I think you nailed it. I’d consider this watch if I didn’t already have the nttd. Nttd is a bit more special though not great in contrast as you said. Agree the move should maybe be for a 39 mm and new bracelet. The mesh just doesn’t feel like a tool watch bracelet and the standard one is too bulky

As someone that has the original (in mid-size) that I actually used for diving. The NTTD was the SMP that brought me back to omega. The matte finish is what made me go for it. A return back to a tool looking watch in a sea of shiny submariners and SMP's where in recent years my wrist has favoured an FXD. The one issue I have with the NTTD is the Lume, not the colour of it (I don't mind the fauxtina) just that even though it's super luminova... it's not that bright. Compared to my FXD or back bay pro it's pretty dark and weirdly even comparing it to my 20+ year old SMP... it's still dark in comparison.

I was hoping that at the very least the new model would be thinner, similar to the NTTD. We as enthusiast can't help but compare the SMP to the submariner. However, they both serve a different purpose. The SMP is primarily a tool, dress watch secondary while the sub is more of a dress watch while doubling as a tool. The Omega bracelet is a big point of contention. Making the bracelet and case smaller moves the design towards a dress watch with a vintage flair. Meanwhile the current ceramic dial is very modern. To me the solution is to slim the case down to the NTTD size, taper the bracelet by 2mm and make the clasp thinner. Keep the ceramic dial. Done!

If you are going to by a seamaster then go with the no time to die. I bought it a year ago and it’s never left my wrist. It weighs next to nothing and looks great. I find myself constantly choosing it over my other pieces (including a royal oak).

I’ve also heard that the aluminum bezel on the nttd is not typical aluminum but it is treated for scratch resistance and made stronger. I would imagine it’s the same material on this bezel, I don’t think it’s fair to compare it to a typical aluminum bezel from the 90s. There’s a video about the nttd where they talk about that

I saw it yesterday in person and it’s nice, don’t get me wrong… but I wasn’t “excited” when I put it on like I am when I put on my NTTD. The contrast, no doubt will be helpful in low light conditions, (a known issue with the NTTD), but the design ethos feels what I suppose I’d describe as a little sterile compared to to the NTTD if that’s what you’re used to as I am. Still a great watch but us watch nerds will always geek out on these details 🤓

I sold my NTTD due to the lack of contrast on the dial, as in low light conditions, such as my living room, or a pub, I couldn’t tell the time. Shame, because in many ways it looked gorgeous.

They still need to fully redesign the bracelet. I think these are great! People need to chill with the “lazy” cash grab or this isn’t enough. It’s a timeless design and fantastic look. They just need to be consistent and design what they are going to do. Omega just seems to always being doing to much of everything instead of fine tuning the staples in the collection to make them the best they can.

This is far from true. Speedy has been refined since inception. Same with the aqua terra and Ploprof. The current SMP only came out in 2018'. Iconic watches don't get an overhaul every two years like cars. Given the state of the watch market, this year would have been terrible for them to put out a new design. It's clear that the ceramic dial design has been a great seller for the brand. Making a design that strays from the current will only alienate Omega current customers. Most of the 300m's iconic design cues like the bracelet, HEV and skeleton hands, are the same things some* folks want changed. Even small changes to those cues can completely change the design forcing them to lose identity.

If they do overhaul the case design, I wish they would remove the He valve and go back to some decent sword hands. The skeleton hands might make sense on a chronograph, but why would you deliberately decrease the visibility of the hands on a dive watch and decrease lume area just to see more dial?

would have been a golden opportunity to move to 39mm but they missed. I simply can't consider it because of the size. I have a Formex Reef at 42mm and while it suits my wrist size, I can't wear it for more than one week. I keep going back to my 38mm Hamilton Khaki Field.

This watch is just a marketing move to milk the current seamaster case size/design language. It has a milanese bracelet (much cheaper than the standard ss bracelet), aluminium bezel (much cheaper than ceramic), same movement and higher price-tag. Fanboying is not the way to go, otherwise watch brands will keep giving less and increasing prices. I really really love Omega but this release is just smokescreen.

How many sticks of dynamite need to go off in that space within your skull where a brain should be? Omega are never, I say NEVER going to make a Seamaster in 39-40mm because they don’t need to. The classic 1990s SMP was 41mm and thirty years on it’s still regarded as an icon. Few people ever had anything to complain about when it came to that watch as the proportions were seen as perfect. It’s never going to be any smaller.
