The perfect day in Flores, Azores

Flores has real 'Garden of Eden' vibes. It looks exquisite, but so very far away from where I live (Southeastern Australia).

Funny you should mention that in fact because Flores is actually the antipode (the furthest point away on the planet, directly on the opposite side of the globe) to Adelaide. So pretty much as far as you could go! Good thing you have lots of incredible beauty closer to home so you don't really need to!

There is a large Azorean community northern California. Mendocino, California. The cliffs on the Ocean of Mendocino reminded my Great grandfather's of his home in Flores

Reminds me a lot of Hawaii! My great grandparents are from Sao Miguel and Madera. I hope to go to visit soon. Many Azoreans immigrated here to Hawaii in the 1800s to work the sugar plantations.

Amazing video as always Gabe. The island looked amazing and I definitely have to get to the Azores one day. Though, from what I remember from your flight videos getting there you weren't a big fan of SATA. Maybe I'll have to get there some other way. 😅

If you’re coming from the US I might try United! You’ll be stuck with SATA for the inter-island flights but that’s not so bad, they’re short; bring your own snacks though there is zero service and you’ll be lucky if you get a hello 😁

Hey Gabe, Wrong direction? I live in upstate NewYork and have been to Hawaii 35 times. On the return trip it takes 24 hours of being awake, if one doesn't sleep on the flights. It is, of course, gorgeous but this excellent video reminds me of a smaller Hawaii. I should look into this - at half the distance in the opposite direction! Thanks - Jim

Yep it’s definitely more convenient from New York! Plus way less tourists around. That said, I still prefer Hawaii if all else is equal!

You might find some entertainment on São Miguel but everywhere in the Azores is very sleepy. It’s all about slow pace of life and being close to nature
