i don't now whether its a good thing or a bad thing, but when i lived in Paris I went out with Ashraf for two years. (during his marriage) Ashraf was a caring considerate man though I knew everything was secretive and one phone call would either take him back to Egypt or London. He spent much time in Paris and was always at meetings even at night.I travelled a lot with him on his private plane to Rome or Egypt but spent little time with him as one phone call made his disappear for hours.

It's actually very confusing, i discussed that matter with my father as a participant and engineer in 1973 war whether Marwan was an Israeli spy, he neither denied nor confirmed but what he really emphasized that the kind if info he provided to Israeli wasn't related to the heart of war, for eg the kind of weapons Egyptian army possessed, troops arrangment, zero hour, technical details related to the battle master keys like bar lev line, submerged napalm traps. All of which were part of untold and unrevealed strategies none that Marwan announced
@playonwords55
@playonwords55 5 жыл бұрын
Maybe he didn’t know about those details. Perhaps the Egyptians suspected his treachery and withheld crucial info. I don’t understand why he would even give the Israelis the day of the attack - yes it was 4 hours off but that was a huge help for the Israelis.
@semsho1071
@semsho1071 5 жыл бұрын
@@playonwords55 I don't know but according to my father's information those strategic data were concealed strictly not personally from Marwan from almost everyone, my father's base was few meters from suez canal and where rehearsing drills for months on daily basis not knowing if it's actually going somewhere. Cia satallite pictures alarmed Israeli authorities about our land formations to be in a war formation, back to the zero hour, wars usually start by the early strike of dawn, which didn't happen, and when most of the day had passed and nothing happened, additionally some troops were asked to eat and swim only 30 minutes before the zero hour, it was all fading to a regular day, Egyptian troops attacked when it was least expected

Both claim having his loyalty. A loyalty as a person changes. He was born an Egyptian citizen, but he died as an Israeli spy. Even if Egypt attacked earlier on October 1973, this doesn't mean that he was lying. Egyptian outposts might have seen unusual Israeli preparation, or the Egyptian council might have changed his mind independently assuming there will probably be a traitor!

successful unexpected military operation ??? losing a war against any army that is half your size and then talk about success is just funny. Daniel Gravel. What's wrong with seeing marwan as a part of saddat's strategy to defeat israel. Saddat had demonstrated extraordinary leadership and surprising intelligence for an arab, why could he not have master minded the angel ? If mossad took sundays off I doubt they'd spend it at the wailing wall. Mossad has always been on overtime. but this entire event seems to have an element of fate hanging over it, as if israel was due for a drubbing. It was God's decision and nothing could change that. In the movie, when marwan gave israel the final information of egypts attack, the israeli's never believed him. Sadat had been deliberately pulling the strings by changing the plan daily making it difficult for marwan to deliver up to date information and causing the israeli's to question it. The israeli's were being set up. Sadat was the master mind behind it. The irony was that the israeli's got so used to questioning the information that when marwan told them the truth they never believed it. And that served to protect marwan's integrity so that if he wanted to marwan could have continued to work for israel after the war.

It's logical that he had a network to source arms he then sold to arab countries... those people: 1. would not want to be named 2. were traitors as he was - to Egypt. Who killed him? His own fear - once he had been named publicly as a double agent - and of course - whomsoever threw his body from the balcony of his million-pound home. Unless he jumped. His shoes sadly vanished, with any dirt picked up from the pot plants on that balcony.
