Born and raised in HK! we used to go for Sunday tea most weekends. As a kid I used to roll down the stairs because of the thick carpet..and if anyone remembers, the green padded leather doors in the bathroom with a tiny light on top of the doors telling you if it was occupied...I remember once Danny Kaye ruffling my hair as a child; my Dad was a senior Police Officer and he pulled me away telling him not to touch me,,Kaye was expelled from HK never to return, and on another occasion a famous actress said to my Dad what a pretty daughter I was..and he very grumpily said that I was his son. That was in the chesar restaurant..Happy days

It would be interesting to know why Danny Kaye was expelled from HK. I guess in those days matters were kept private, unlike today. You have lovely memories of this very special hotel. Thanks for sharing.
