In my opinion games need to evolve. Halo didn't have too many directions left to go while keeping the core game exactly the same. And Halo 5 was a good evolution of the series imo.

Honestly, halo 5 mythic arena was peak. No sprint, no clamber or slide, higher junps and faster base movement speed with thruster. If they made a new halo with that movement it would be a true banger.

I know h5 wont survive on PC but man would i love a PC port. A proper pc port that includes (yes also the campaign) Warzone. Halo 5 was a game only I played, no friends, and warzone was sooo much fun. And as you mentioned it was really competetively focused but it offered so much fun social things too. Super fiesta is 10x better in h5 than infinite, infected customs, griffball, zombie escape, and so much more. Halo infinite has the potential but the movement isnt there really. And i understand they wanna listen to the boomer players, and i agree with alot of it, i am one aswell. But h5 advanced movement was really fun, i miss the h5 thrust most of all. Infinites thrust limits the momentum which sucks.

I believe that HALO 5 is a good game, but it is not a halo game. Advanced movement is cool and I like it, but that's not what halo is about, because advanced movement doesn't uphold the sacred triangle (shoot, grenade, melee)

Halo 5's multiplayer also suffered because of the campaign backlash (wich was explained also in the video) the advertising before the game came out, looked so good! I was so hyped for it. Then they went a full different direction... It was a huge misleading campaign, and i don't understand how they could have got away with it. Personally i really enjoyed the multiplayer. It had many players around the time the dlc/multiplayer updates came out. Good times.

I played Halo since CE on the first Xbox, and each game had its own thing I liked. I really liked Halo 5 for its forge content and its custom web browser which opened custom games to people who never joined fireteams or communities online to do that, like me. I played a lot and it was lot of fun. Whereas I couldn’t play any gamemodes other than Fiesta and Infection because Competitive and Social were both too sweaty and stressful. BTB had a lot of potential that was not well used unfortunately. Warzone has its own merits to be engaging with the many objectives, in spite of the REQ packs system. Overall I have good memories of the game, which was sadly obliterated by the major issues that the game has and most importantly the overall situation on Internet with the reception of the game (unfortunately I remember the angry Late Night Gaming).

Brother fax! I've been defending halo 5 since it first came out! It's nice people are able to openly appreciate the masterpiece that is halo 5. It kills me that it's not on pc. Absolutely deserves to be in MCC. 343 really did their thing. That fact that I've played more halo 5 than all other games together is honestly a great feeling. People say halo 5 is a super sweaty/competitive game but it never actually feels that way. It's a game that feels like it actually rewards you for getting good.

I played matchmaking on halo 5 maybe twice, but I was obsessed with making forge maps and custom game modes. I can’t believe the game came out almost 10 years ago. Crazy to think we’ve been complaining about 343 for over a decade

Bro I was thinking the same…. Halo 5 beta was WAAAAAY better than h5 retail. The beta kept the essence of halo but when the game came out, that essence was gone and the game didn’t feel like halo at all. The game was all about being sweaty as fuck. Halo was always a social and chill game unless you wanted to compete in ranks. Since halo 5 came out, the game was never the same and Infinte is suffering from the same shit. The days were you just wanted to chill and to have fun are gone for so long now cuz since h5, everyone is just tryharding nonstop.

Hey man nice video! Friend just sent to me. One thing I’ll say, & I don’t mean this personally, is that you really missed out on the OG Halos at their peak. Your focus on movement & skill expression is aligned with how the modern shooter genre has developed, but Halo 2 & 3 were very different games that offered skill expression in different ways. I did a mega long video on it a year or so back. It’s hard to understand if you weren’t there playing at a high level back then! Anyway, keep it up 👍

The biggest problem with halo 5 besides its campaign was the fact that it took damn near 2 years before the multiplayer was complete, I played the game from launch till Infinite pretty much, and by the end it was exactly how you described it, but the problem is it took years for that to be the reality, its launch there were like 6 game modes n like 4 maps or something it was barebones and the exact same thing as infinite, so unfortunately while it was a great multiplayer by the end of its life, halo reach, halo 3, halo 2 had their share of problems but they all launched complete

Halo 5 could be fun for sure but there was no denying it was built with competitive play in mind. And yet at the same time the movement tech cheapened the actual skill gap that came with the old movement tricks, that genuinely couldn’t just be picked up with ease. It definitely had its pros and cons but I would never call it the best halo multiplayer.

I agree with everything you said. Even though H5 is one of my least favorite halo games ( Im a campaign player mostly) it has my favorite multiplayer in the series. Warzone , Warzone firefight , and the custom games are so good. And I was also 9 when this game came out lmao cant believe it was almost 10 years ago.

I'm glad we're finding others who have this opinion. I was 15 when Halo 5 launched and it is so special to me. I'd played all previous games before, and it was my favorite until I started to listen to the Halo community's overall opinion. Looking back, was the Req system predatory on my teenage brain? Absolutely. I remember doing calculations for req points to figure out how long it would take for me to unlock Nornfang. Eventually, I just resorted to spending whatever I could $10 at a time for Gold packs. But damn, I had fun with the gameplay. H5 has such a fond place in my heart and it always will (despite its godawful campaign). I just wish the population wasn't so low so I could play Warzone again. A relaunch to PC or MCC to change frame rates and FOVs would be literally game-changing!

Interesting video, I liked it. I would like to see you make a video about what the perfect concoction would be for a halo game. For me Halo 5 competitive gameplay was the right direction for 343I to be going in for halo gameplay but ofc as they did, get rid of spartan charge and ground pound. Magnum starts should be the standard for comp gameplay now. I also feel like the fact it was on console, had an FOV and FPS lock were huge catalyst for the competitive integrity of the game and maybe the next halo game ranked playlist should have an FOV and FPS lock but I know it won't. Honestly the biggest problems halo 5 had weren't even gameplay it was the way the game looked, the art style was not halo. Then the REQ system was predatory and I think if the system was more like Halo Reach credits system with selective purchases and incentivizing grind with certain but not all items being purchasable with premium credits that Halo Studios could and would still make bank from the in game store. Which speaking of which Halo needs to go back to rated M and not free to play. I have more thoughts but im not about to drop a book in the comment section.

Before watching: YEAH IMA HAVE TO DISAGREE WITH YOU SIR, I got out of Halo post Halo 4 on the 360, moved to pc in 2015 and so only had MCC version of Halo on pc since then, I still play every now and then got pretty darn good, was an moderator for the unofficial discord ( which those who know, know that it had more users than the official MCC discord because theirs was run by absolutely insane people and banned anyone, if you know you know) for a while and then in another discord which was like a filter of 200 of more social and skilled players from the unofficial discord😂, But I'm getting distracted, Reach for sure was the best Halo for longevity, In my opinion the Forge World map carries it without question because of so many custom games are played on it

Ok, watched the video, while I agree halo 5 has some good stuff in it, it also has so much bad stuff that outweighs the good for me on the long term. The main thing you point out is the movement and granted it is pretty cool and the remake maps don’t play the same on infinite without it but if it is the movement and the high skill gap that “no other game can replicate” that you like the most, may I suggest trying out the Titanfall series? (Not Apex).

Titanfall is completely different. I have played the second games multiplayer and it truly plays nothing like halo 5. Titanfall's multiplayer is more comparable to btb in halo than arena. There isn't a sense of competitive integrity and the movement is fun but is not very difficult to master when compared to all the nuances in Halo 5. The game also lacks teamwork due to the low ttk and there is some very corny unskillful ways to play.

There is never going to be a Perfect Halo Multiplayer, cause there are so many different players now, We got= -the party game players of CE -the button combo mashers of H2 -even more party game players mixed with a few competitive sweaty's from H3 -the Destiny players from Reach -and the CoD players from H4 H5 multiplayer was a good game outside of the p2w bullshit, but it not even Halo anymore, it's Titanfall 2.5 Infinite is the first Halo since H3 that actually has Halo gameplay again, it took them nearly 3 years after release to get there, but it's in an okay state now, sadly the vehical sandbox is still a bit f*cked after all the shit they done to it since Reach, but at least it got somewhat fixed for custom games.

Nothing quite as perfect as terrible net code, awful glitches, terrible campaign, predatory monetization and horrible cosmetics. I will agree that the movement improvements were actually good and really fun, most of the gunplay also was really great. But 343 really dropped the ball so hard with everything else that it made 5 the most forgettable halo multiplayer. I lived through every release and for what it was at the time 5 was nothing special. Keep in mind it came out between both titanfalls, so by the standard of movement shooting it was already behind. And the fact that they couldn’t nail it in proves that 343 really doesn’t care about the franchise outside of what money it can make from it. They chase trends with the mask of nostalgia nothing more.
