Starsector is one of my all time favorites that I come back to once a year because it gives you an amazing amount of stuff to play with, updates regularly, and just has such a rich and engaging world. The dialogue is amazingly well written and its filled with cool little secrets and events. The modding scene just makes it that much better. It always makes me happy seeing it get more recognition.

Oh my goodness. You found this gem of the game. Starsector is amazing game. But what really sells it(even though, vanilla is solid, its just getting repetitive at mid to late game), is mods. There is dozens of them, that adds some QoL changes, ships, factions, weapons, exploration content and many, MANY more. And with Commission mechanic, every run in this game is unique, since every Tech have unqiue way to play, not to mention modded faction, like HMI, that uses basically heavily damaged bricks, that barely flying in space, but more damage they have, the more powerful guns they can add. Or Interstellar Imperium, that rely on ranged combat(though capable of fighting in CQC), and have Titan ship that launch a big nuke that destroy any ship it reach, unless it get intercepted. And because this game have a rather low system requirements, you can play it with not so good PC or laptops, which is a gift for people like me who didn't upgraded it PC for 10 years at best. So yeah, Starsector is great, Alex(the main dev), is great, its just getting updated really slow. Though, that fact can be not so true now, since delays between updates is getting shorter.

I'll note, there is a lot of combat power in the yellow tree, getting 15 precent CR is not to be underestimated. also, you can combine parts of the blue and red trees to make extremely strong pairs of ships

Oh, i love this game. Especially the colony part with you watching your colony (and faction grow). I especially remember modding the shit out of my colonies to size 10, giving all colonies high commands, and watching my factions fleet just absolutely stomp on any pirate/expeiditon/inspection fleets

Not quite solo (my wife is a graphic artist and helping me with designs and some art). It's an action adventure type game, so it probably won't be of interest to you. Starsector might as well be the best value-for-money 16€ I've ever spend back in 2015. I honestly can't even count how many playthroughs I've done of this little diamond! As many have said vanilla keeps getting better with each update, but the biggest factor that keeps me coming back has to be the modding community! The amount of work, passion and talent present in this community is honestly astonishing, with greats like the Interstellar Imperium from Dark.Revenant, packing so much variety into a moderately sized roster, or classics like Blackrock Drive Yards by Cycerin and Neutrino Corp. by FlashFrozen. And who can forget the Knight Templars, uhhhhh I wish this faction came back! Rumble aside the sheer size of community made content is staggering and is more than enough to keep you coming back to the game even if the devs stopped any kind of updating for many years to come! I hope you have as much fun with this as I did and still do Stealth!

For cobat I'd sujest building in mods like bulkhead and thruster for combat. Always have a freighter, you'll need the room. Fuel is important, so plot to cheap fuel markets for exploring. BTW there is a hull mod, to scoop more fuel from gas planets, you should get that for exploring.

The only things I know about this game is SSeth's video. it will be interesting to watch someone sane. Or at least saner; many of us will not be forgetting some of your more avant garde designs in UAD... and recreating them.

Starfarer is fantastic. Shame it has BY FAR the most toxic community I have ever seen. Many modders have been bullied into quitting, and the ones left are all part of a clique, they even include malicious code in some mods to crash the game if they detect you're using mods the clique doesn't approve of.
