing card (Joker) and get the reference. They see a reference to the Court and will have no idea what that is. They’re so obscure that even hardcore comic fans have yet to reference that most famous member of the Court of Owls is William Cobb, with the same last name they gave this new Penguin. Fans haven’t even referenced that yet.

My only thing with Batman in the show, I'm fin with him not showing up. He could be doing other stuff, its a lot of mob in fighting and we can easily explain it in Part II. @@cooldrop02 No, it's no longer a concern because she's a vegetable now.
