Has nothing to do with Richard Lester. It was the Salkinds and Warner that wanted Richard Pryor because he was such a huge star at the time they though he would somehow make the movie amazing just being in. There are moments in Superman 3 like the Evil Superman fight and Christopher Reeves is still great but it’s too focused on comedy and especially Richard Pryor who is miscasted. BTW Richard Pryor is a huge Superman fan so that’s why he is in the movie and also the director Richard Lester also did the 70s Musketeers movies, Robin and Marian, The Film Adaptation of A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Form and most importantly Beatles A Hard Day’s Night and Help

I like “drunk off his ass” Superman. He blew out the Olympic Torch. He straightened out the Leaning Tower. He let a truck fall off a bridge, because he was trying to score with 1983 era Annette O’Toole. Dude even had a miscellaneous hookup atop the Statue of Liberty. The rest of the movie is tripe. That second act is comic gold. Have seen tons of evil Superman variants and riffs. This is the only time I’ve seen the character being a straight up “eff’ your couch” troll. Love it!!!

From what I've heard, outside of the famous Chinese Theater in Hollywood, there has been a scammer that's been there for years dressed as Jerk Superman that tries to force tourists to pay him for pictures, and he often gets into fights with other scammers dressed as popular superheroes that do the same thing, LOL.

Growing with movies like this, flash Gordon, the princess bride, Hudson hawk, Ice pirates, big trouble in little china & so on is why I'm able to get so much enjoyment out of stuff like love, and thunder.

Much like love and thunder, there's interesting plot potential here (especially in the romantic area) drowned out by trying too hard at inserting comedy.

If you look in the wheat field the kid hits his head on a rock. You can see it lying next to him. But when I first saw this movie, I lost it when the traffic light signal men fought each other. Richard Pryor's character didn't find the Kryptonite, he made it, but got the ingredients wrong. Superman can't get drunk because his body wouldn't be affected by alcohol. Superman melts the mirror in the bar with his heat vision, but it was established back in Superman 2 that an ordinary mirror can reflect heat vision.

I've watched a few interesting attempts by fans to rewrite this film, including having Gus exposed to some alien goop or whatever that grants him his super-human computer know-how (possibly leading to Brainiac). It also makes sense for the malevolent super-computer he's compelled to design. What's wild is that, in the actual movie, Gus's computer skill is still kind of framed as almost paranormal, but ultimately comes across as the screenwriters thinking that computers are just like magic.

SUPERMAN is the film series I most wish I could go back in time and fix. So much promise in those first two films under Richard Donner, it seems like anyone with real vision behind the camera left with him. I don't necessarily need 10+ Superman films with Donner directing all of them, but we could've done so much better than...this. Richard Lester had his talents (not just anybody could've made A HARD DAY'S NIGHT), so it's a shame he's remembered as the lesser Superman director.

If sticking half your torsal out a second story window is unsettling to you. Imagine the whole body way higher and all out in the elevated open air.😅
