​@@woodcock21sI have a 119. With its hollow grind it won't take much in the way of destruction testing. That said, as a brand I trust Buck way more than Gerber. It would be interesting to compare Buck's similar models to this Gerber Strongarm Camp. For example the Selkirk is way cheaper where I live and I think I would prefer it.

Now, now, the sheath is nothing special? I require a WHOLE episode on what makes a great Kydex sheath. In my opinion, a small, compact sheath that has great retention and compatibility with multiple mounting options IS something special.

I carry a Gerber Strongarm as my EDC but if for some reason my employer demanded that I carry a "smaller or less tactical looking knife" this sounds like it would fit the bill. I tend to feel more comfortable with thicker blades but this knife would still probably do most of my tasks so long as I remember not to pry anything.

If I am honest the Strongarm wasn't my first choice but management complained about my Ka-Bar and then my Becker Tac-tool so I had to move down to smaller fixed bladed knives until I found one that they at least for now tolerated. The kicker is that I have received nothing but complements from customers asking what I am carrying sotheir concerns are as expected unfounded.

Please please test out the Real Steel Pathfinder folder, it uses a crossbar lock, has an almost 4” scandi ground 14c blade and micarta handles. It’s become my back up knife to my fixed blade for outdoors.

When you prep food with salt and pepper - hold them higher so it doesn't sprinkle concentrated blobs of salt and pepper on the steak - it fans out as it falls evenly covering!

Great review. They need to make an "Camp XL" or "Camp Plus" version, that has all the same features, but is as long as the original Strongarm, so you could really make use of that finger choil, and has a spine as thick as the original Strongarm, so it can be stronger for is extra length. It'll slot in nicely in between the original ultra tough Strongarm, and this somewhat weak sauce "Camp" version. "Camp" and "Camp XL" can be a 'his and hers' setup.

If you’re using it as a day every day carry or a camp type knife it’s probably way better than the regular strong arm looks to be may be a little harder in the HRC department also thinner cause geometry cuts

Gerber makes knives and tools that are constructed and priced for the masses. The new strongarm doesn’t excite me but I’m glad it’s out there for those who need a decent knife they can afford. I own a Gerber Principle. It does what I need it to, sharpens easily and priced well.

I carry 25 lifeboat matches in a vial, two bics ( metal safety cap removed and gorilla tape rapidly degrading for both intended use and firemaking) a ferro rod and striker along with vaseline soaked cottonballs in a tin. I gifted my fancy viking flint and steel to a pretty reenactor showing cleavage And have a tin with charcloth somewhere. My custom, fulltang, square spine survival knife has the ‘ I am a bushcrafter ‘ attached ferro rod with matching handle. Finally, my 1976 USCG DOANS is on my key chain. I go hiking. At the entrance a big sign posts a total fire ban.

i did not get the mora garberg my choice for just about the same price: the joker ember because: both are scandi, both are the same price, both have the same steel (sandvik 14c28n) both have the same lenght and blade lenght however the mora have a cheap plastic handle and a cheap plastic sheath my joker have a micarta handle and a dangler leather sheath with a ferro rod. i like mora: i have several of those but my favorite knives (with that kind of price tag) are the joker nomad (true convex , n695) and the joker ember (scandi , 14c28n)

As a resident of Japan where I can buy wagyu at the grocery store (whatever grade) save your money. It’s all hype. It’s good once, but it’s literally 90% fat. It’s delicious, but if you want a steak, don’t go wagyu. Wagyu is all about mouth feel, but eating a whole steak is almost punishment.

There was never anything wrong with 420 stainless, it's just not the latest and greatest. It has however, withstood the test of time and gives you an all around user friendly steel that: resists rust, holds an edge, doesn't roll and can be field sharpened. Stuff like D2 will be a distant memory and knives will still be made of 420 stainless.

The Strongarm is obviously more military oriented. This is a (general) camp knife as the name suggests. But don't call it a Strongarm with such a weak thin point. It makes no sense. And the price is way to high for 420HC. This should be a 60 euro knife max but thy charge 120 euro for it? I recently bought a Fallkniven R2 Scout in Elmax, as a backpacking knife, for less than 150 euro. So for the price the Gerber Camp is a fail.
