As a manga reader who originally didn't like the ending, I think that scene of Eren breaking down and crying shows him for what he truly was: A child raging against the world. I can't remember where it was said, but Eren never changed. He was always the same child that saw violence as a solution to his problem. He was an idiot because this was the only way he knew how to handle things; by destroying everything. Eren was truly free, but in the end he was a slave to his own nature. Humanity faced the devil it created, and that devil was a child throwing the biggest temper tantrum the world had ever seen. I really like the ending nowadays, it's something i'll keep thinking about for a long time.

to be fair the anime did improve the ending. The whole "thank you for becoming a mass murder for us" was not great writing and felt weird seeing Armin saying that. But now with the new dialogue it felt more grounded. Also, the anime implied that Paradise goes on for thousands of years of peace, where as the manga looked as if Eren did all this for nothing. What irritates me is that even though I somewhat still disliked the anime ending, is that some people are calling this series garbage just cause of the ending which isnt true.

As a manga reader, I have to say the ending for the anime was MUCH better. Fleshing out some parts (ie Eren and Armin’s conversation), changing up the order of some scenes, and completely redoing some parts (ie the epilogue with what everyone was doing) made the ending feel more fulfilling vs the original. Isayama said a long time ago that the anime is the definitive version of AoT and this episode proved it.

I think it’s clear that the boy will be the new founder which has no relation to Ymir or Eren. The whole episode ran on themes of “life finding a way” and cycles of war so we are left with Eren making things right to at least have a few thousand years of peace with war eventually destroying humanity. This scene tells us there also could of been Titan founders before Ymir also, basically it is just one continuous cycle and the rumbling is the reset button to bring an era of peace.
@darklordsatan4383 Жыл бұрын
If you want to know, though people have probably told you, they changed the ending quite a bit. Key dialogue that completely re contextualize the entire scene, or in the manga, the final chapters. In the manga, Armin's dialogue came off as glorifying Eren's actions. In the anime, they changed it into what Isayama was probably trying to convey with the scene, that Armin never accepted Eren's actions, but he took responsibility for them, as the one to turn Eren into who he is with their shared dream. It might not sound like a lot, but as someone who read the manga and absolutely despised the way the end was done, but really liked the way it was done in the anime, I can confirm that just that scene changes everything. The scene where Eren cries about Mikasa... A lot of people hated it for bad reasons imo. They just wanted Eren to be this "alpha male chad", and they were primarily a group of very vicious and delusional Eren x Historia shippers. So, him crying about Mikasa, a woman who was not Historia, made them furious. They wanted Eren to be the father of Historia's baby, so he could have a royal child and by proxy be more special. Their desired ending was Eren killing everyone, his friends, all of them, so he could go back and live in peace with his trophy waifu, and baby (who they wanted to be Ymir's reincarnation, because they lack any reading comprehension, and didn't understand that letting go and finally getting to rest is what was right for Ymir). So yeah, a lot of people were furious, and sent threats to Isayama because their fanfiction didn't become reality. Not even joking. It's as crazy as it sounds. When the final chapter released, they legit were convinced the anime would make an original ending, where their fanfiction version would become canon. But, the other people who disliked that scene? It was because of the completely different tone, and order of events. In the manga, Eren tells Armin he killed 80% of humanity in the very beginning of their conversation. Armin has... very little reaction to this. So, watching Eren cry about not getting to be with Mikasa, and wanting her to continue pining after him for at least 10 more years... It came off so differently. To cry and whine about that, AFTER saying he killed that many people? Eren just came off as so tone deaf, and so did Armin just for even engaging in that conversation. Eren just told you he trampled billions of people, and you for some reason think it's appropriate to talk with him about Mikasa's feelings, and her getting married? Wtf Armin? In the anime, they saved that reveal until after they were done with their banter. A lot better, and didn't give you tonal whiplash. So yeah, I am telling you, the changes they did in the anime fixed a lot of problems with the ending. They may seem small, but they were by no means that. Isayama had the right idea for the ending in mind, he just struggled executing it, and the anime team allowed him to properly portray his idea once and for all. Beautiful.
@veraaurelis8931 Жыл бұрын
You said it well! I love Armin’s words to Eren, their friendship was truly the heart of the series. As for Eren confession to Mikasa - the first time I read it in manga, I saw it as cringe too (yea I’m not an Eremika fan) but in the anime, I feel like they led up to it better. Like it doesn’t sound as cringey? Manga version gave “Eren being a selfish brat” but anime version gave “Eren gave up everything for them, but deep down he wants to be saved/loved too.” Idk if it’s Kaji Yuki’s delivery, Mappa’s animation or just me being desensitized to it lol. Maybe it was easier to believe in Eren’s feelings for Mikasa after the expanded alternate universe memory where you see how Eremika interacted living together in the mountain.
@twiphe4375 Жыл бұрын
i think this is by far the best summary ive seen of tihs entire situation lol. the only thing i would add is that some people are also mad at the tone of the scene where everyone was reuniting with their family after erens death. they think its too much of a happy outcome and too little people suffered/died in the ending, even though 80% of the worlds population just died. it should have been "sadder". again, reading comprehension issue imo. the scene did not come off happy to me at all, just pure and simple bittersweetness. they just defeated the worlds biggest threat after all, and all their fighting finally came to an end.

1) Eren didn't open his eyes during rumbling, he opened his eyes in his last breath just to see Mikasa 2) Mikasa wrote “Here forever rest peacefully, my most beloved, my dear. 854” on Eren’s grave. The first two times Mikasa visits Eren’s grave she put four roses which means nothing will come between two people who love each other but cannot be together / tragic love. The last time she put one rose which means “you are still THE one". 3)A white flower was placed during her death, which symbolizes purity and virginity. So, taken together, Mikasa's flowers send the message that she won't forget Eren, she still loves him (but believes he can no longer love her back), she will remain devoted to him, and she is waiting. 4)They spent 4 years living together in Paths (ch. 138) And only when he “passed away” there, was she able to kill him in the real world. 5)In the ending credits where Eren and Mikasa were buried, an old man Armin still visiting their graves. He was the last to die from the trio, just like when they were kids running to the tree, he was the last one who reaches the tree. 6)This is a very famous consideration. I read the manga when the ending came out and the anime ending was revised to make the ending a lot better. Bad lines where cut out that people hated like admin saying “thanks for becoming a mass murderer for our sake” also since attack on titan was a monthly manga people had to wait a month after every got turned into titans just for everyone to be turned back. In the anime there was a lot more scenes to flesh out the ending while in the manga because isayama was trying to finish by chapter 139 we only had 10 pages for the actual ending for the series. This all makes the anime movie episode flow a lot better in the manga and make the ending a lot more grand then an after thought. I love this ending and the messages it tells not just for the story but also a bit theme of real life that no matter what happens people will always get into conflict. The last part of the ending that was changed is the distraction of paridis which in the manga happened about 60-80 years after wrens death while in the anime it happened hundreds of years later

no one talks about this but I really like how Gabi and Falco are planting the tree together.. they are the "children of the forest" just as sasha father said and adults are supposed to take them out of the forest (war) and the endless hate cycle , and now they are living their lives as just normal children with love without any hate. Also, when Levi gives candy to a child who looks like Ramzi that’s really hurts my heart, Levi never lived his childhood and has suffered throughout his life with the loss of everyone he loved He doesn’t want anyone else to suffer as he suffered, especially the children. and then he looks at the (free) birds that fly just like his OVA“no regrets” when he sees the lives of his friends and the fulfillment of his dream of living freely in a world without titans without walls.

Also in the manga the discussion between armin and eren was so much shorter and rushed that it didn't even really make much sense. Now eren actually gave some reasoning for why he did what he did, and also armin actually fought back against erens ideals which did not happen at all in the manga. Overall it was a lot more nuanced and it actually made some sense compared to the manga.
@DaggetSWG Жыл бұрын
@@ringoringoringoringoringoringo Armin never justifies Eren's actions at all in the manga. However, when he learns of Eren's "true" plan, that kind of redeems Eren to him on a personal level. He now thinks that Eren did this all for a selfless reason, instead of just being a genocidal maniac, which is an incredibly shit way to try redeem Eren's character. Let's not even talk about the plot holes with the time travel shit, issues with the powers that Eren apparently had from the get-go(?).

And apparently the Titan founder cycle repeats, we all saw that boy walk into Erens tree that looked exactly like the one Ymir fell into. This is crazy because it tells us there could of been founders even before Ymir but they likely succeeded in the rumbling, basically “resetting” the world. This whole time they made us think Ymir’s Hallucigenia was a one off, apparently not.

Yes I also found the scene where Eren breaks down to be fantastic. People say it was out of character but I think that is precisely what made this scene work for me. Like you said, he was pretending all this time and now he was pushed to the edge and released his raw emotions; feelings that most people would not admit to having due to how selfish it is. I think a lot of people think the same thing from time to time. Just because you want their happiness doesn't mean that you, yourself, would be happier with a more selfish scenario.

Came back a day after watching this video to also say this (Cause i cant stop thinking about this show after seeing the ending): I think my favorite thing about this ending is that they did not overhype the moment Mikasa Sliced Eren's head off. No overly cringe, emotional breakdown or anything. She just went in, sliced it and picked it up then kissed it. I think this is overlooked but plays such a critical role in clearly shows her mental state then. Before, she was having a mental breakdown about what had to be done then decided killing him is the only way. Once she made up her mind, she executed-no second thoughts or anything. Resolve - firm and strong even though we can only imagine how much it had to tear her apart to do that. Then Eren having his eyes closed for the entire Rumbling yet only opening it after Mikasa showed up is so beautiful - almost poetic. He was at peace and thats all you could see on his face. In that moment, Mikasa ended his, Ymir's and also her own suffering. I have so much admiration for the way this was done. Its a truly beautiful end to a tragic story. Thank you Isayama!

26:23 I've always been fascinated by the Ackermans. The fact that Levi is able to make split second decisions while everyone is still digesting what is happening, it blows my mind every time. There were so many moments where he saved everyone's ass because he was so fast to react to the situation. We could also see that decisiveness in Mikasa back in season 1, when she realized their plan failed, and Annie was about to transform. Another time was back in season 2, when she took action the minute she noticed Reiner & Bertholt was about to transform. It just shows how amazing they are.
@Ami-vh7sr9 ай бұрын
The Ackermans were a line of Eldian Warriors, who turned on King Fritz due to feeling like Fritz betrayed them by trying to erase their Memories. Like all Eldians inherited the ability to become Titans, the Ackermans inherited a genetic Memory of how to fight and use their bodies precisely. This is how Mikasa learned to fight and beat the bullies and why the bullies were so scared of her, the same thing happened with Levi and Kenny.

Eren wanted freedom more than anyone else and was crippled more than anyone else. In Season 3, Eren said, "It is Armin who will save mankind." In fact, Armin has defeated Eren and has become the hero who saves humanity. I especially like the meeting and parting of Levi and Hanji. In "The Choice Without Regret," Hanji meets Levi, saying, "I was watching ." And in the file, Hanji says to Levi, "Please watch," and they part to stop the landslide. And in the final episode, he asks Erwin, Hanji, and the others, "Did you see it?" and ends it. There were so many other foreshadowing hidden in the story, it was really great. I was really happy to work with Nicholas in the last episode. The sentences are strange because I'm using a translator.
