Hey!! Ashlyn here :) thank you so much!!! 🥰🥰 I was honestly so nervous as I've never presented on camera before lol I'm glad it was entertaining and engaging!!! As far as the necklace (it is my favorite!) I actually JUST tried to find the company online that I got it from years ago (so that I could give you the link) and they literally went out of business YESTERDAY 😱 can't believe it!! It was from a company called Chloe and Isabel. I'm sad as I had thought about getting a second one in case this one broke.

I used measuring spoons to find the right amount of food for a meal. one day I tried a spoon and a half, next day I used a spoon, then a spoon and a quarter, and etc until I found the right amount. if it doesn’t get eaten by 2 and a half hours it’s too much, I it gets eaten in a minute it’s not enough.

I have followed you guys for years and never owned birds or wanting to own birds (because of the high maintance need). Suddenly a few weeks ago we got a budgie flying in our door. Didnt find the owner. So now we appearantly have a bird. The best part is that I emmediatly started with your feeding system. I bought your online recipes and mixed blueberrys seedmix for him. I also talked with Jen from customer service several times to try to help me find some good pellets here in Norway. Thank you so much for all you videos and online courses. I do have birds, & this is the best source of information I have found. I will add, everyone who either has or wants to have a bird should do & continue to do research before ,as well as keeps birds. Because information is continually increasing about the best care of these enchanting creatures. This is not the only information available, but it is vital that people learn how to properly care for individual species. One size does not fit all birds.

This was great! As a new bird owner, I managed to come around to this by experimenting, but it's really nice to see it confirmed. My GCC is a little pig! Weighing her daily is a must, especially since she is really food motivated, so it helps me make adjustments to how much I'm feeding her as necessary.

I love the food beak at the end. Ashley, you are an incredible teacher, you are easy to understand and much sweetness comes through. I can honestly say the BirdTricks diet is life changing. Having had my previous cockatiel and now my current cockatiel on it - so much more energy and healthy interaction. It just works. On poop - beware, once you get to feeding in the morning and at night - larger elimination follows. Much love - oh yeah, ice trays are fantastic, I use 1/2 a cube for the evening feeding.

Thanks for doing this! I just received the 2 bird bread and pellets package and made one batch of the bread. I need to save up for the recipe books. I have two White Fronted Amazons, Poppy and PepperAnnie, hatch mate sisters that are 16 years old. They are going to be in for a real change of feeding even though they do get a lot of variety in their diet. I am looking forward to getting them a new cage now that I have moved to a retirement community and have a room that can accommodate a larger one. I am learning so much from your channel and am hoping to do more with my girls. They both wave, shake hands, give kisses and mimic bird calls as well as meow and bark but not often on command. One used to talk but stopped after one of my moves. I am thankful for how you are so honest and show the ups and downs of bird care and training. Wish I lived closer!

Hello! Ashlyn here :) You are already on your way to getting your birds on an amazing diet! 👍👍 I do want to mention, the birdie bread is quite dense, so while it may look like your bird isn't eating large quantities of it, those nutrients are still there!! Also, I know you don't have the books yet, but I would recommend introducing your birds to veggies by adding very finely chopped vegetables to the birdie bread mix before baking. This is how I got my picky eaters to start eating veggies, and now they still love their biride bread but will also eat veggies on their own just fine. I hope this helps!! ❤❤

@@tangothebubbypuppychicken526 Thanks Ashlyn, they already do eat fresh veggies but I definitely will be upping the percentage of it in their diet and will try prepping it and freezing it now too. I will be mixing pellets into scrambled egg with some peppers and carrots although I did add some to their dish and they turned them to dust :) so I know they are liking trying them already.

This was a video that I really needed thanks so much.Please could you do a video on training your bird during hormone breeding season. Although my bird doesn’t bite at this time, I feel like I could possibly use training to help divert her from the behaviour, I literally need to cover my feet at all times because it’s such a strong trigger for her trying to regurgitate and step on my feet panting etc. It’s so hard to get her attention when she’s in this place and I can’t make my feet disappear, she will constantly fly to my feet where ever I am, she has the mother of all foot fetishes ! 😂😂

After watching your video, I realized that I am overfeeding my Blue-front Amazon. I adopted her a year ago and know that her eating habits were not particularly good before and she is 23 years old, so old habits may be harder to change. I give her pellets in the morning and if there are no seeds in her cage, she will eat them. Today I am going to make "chop" for her and start that tomorrow too. I want to cut back on the seeds because the Avian vet said she is prone to fatty liver disease and being over-weight. Thanks a lot!

I started with 2 tbsp of pellets. My conures get 1 flat tbsp, my Quaker gets a slightly rounded tbsp because he is overweight (came to me that way), my moustache and brown head get a heaping tbsp. If I don’t have time to do chop, I always have sprouts on the go for them. My Quaker is the fussiest. I have to wet his pellets, and not fussy about fruit or veggies. But I keep trying.

Baby birds/weaning birds should have access to food 24/7 during the weaning process as they're just learning to play and explore with their food. Still, don't leave so much that it goes stale or gross.

Hi Ashlyn, great video! I have a sun conure who is about 11 months old. When I bought him he was fed purina pellets and those are the only pellets he will eat. I also leave his bowl in his cage 24/7. How do you recommend converting the type of pellets he’s eating while also altering his diet to two feedings a day? Do I take his bowl out and start feeding him two meals cold turkey and then work on converting the pellets? I would appreciate any pointers on this! Also how long do you leave their breakfast & dinner in with them? Thank you!

Birdie bread is DENSE and should definitely not be fed in nearly these quantities, but you could apply the same idea for figuring out how much birdie bread to feed. We recommend all fruits only be given as treats, not as a daily item, due to their high sugar content (this can create energy spikes in your bird which could be released as aggression or unwanted behaviors. So helpful! I am currently working with two rescued cockatoos who are not use to eating healthy foods and it’s so hard to know if they are getting enough nutrition! One of them I can handle to weigh the other I can’t so I need to find a way to weigh the whole cage or something.

Ok I am going to be a new sun conure mom. I am starting to feel a lil overwhelmed with the morning feeding and what I mix to make the food. I have questions on the training also but I will keep watching lol.

I got the NFS and wished that there was some sort of fillable/print page to enter this data (the how much to feed) and to guide on the info you provided on this video ;) maybe future cookbook update!

Great video!! Good job Ashlyn. Any suggestions for a stubborn sun conure who absolutely hates your pellets & will scoop them all out her dish onto the floor & go hungry? I tried the Birdtricks pellets 3x’s & threw out really expensive food. But she loves her Zupreem Natural

Hi Nancy!! Ashlyn here :) Send me an email at "info@birdtricks.com" and I'll be happy to send you some conversion guides along with a video I did on my youtube channel of a recipe that converted my super picky eaters! (Or if you search "tango the bubbypuppychicken birdie bread" it should come up in KZbin).

Sorry if I missed it somehow but, how much time should you give your bird to feed? My bird always acts like he’s starving to death by the time dinner rolls around!

How long do you give the bird to finish it's morning meal before you take it away and weigh it?
@tangothebubbypuppychicken526
@tangothebubbypuppychicken526 5 жыл бұрын
Hey! Ashlyn here :) great question! We recommend giving your bird about 3 hours before taking it out and weighing it. This gives your bird plenty of time to eat, but also gets the food out of the cage before bacteria can really start to build on it.

Hello Leah, Ashlyn here :) This is a great idea!! If you need help finding something on a particular topic, I would recommend going to www.birdtricksstore.com and clicking on the magnifying glass at the top of the page - this is our search bar where you can search through thousands of blogs that BirdTricks has put out over the years! Sometimes these blog articles have links to videos that can help :) Hope this helps!! ❤❤

Thanks for the video! We are starting the natural feeding system and wondered how much to give. The question I have is when I see my buddy eating at what point so I know he’s done? I know it sounds silly but is it like 15 minutes is it an hour? Is it when he stops going back to his bowl? I really just don’t know abs thank you again so much!

Very helpfull. I Just bought the books. I have a question though. How long do leave breakfast out for my 2 conures to eat from. And is 40g good for 2 conures?
@tangothebubbypuppychicken526
@tangothebubbypuppychicken526 5 жыл бұрын
Hello, Ashlyn here :) Breakfast should usually be left out for 2-3 hours, but definitely no longer than 4 as bacteria can begin growing on it. That's another reason though that it's good to find the amount your birds will eat all of - if they eat it all then you don't have to worry about them eating old, nasty food! When doing this process, I would recommend having your conures eat separately until you know how much each one eats on their own, and what their weights are at when having their own food. Since they are smaller birds, starting off with 20g of fresh food and 15g of pellets for each would be a good starting point. Hope that helps!

I have a question that is not about the food, since that was really well explained. When your birds are outside in those great aviaries, do you worry about mosquitoes and stinging insects that get in? My husband, who is so overly protective of our babies, will NOT let me take them outside for that much-needed fresh air and sunlight because of the amount of insects here. I know that we have somewhat the same latitudinal coordinate, so I was wondering if insects that could possible harm your birds is a concern (such as mosquitoes spreading West Nile or a wasp stinging them).

Hello, Ashlyn here :) I can completely understand your concern about bugs, and if it is a super severe problem in your area I can see how it would be hard to want to keep them outside. I, personally, use my screened in patio as my outdoor "aviary" for Woodrow and Tango has his indoor room/aviary that he stays in when he's not hanging with us or outside flying. Jamie, I do not believe, has a bug problem with her aviaries. However, some articles that might be of help to you can be found here - birdtricksstore.com/search?type=product%2Carticle%2Cpage&q=bugs* I hope this helps!
