All discussions reflect how personal, almost 'patient centred' religion and spirituality is for all of us. We are so psycho-spiritually unique in so many, immeasurable ways. The work of dawah on a one-to-one level clearly occupies a therapeutic space. There is trauma, socio-cultural identification, guilt but naturally hope, and longing. These brothers are grappling with a lot of emotional baggage that's embedded within the psycho-spiritual terrain of their non-Muslim guests. This point is certainly not to otherise or alienate our guests- rather it is to humanise and empathise with them. Regardless if we were born Muslim or not. We are so privileged to have what is ostensibly the 'objective' or 'hard' truth given to us by the Creator of the heavens and the earth. We must not assume that such truth is easily accessible to other people coming in and out of dialogue with us. The Creator is the one who opens up our hearts and conversely, lamentably, but justly, closes them. This is a public platform and the guests are bold and courageous enough to come on and share their existential and spiritual struggle with thousands of people. Can we please let go of the tribalism and attacking of our guests in the comments section? How on earth can you justify these attacks as either helpful or Prophetic? Lastly, it is not controversial to remind ourselves that we will be held to account with how we deal with non-Muslims in giving them dawah- it's not a casual or throw away responsibility to be exercised with arrogance or self-righteousness. 'So by mercy from Allah, [O Muhammad], you were lenient with them. And if you had been rude [in speech] and harsh in heart, they would have disbanded from about you' - (3:159)

@@Unknown-kk6ni not all of them... there's Christians who really follow Jesus teachings and see him as prophet and they know he never claimed he is God this is why you see lots of Christians fighting Islam because they are simply in educated and don't even read the bible daily..most of them just go to the church and open ears and that's it.this is why in the bible itself Jesus said this passage( Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will. enter into the Kingdom of Heaven; but he who. does the will of my Father who is in heaven) whoever follow his true teachings and never worship him will definitely go to heaven.

I predicted that this discussion would turn into a train wreck for Jason, and how right I was! Yet he started out so well. Jason claims to be a scholar, yet can't answer coherently a basic question based on Christian theology.
@psandbergnz3 жыл бұрын
Listening to Jason and most other Christians, I am glad I left Christianity many years ago (I don't now adhere to any religion). I have studied the Bible well, and am quite clear that there is _not a single prophecy in the Hebrew scriptures (the "Old Testament")_ that prophesies Jesus or points to him. The only way that Christians can shoehorn (force) Jesus into the Hebrew scriptures is by manipulating/abusing context, and often mistranslating the Hebrew (e.g. there is no "virgin" birth prophecy made in Isaiah 7:14, and the entire passage in that chapter is out of context for Jesus anyway). Jesus fulfilled not a single messianic prophecy. Christians have a huge exegetical (analytical) problem, and that is that the scriptures they read are TRANSLATIONS (from the Hebrew or the Greek NT), and the translators are Christian apologists wearing "Jesus glasses" as they translated. Very few Christians can read the Hebrew, which is the foundation. You cannot do sound exegesis on a translation. A translation has become man's word. The four Gospels are entirely anonymous writings - no one has a clue who wrote any of them. And they only come down to us in a Greek translation (not Jesus' or the apostles' mother tongue, which was Aramaic or possibly Hebrew). Nobody preserved Jesus' actual words. Not even Jesus' real (Hebrew) name is preserved or recorded anywhere. _Has anyone treated a great prophet so trivially, that not even his real name or his actual words were preserved anywhere?_ Imagine if the Quran came down to us in Greek, and not Arabic! And what if we didn't have a record of Muhammed's real name? Wouldn't that be an embarrassment to Muslims? Jesus' words should have been documented for us, and from that source translated into other languages, such as Greek. We don't know who translated them into the Greek of the manuscripts either. No record! For Jesus, all we have is a Greek rendition of his name ("Iesous"). "Who wrote the Gospels?" kzbin.info/www/bejne/qJmwZp-Yi6eaoc0&ab_channel=seektruthandwisdom

Actually, the theology of Christianity disproves Christianity. Basically, one is forced to overlook rational thought and explicit verses for Christianity to make sense. Rely on blind faith.
@psandbergnz3 жыл бұрын
@Faisal Siraj , the prophet referred to in Deut. 18:18-19 is neither Jesus nor Mohammed. It is obvious who the prophet is: it is JOSHUA, Moses' right hand man, who replaced him following his death. Let's quote the verse, which you didn't do: "The LORD said to me [Moses]: I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their brothers: i will put my words in his mouth,and he will tell them everything I command him to say." Moses then exhorts the Jews to listen to this prophet, or God will hold them to account. First question is whom was Moses addressing? The answer is the Jews around him! There is no need to postulate a futuristic fulfillment. Moses knew he was about to die, and he would be replaced by a new leader like him. The new leader would be from among the Jews' own people - their brethren. Mohammed was not a Jew, and not from among them. Equally, It is not Jesus! Joshua was a great prophet like Moses, who performed miracles (e.g. parting riviers), just as Moses did, and the people listened to him, just as they did for Moses. It can't be the Jesus of the Gospels either, because if the prophet was to be "like" Moses, then he would have to be a mere mortal, and not God in the flesh! A divine Jesus wouldn't match the description. In summary, there is no reason and no evidence to presume that the prophet referred to was Mohammed or Jesus. Moses was addresing the people around him, and the context is his own times, and he needed to prepare his people for the challenging times facing them. He wanted them to accept his replacement, which was Joshua.
@psandbergnz3 жыл бұрын
@Faisal Siraj , sorry, but Mohammed did NOT know God face to face! He only saw Gabriel. There are no specific threats mentioned in Deut. 18:18-19. Only that the disobedient will be held to account. We see this occurring or fulfilled later with the defeat of the Jews by their enemies (e.g. the Assyrians, the Babylonians, the Persians, the Greeks and the Romans). And of course the exile of the Jews into their enemies' lands (Assyria and Babylon) was the culmination of their disaster. The Jews have a chaotic and very troubled history. Deut. 34: 10: "Since then [ie. up to the time of the writing of Deut.] there has not arisen in Israel a prophet like Moses, whom the LORD knew face to face..." Joshua was not entirely like Moses, that is true, because he did not see God face to face. But he was still a leader like Moses, performing great miracles, and Joshua was from among his brethren (as Deut. 18: 17 clearly specifies). Mohammed was not from among Moses' brethren, so Deut. 18:17 does not prophesy him. Joshua is in keeping with the context. The verse does not say that AFTER the time of the writing of Deuternomy there won't arise in Israel a prophet as great as Moses. Be careful not to twist the meaning. We are all hoping for a prophet to come who wil be GREATER than Moses, because the world's problems have become extreme.

@@psandbergnz It's not Joshua Acts chpt 3 20 and that he may send Christ Jesus, who was ordained for you before, 21 whom heaven must receive until the times of restoration of all things, which God spoke long ago by the mouth of his holy prophets. 22 For Moses indeed said to the fathers, ‘The Lord God will raise up a prophet for you from among your brothers, like me. You shall listen to him in all things whatever he says to you. 23 It will be that every soul that will not listen to that prophet will be utterly destroyed from among the people.’[c] 24 Yes, and all the prophets from Samuel and those who followed after, as many as have spoken, they also told of these days. Samuel was a prophet AFTER Joshua and "also told of these days". So Samuel spoke of the prophet to come. It wasn't Joshua. John chpt 1 19 This is John’s testimony, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, “Who are you?” 20 He declared, and didn’t deny, but he declared, “I am not the Christ.” 21 They asked him, “What then? Are you Elijah?” He said, “I am not.” “Are you the prophet?” He answered, “No.” Even in the time of John the Baptist the Jews were still waiting and asking about ”that prophet". It's seared into their memory, (The prophecy) probably because of the fire at ”Horeb” from Deuteronomy 18 where they BEGGED (TERRIFIED by this vision of HELL-FIRE), not to hear the voice (BOOMING VOICE - DOUBLY TERRIFIED) of God anymore. It isn't Joshua

The war in heaven being referred to. Can be easily understood By the concept of Our Creator being all knowing knew what humanity would do on Earth, referring to a spiritual reality that hadn't yet existed. People on earth at war, fighting against the truth, not willing to submit to the Will of their Creator's plan for us. This is a war already lost. We just haven't realised it yet and won't until we give up. By surrendering to the Will of Our Creator.

Rev. Jason's response was to blame everyone else but answer the question regarding who got paid the ransom. He first said show the text, then, you guys are asking silly questions, you guys are not sincere, you guys are condescending, then finally 1 hr later came out and said it was paid to the Father. Then tried to preach his way out changing the word to perpetuate. Can't blame him as what he has is full of lies flaws and holes. I sincerely hope he is sincere enough to ponder on what Abbas said at the end InshaAllah. Now that he knows the truth he has no excuse. Let's see if he is true to the one true God or is he happy to hide the truth and continue this tainted falsehood which will never be defensible as proven here like light and day. Cyrus hopefully grows into the truth soon. Kais is deluded if he thinks he has been answering the questions. never seen the guy make anything clear. Always waffling to eternity and no substance. Jason ignored comparative religion because as a white European it didn't occur to him to consider any other religions. My mum, a Jamaican, sent me and my siblings to church because Christianity was all she knew from her youth in Jamaica. It wouldn't have occured to her to investigate the other religions, even if she knew, they were out there. I dare say looking at Hindu's and Pakistanis (Muslims) in the community, it would have seemed absurd to her to think she could/should follow their religion. I suppose it's a cultural choice.

Ransom Psalm 49 establishes a dilemma of direst condition: Truly no man can ransom another, or give to God the price of his life, for the ransom of their life is costly and can never suffice . . . (49:7-8) The condition of man since the fall is one of bondage to sin and corruption from death. Having disobeyed God, we have revolted from our insidest selves to His good order and holy decrees. Therefore, we are slaves to death and children of wrath. The psalmists then effectively tell us, no man can rescue himself. And we can’t even rescue each other. And why? Because no sinner can muster the moral currency required to pay the ransom for this rescue. This is cause for great humility in ourselves, because those who are saved are not saved by any righteousness of their own, and for great patience and mercy with others, because those who do not believe in Christ are, biblically speaking, captives. So there is the gospel of Jesus Christ to be carried into every dark corner of the soul and every far corner of the world! Because in the gospel comes the ransom that sets captives free. Psalm 49:15 tells of it: “But God will ransom my soul from the power of Sheol, for he will receive me.” God will pay the ransom himself in order to receive us back to himself. He has done this through Christ, who is our ransom, as we see in texts like Mark 10:45: “For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” But this angle on the atonement has always raised the sticky question: To whom is the ransom paid? In C.S. Lewis’s classic work of “supposal,” The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe, we see where Aslan makes the payment of his life for Edmund’s liberation in response to the White Witch’s demands. It’s a powerful scene and not without biblical resonance, but if we draw the lines to directly, we may make a theological mistake of some importance. Aslan is clearly Christ in the story, and the Witch is clearly the stand-in for our accuser Satan. But while Satan is often called the god of this world (2 Cor. 4:4), he is still subservient to the sovereign Lord of all the cosmos. So we have to be careful in how we speak of ransom, lest we lend too much power to the enemy and deflect too much glory away from God. There is in fact a “ransom text” in the Bible that gives us a clue as to whom is being paid the ransom. In 1 Timothy 2:5-6, Paul writes: For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all, which is the testimony given at the proper time. The context of this passage show us Christ as the “mediator” not between men and the devil or between God and the devil but between men and God. It would seem from the shape of this text, that the ransom is paid by the Son of God to God the Father, as Jesus becomes the ransoming mediator between God and men, making atonement for men to God. And of course we see the foundation of this truth in Psalm 49:7, where the ransom price of man’s life is said to be owed to God. In this sense, the ransom view of the atonement is similar to the concept of propitiation (Rom. 3:25; Heb. 2:17; 1 John 2:2), which means “to make favourable.” Who has Christ made favourable with His sacrifice on the cross? Certainly not the enemy, whose frustration is compounded eternally knowing that Jesus’ death redeems souls from sin and its punishment, and who at the cross is not paid but actually shamed (Col. 2:15), and not satisfied but actually defeated (Heb. 2:14-15). No, at the cross, the sinless Jesus has taken the punishment owed by the Father to the sinful rebels against His holiness (Isaiah 53:4-5). The wrath of God has been satisfied at the cross of Christ (Col. 1:20). It is the Father who in holy love sends His Son to make the payment that removes his holy wrath from the children of God (1 John 4:10; John 3:36). The Father has been propitiated. Similarly, then, Christ has paid the ransom to the only one who truly holds life and death in His hands-God Himself. So in the beautiful irony of the gospel, we are effectively saved from God by God the Son. The only security from God’s wrath, then, is found in God’s love in Christ (Psalm 2:12). The ransom now paid, we have been delivered from the domain of sin and death into perfect union with the Son of God, in whom there is therefore now no condemnation (Rom. 8:1).

Read John 3:5-17 then you will see Jesus did speak those words, > "5 Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ 8 The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit.” 9 Nicodemus answered and said to Him, “How can these things be?” 10 Jesus answered and said to him, “Are you the teacher of Israel, and do not know these things? 11 Most assuredly, I say to you, We speak what We know and testify what We have seen, and you do not receive Our witness. 12 If I have told you earthly things and you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you heavenly things? 13 No one has ascended to heaven but He who came down from heaven, that is, the Son of Man who is in heaven. 14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, 15 that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. 16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved."

I think the best person to construct and deconstruct that what reverend was saying is Brother Imran. Hamza is too harsh and interruptive to actually help everybody to understand reverend's position.
