I was going into the deep end of EDC, buying a bunch of crap I may or may not need. At one point, I bought an Amazon pack of 15 Bic lighters, 10 mini bic lighters, a bic multitool and was investigating how to mod out zippos... and that was just lighters. The funny thing is that I end up not even carrying them because I had quit smoking and I spend 100% of my time in an urban environment. I think what really helped me stop the bleeding was when I started watching youtube videos on frugality and minimalism, so I got inspired to stop buying crap I don't need. right now I'm just trying to strip out the edc items that i know I realistically wouldn't be needing in my every day life, because it's getting to be a bit cumbersome.
@BandrewScott8 ай бұрын
Being content and honest with yourself is the biggest lesson for me. Do I really need a $500 knife to open those Amazon boxes faster? Am I really going to be destroying the blade so I need the best steel type? Or is a knife from James brand (that many on the edc community shit on) really what works best for me? It’s kind of like watches where we buy gear that reflects the life we wished we lived instead of the life we actually live. Also, great episode X.

I can honestly say that i feel confident with what i carry every day. I've thought about trying a different multitool, knife, etc. But for what i do everyday life, a swiss army knife of some sort, Leatherman Rebar, Stanley 4 in 1 pocket screwdriver, and Olight i5R, are perfect for me and my workflow. I dont need to add anything else to it, but im trying to carry it differently. The one thing i always grabbed out of my pocket pouch was my flashlight, so i decided to carry it in the same pocket as my swiss. So now i have an extra pocket in my Viperade pouch to carry an extra blade,which i might not always need. Today, and most days, it's my 70s Camillus TL-29 electrician knife. Anyway, another good video, as always, X.

My Grandfather fought his way across WWII Europe with a Sherman Tank and a pocket knife. The Army only let him keep his pocket knife after the war.😢 We are collectors and conneseurs. Cut to Marine X coffee setup. 😀 I'm more prepared than 99% of the population with a multitool and jumper cables. However, I couldn't resist buying another Benchmade the other day because it is my all time favorite model and it was on sale! Is my EDC unorganized?? No, because I have everything I could ever need at home, at work and in my truck. I'm a collector. My Grandfather would fix everything from a gun to a toaster with that 50 year old pocket knife. No multitool required. Finally, and most importantly- my coffee game is crap compared to X. I need to work on it.

I finished buying stuff awhile back. My EDC, emergency evacuation kits and everything I need to survive a disaster at home are pretty much finished. I'm a retired carpenter and you learn when you buy tools to buy the best and forget the rest one time.

I don't need a knife regularly, even for Amazon packages. My Victorinox Manager scissors will do the job if I need, or, the tiny 1" blade on it will. The Manager is really my only at home daily carry, and it does everything I need. I have a Bibury multitool, but never carry it. It's for when I need to work on something too big for my Manager, and I go get it. My out of house EDC is built around efficiency. How can I get the most things I actually need into the smallest, lightest package? Right now, everything but keys, wallet, and the Manager fit into an Altoids tin, which is light and almost invisible in my pants. Ans half of it is medications for myself and my wife. The perfect EDC is what achieves the goal you're after. For me, that's efficient, lightweight functionality. For others, it's survivalist fetish. Or a fashion statement. Or they work a job where they'd be using an Arc 3 hours a day. Or they're a gadget nerd. Whatever your reason is, own it. Accept why you do what you do, and that it's your reason, and be honest with yourself about it. As long as you're honest with yourself about it (and thereby with others), whatever you're doing, you're doing it right. Carry on, whatever you're carrying.

And I also think at least for me and probably alot of us... we like being that guy.... the guy that can fix stuff on the fly or who has a knife or bottle opener at the ready..or can tighten a loose screw at someone else's house... stuff like that.... that's def one reason I try to always have the appropriate stuff on me...

My EDC knife is a cheap duratech off amazon and my flashlight is a lumintop AA 2.0. Both do the job perfectly for me.
@timothyoakhart88608 ай бұрын
My edc is always the same. Pen, Slipjoint knife (which is more than capable of handling 80% of all tasks and whatever it can’t handle a fixed blade sure can), slim front pocket wallet and my phone. Nothing more than necessary. There is always a right tool for the job but the less you know the more shit you tend to have to carry. In daily life for me, my set up covers me for more than I need. I have a couple of other small things in my backpack I take to work every day but I’m not hauling multi-tools and 2 knives and pocket trash. I like to travel light and fast yet capable. All the edc equipment in the world is worthless without a good head on your shoulders and that really should be your primary edc.

false, your knives must have their own knives and those knives need to have knives of their own.

As far as the " quest"i think for alot of ppl myself included.... being on the hunt for new stuff is what makes it so much fun.... if we had to carry the same exact thing everyday... love would be sooo boring.... but I'm sure alot of us have found certain things that work way better than others..I know I have... but having lots of stuff to choose from.. at least for me... that's the fun part... hunting down knives that are no longer in production... and stuff like that

For me, EDC isn't "the end game." They are the TOOLS I use to get me to "the end game." It's in that vein, then, that I say: I don't believe in "the perfect EDC." I believe in having enough pieces of quality (not necessarily expensive) equipment to take "the best possible EDC with me THAT day..." Some days, that's a knife, a wallet, and a light. Others, its a back pack full of equipment... But *always,* ZERO trading cards *smirk 😏

X may not call you an idiot, but we are all thinking it 😅 I’m sorry, but if you willingly spend $30 on that pack of 8 cards, then you are too far gone and cannot be helped. Even though I don’t carry pocket trash or spinners I get the appeal, they help with anxiety, ADHD, etc. But these cards have absolutely nothing to do with EDC, there is no practically to them and true to BID fashion they are overpriced for what you are actually getting, even if it says made in the USA on the pack. Just another way for companies to pray on the weak and coerce them into spending money on crap they don’t actually need. The sad part is, just like X said, these will most probably sell out because they are “exclusive”😂

When I saw those trading cards I had to almost throw up I thought they were so silly as if these people are like rock stars or something. I mean, it’s cool, whatever but I don’t think that pretty much anybody on KZbin belongs on a trading card. I know there are some very famous larger than life people that have KZbin channels such as like some big rock stars or something but the whole trading cards thing for this subject is a little bit ridiculous. And a lot of them don’t even really look like the people that they’re supposed to represent. The artistic choice and whoever agreed with that is kind of out to lunch. Ben Peterson doesn’t look anything like Ben Peterson.
