A 1992 Honda going for 100k any day of the week? Failure?

Honda and the NSX didn't fail. It remained in production for 1.5 decades. -It made such massive industry waves for being the first truly usable and reliable sports car which forced Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche, etc to start making their cars more reliable. -It was the benchmark identified by Gordon Murray for what the McLaren F1 had to reach in order for the F1 to be a good car. -The late great Ayrton Senna was very influential in the development of the car which made it a very rare and highly prized driving experience. -It was the first all aluminum sports car. -The NSX engine gave birth to the now infamous VTEC engine tech that knocked the industry sideways. With exception of lacking on BHP it was far from a failure.

Its rivals sold in much higher numbers while also being much cheaper to develop.
@KaDuWin12 сағат бұрын
@ianfan1420 None of the Ferrari's, Lamborghini's, or Porsches were cheaper to develop or produce. More NSX's were built and sold in 1-2 years than all Ferraris and Lambos combined in 5 years. The 911 sold competitive numbers but again it didn't outpace the NSX's sales. No disrespect but you're way off base with your claim. A 5 sec google search can confirm the accuracy of your claim (never mind the fact I lived through the era).

One of the best cars ever made, period. Sadly, Honda didn't realize just how niche the customer base would be.

That Honda NSX was driven by the legendary F1 driver Ayrton Senna. He is testing the white NSX at the Suzuka circuit, and Senna actually owns the red NSX. The Honda NSX is one of my only favorite Honda cars in automotive history. Also, the Honda NSX was racing at JGTC and Le Mans.

Old NSX was a smash hit that forced Ferrari to completely redesign their 2+2… To this day it’s a beloved classic. No, I think the 2nd gen hybrid NSX is the under-appreciated gem that was WAY ahead of its time.

I have driven an og nsx, well technically a 2003 nsx but still the 1st gen, and man it's one of the most non supercar feeling supercar, it feels like a normal car which is a good case, and also it drives so insanely well
@Omar_ZX5 күн бұрын
And I do not mean that in a bad way, I mean it feels like a normal car in terms of interior and comfort but when you start driving it is every bit as fast as a diablo, every bit as comfortable as an accord, and every bit as pleasant of an overall experience as the r35 gtr of years later

What you have to understand is that the super rich care about Exclusivity, not Practicality. Besides, they don't need Practicality; they have assistants to do everything for them. They wanna pull up at galas in those One-Off Lamborghinis that are so hard to get out of because it's so tight, with no space for luggage, and requires special procedure to start because its racetrack derivative.

At least Honda dared to make something that isn't a Civc or an Accord. Is it me or does this reminds of American Motor Company with the AMX? AMC was mostly making economy compacts until it decided to penetrate the muscle car market by creating the AMX. I could be making nonsense though.
@squidproquo224116 сағат бұрын
It is you. Neither, the Civic nor the Accord are the cars to be referred to as that "something is not them." Any European car company could only dream about making cars like Civics or Accords. Civic Type-R is the fastest FWD car around the Nurburgring NS, and the Accord is overall the best mid size sedan of all times. I think what you mean is that Honda proved that they can compete with the overblown European sports car makers, by making a better super car than them. NSX is a legend. As Jason Camissa, who happens to the perpetual Eurocar fanboy, confessed that, if you get in your Ferrari today and start it in your first attempt, you owe it to the Honda NSX, because until the NSX European sports cars were junk. They still are but in a different way, like they are way more expensive to buy and way more expensive to maintain.

I always thought Honda made very fine engines. As to handling... their ff's are a bit hit'n'miss. Some are nice, some lack grip at the front. But styling is the thing. A small car that's enticing to normal folks, they sure can. A luxury sedan, well, alright. Benefit of the doubt. A supercar? No. The NSX looked like the sensible option, and it was. It looked like it cut out coupons for K-Mart. Sensible, but in that niche you need sexy. Still, because of the NSX Ferrari finally understood their cars had to be daily drivers as well, not Sunday Specials. So the NSX made the world better, and that's its legacy. It's a saint.

The problem with 90% of japanese cars is that they sound like hair dryers or lawn mowers. Very appliancey. There are exceptions. But most are very uninspiring even considering they were quick at said time. With that said im a big of 1uz, 2jz, rb26, etc... Even Toyota is doing well with the new F cars. But Honda to this day can't produce anything cool to this day.

A Jap V6 or straight 6 makes a very sweet and distinctive sound, nothing modern will match a nice RB or JZ and tbh, even the SR sounds better than modern 4 bangers 😔
