Is this the 1998 performance at the Lincoln Center? I watched one of the 24 episodes, the first time the complete play was performed in modern times.
The only thing I can not get used to is how high pitched the singing is.

I couldn't either. Within a number of visiting sites, mainly the styles of Yue opera and this Kunqu opera....acquired a liking for their rarer form of vocals. This is cloud level singing. The more conventional operas or other musical dramas are admiring landscape levels. Enjoy them at different times.
