As an American, although my family was British for centuries, I am told I have less rights than someone that washed ashore. I have to jump through more hoops,pay more money and fear what the Government will do to me, as they deny my visa and make me reapply every couple years. I am a British widow, but had to start all over! I work and pay taxes in two countries. I just came back from the immigration office today, and I tell you the mood was different. The guard asked me 'what are YOU doing here?' I explained I have to reapply and had to start all over, and now have a British partner, but they make me reapply. The guard told me last week they brought in a 90 year old granny who has lived here since the war, making her get a biometric card! Trust me, the paperwork and online application is daunting, and when I call for assistance, I get someone who is foreign answering that has never filled one out! There needs to be changes in the laws, and not one way for some, and another easier way for others...

Peter, you have no idea how serendipitous your short speech is. To cut a long story short, yesterday I intended to return to Bolton (my home town) from Altrincham after a happy day out. The plan was Metrolink tram to Bury then bus to Bolton. I had absolutely no indication of developing mayhem nor intended actions in my home town. At Bury, a security chap came round to tell all waiting for the Bolton bus that a section 34 was in force (I knew - the others were clueless) for the whole of Bolton MBC and all buses into the boundary of the town were prohibited. Not being a millionaire (taxi from Bury would be a small fortune) I decided to return to Manchester and then catch a train to Bolton, which I did, using my concessionary pass. I am still disturbed by my experience upon arriving at my home town; I’m an ancient postwar child and I have never, ever seen so many police nor so much equipment - never in my life. Some two dozen heavily attired British Transport police were facing us at the exit, half a dozen also blocking the footbridge to the bus interchange (no buses anyway). Further back were even more heavily attired Greater Manchester police, perhaps 15 to 20 armoured vans, dogs, horses, piles of barriers, stacked Perspex shields etc., etc. In the distance, in Victoria Square (opposite the town hall) I could see huge crowds of heavily attired police and make out horses and flashing blue lights - then I thankfully shared a taxi home. I know Bolton well, I’ve lived there most of my life and, despite economic problems everybody gets on very well - we DON’T HAVE RIOTS. Watching GB News this morning, it was clear to me that trouble seeking groups had congregated and were ‘facing each other off’. I spoke to people yesterday evening, none of us at the railway station knew this was going to happen - yet the authorities DID KNOW in advance. On the news (and on KZbin) our ‘prime minister’, by implication, castigated everybody like myself, every supporter of Nigel Farage, every member of Reform, every free thinker and patriot, such as those who support this channel, every distraught decent citizen of Southport who were emotionally traumatised and angry, every patriot who is sick to the back teeth of nothing being done to rectify the situation. I found his threatening speech, for that’s exactly what it was, and the infantile repetitive drivel from the so called ‘home secretary’ an absolute outrage and disgusting insult to any free thinking intelligent citizen - an absolute disgrace to parliamentary democracy. According to the reprehensible comments emanating forth from this apology for a ‘government’, all Boltonians are now to be watched and - have I got it right? - a kind of ‘reserve army’ put into action as soon as the idiot politicians are in any way ‘upset’. The electoral system has been broken for some considerable time. A major issue is that we've ended up with a minority government who only have the support of around 20% of the electorate. It's alright messing around with boundaries to roughly equalise the number of voters in each constituency but doing that does not equalise representation in parliament. Proportional Representation is the only way forward. If we had PR then our MPs would have to learn compromise and cooperation, much as we are being forced to do. We're forced into cooperation with the minority and that just leads to tyranny and totalitarianism and the riots and unrest are a clear indication of this with a government who have no social conscience or respect for the majority. The Labour party is about as left as any party can be so it's no surprise Starmer refers to the far right, everyone who didn't vote Labour (virtually 80% of the electorate) is by definition to the right of Labour. We need to campaign for a fairer system of elections where such a travesty as we're seeing doesn't happen again. For the sake of the country.
