Fantastic reaction to an absolutely beautiful song! This is one of my very favorites by the Bee Gees. Barry starts off with his beautiful soft vocals, then a bit of harmony when Mo and Robin join in, then Robin takes over with his amazing voice. Such an emotional song that tugs at the heartstrings, both for the song, and for the setting there in NYC at water's edge with the Statue of Liberty and the Twin Towers in the background. Amazing performance.

... and another decade later, they gave us THIS IS WHERE I CAME IN, which is filled with tidbits from their personal and professional journey, and so good my young adult son said he downloaded it to a play list. The official video is great and shows their humor and even a bit of one of Maurice’s magic tricks. There is also a killer live performance from their PBS Live By Request. The guitar Maurice plays in both versions is the one John Lennon gave him for his 21st birthday. Please react to either of the options!!

Your commentary and critique are spot on. You are correct that the lyrics are poetry and that Robin singing that chorus blows you away with all the emotions evoked from his fantastic voice. He is incomparable and he has said that he sings with his heart, not with his voice. Now you understand why so many people think he is "the voice" with a huge following!

Robin's power blows Barry's "whisper" out of the park but the contrast between them is the nicest part. Barry sounded great here and it suits the song but I prefer his powerful chest voice. Robin was always THE VOICE of the Bee Gees. Their early international hits were often sung by him, I've got to get a message to you, Massachusetts, I can't see nobody, Holiday, I started a joke. Their first international number one was sung by him. All three wrote their songs. They went on for another decade until Maurice died with great songs. Notice the twin towers in the background?

Barry was lead on Holiday, & I believe their first international hit (New York Mining Disaster 1941), that both Barry & Robin shared lead & backing vocals.
@susieq98013 жыл бұрын
@@kthor - Sorry but you're wrong. Robin sang lead on "Holiday". Barry sang the first two lines "Ooh you're a holiday, such a holiday, ooh you're a holiday, such a holiday" and then Robin took over ("It's something's I thinks worthwhile, if the puppet makes you smile, if not then you're throwing stones, throwing stones, throwing stones. Ooh it's a funny game, can't believe that it's all the same. Can't think what I've just said, put the soft pillow on my head. Millions of eyes can see yet why am I so blind? When the someone else is me, it's unkind, it's unkind", etc. for the rest of the melody) while Barry supplied the harmony. Two lines vs the rest of the song sounds like the lead vocal to me. "NY Mining disaster" was their first international hit, a SHARED lead (Robin sang solo, the only solo vocal on the entire song, "It's just a photograph of someone that I knew". "Massachusetts" was their first UK #1. I said "their early international hits" were "often" sung by him. Many were.

I only wish for 1 thing here at this time. I hope Berry doesn't feel lost and alone. I want him to be allowed to survive and be allowed to feel pleasure while he is still here with us. I feel a strong love for him during the Holiday. He is loved by many for many reasons and love is more than just the music. I am older and I do understand the feeling and the real life that happens. I hope we all can respect and love what we have no control over. When we have no control, we can go crazy or we can accept and adapt to real life. :)

@beeharbour2 жыл бұрын
A great many songs are said to have been written for Andy but Wish You Were Here is the only one any of the Gibbs themselves said was. They never sang it in concert because it made them too sad but they always dedicated some song to Andy. Didn't mean they wrote it for him. Often the song was How Deep is Your Love, written when Andy was very much alive and having nothing to do with him. It was just one of all 3 of them's favorite compositions. According to an interview I heard with Robin's widow this song came about because he happened to be looking at some books on a shelf while he talked on the phone and noticed Hemingway's For Whom the Bell Tolls. Obviously more thought went into the lyrics as well but I'm not convinced that Andy's relationship with Victoria Principal figured into things as is sometimes asserted. Certainly the Bee Gees themselves indicated nothing of the sort.
@laurelcarter15732 жыл бұрын
@@beeharbour I don't think Victoria came into it either. I bought Andy's albums back in the 70s and in credits who wrote the songs on each. Everybody seems to be under the illusion Andy just sang the songs not wrote them, but he was just as talented as his brothers. I bought the One album because of Wish you were here and I totally understand them not singing that in public. It still makes me tear up when I hear it. Well partly for that song lol obviously every other song on that album is awesome. The reason I bought all their albums.🙃
