Any money demanded would have become overpayments and must have been going onto client suspense accounts at Head Office, and thus they would have known the accounting system was 'faulty'. Even at aggregate level, the Period End reconciliation would have shown a mismatch. Obviously, they saw this excess as a source of bonus payments to the ‘management’ Basically, it is conspiracy & corruption.

Exactly because they would have or should have known that their was no evidence of theft and none was presented in court. Most of the judge's asked for none and often made their ruling on a generic statement from an absent alleged witness. They are culpable because they did not direct the jury of this fact. Kudos to those judges that did do their job properly - they should be awarded medals imo!

I still don’t understand how they think it’s acceptable to make out like they suspected hundreds of Postmasters of SUDDENLY stealing tens of thousands of pounds at the SAME TIME, not even sneakily because they reported it as an issue and were ignored. Before- small discrepancies, as expected. New system- big discrepancies begin, multiple similar reports come in Post office - “is it our system that’s wrong? No, it’s the postmasters that are suddenly all wrong at the same time”

Today I listened to about 7 hours of the public enquiry. Jarnail Singh's testimony was particularly mind boggling, when shown emails sent from his account, with his name signed on them, he flat out denied he sent them, he could not name one person that had access to his email account that might of sent them. He seemed to be suffering from a total memory loss regarding anything to do with the affair "I cant remember" was his mantra. He also denied being the Post Offices top legal person, he denied it over and over, then a while later when answering another question about how something was his responsibility, he said it was because he was the top legal person....that would be the top legal person that an hour earlier he denied being. Shame on the lot of them!

One factor that seems to have passed almost unnoticed in this story is that legal fees for the civil case brought by the postmasters totalled £46 million pounds! I've long thought that a National Legal Service is even more of a right than a national health service, how can it be that protection from the law for most people is simply unaffordable? As a citizen I demand the right of free access to the law, under which I agree to live, whenever I need it for my own protection. If Parliament had been full of doctors instead of lawyers maybe this would have happened!

The UK legal system has been "might makes right" for at least 12 years. For anyone seeking compensation, compaines bury the case in years and years of delays, for starters. They will let the pot get bigger and bigger gambling the claimant will run out of time and or money long before they get justice and will be forced to accept a settlement vastly below the compensation they rightly deserve. The heart of British society is completely rotten, has been for 30 years.

Getting rid of legal aid in the UK was just one of the fundamental rights that have and are slowly being stripped from the people. When Nadar's book was and the US government was forced to act, the response of General Motors was to hire a firm to see if they could find any dirt that might discredit him. Unfortunately for GM, Nadar was a boringly dull individual with absolutely no scandal about him. Also remember US Ford and the burning Pinto scandal. Their tactic during the court case when a discovery order was issued, was to bury the relevant information in a mountain of paper. Luckily a Ford employee with a conscience told the plaintiffs where to look. Ford's cover up cost it a lot of money.

Every single one of the executives, senior managers, legal team and so called investigators and auditors of both the Post Office and Fujitsu has apparently covered up, failed to disclose evidence or outright lied about this issue. I have been watching the inquiry and they knew there were problems in 1999! E&Y carried out an audit of the IT development and identified serious shortcomings and failures, they recommended it was abandoned. 2003 they identified balancing issues, system failures and so on. How on earth they ever got away with court cases is beyond me. I used to work in audit and would like to think that I and my team would have spoken out about these failings before any court cases were being considered. The people involved are still trying to cover up to the inquiry even now. “I don’t recall, I don’t remember, it must have been somebody else”. They could occupy the Post Office wing in prison there are certainly enough of them. The vast majoriare are guilty of perjury and preventing the course of justice. My partner had a manager in his business fraud him, stealing money on a daily basis for over 16 years before someone noticed. She was finally prosecuted and imprisoned. However, it took my partner 2 years of his own efforts of forensic accounting through the books to gather evidence for that prosecution. It would have been impossible to fathom if the system was computerized plus, if he had not done it, the police wouldn’t have either. She also got legal aid for her defense. Her 4 year sentence was reduced by half. She only paid back 10% of what she stole through proceeds of crime, which we had to push for. It took my partner at least 5 years to recover the business through his sheer determination and hard work. The system seem to support her the perpetrator more than us the victim. In some cases, crime pays.
