Love this watch. Don't understand the hate. An affordable great watch for one who cannot afford an explorer. Thanks once again for the great content!

I have the current model Explorer and have a new Ranger on the way. I only ever wear my Explorer on leather, because I don't like the extreme taper of the bracelet on my (smaller than average) 185mm wrist and can't get a perfect fit with the EasyLink. I should probably sell the Explorer.

One need not be too poor to own an explorer to appreciate this watch. They are two different animals and the Tudor deserves to be appreciated on its own merits. Many watch reviewers make this comparison and quite lazily, I might add. Having them both in hand it is immediately apparent they are apples and apple sauce.

Trust me, the watch spotter gangs in London will notice an explorer a mile away For me, a perfect travel watch has to be a GMT, my current favourite is Zulu time, and a great saving on the Tudor GMT offering

The Ranger is really out of nowhere but surprisingly is a fantastic issue. I tend to agree with you that this may be a better watch than the Explorer if you analyze purely from functional perspective. I order this watch and will hardly decide a keeper between those two pieces when the Ranger arrives. Bravo Tudor!

I was on my way through London at Heathrow heading back to the US 4 days ago (9/28/22) and of course I had to go into the Watches of Switzerland in the International terminal. Finally got to see the Ranger in person (my Tudor AD sucks and rarely ever has stock). They had the bracelet version and with the power of my US dollar (sorry UK) I was able to buy it at a really good price. I wrapped it up and took it home. Finally on wrist I will say that this is an impressive watch in my mind. I know this is supposed to be a re-interpretation of an older Ranger but I can't help but think of the Rolex Explorer 1016 from the past. This may not be a Tudor hit. I think the 39mm Pelagos and Black Bay Pro have taken that role, but it is a really solid contender for people looking for a great field watch. As long as they don't listen to too many negative reviews before they try it on wrist, which is where this watch wants to live. From a male perspective this watch is like a really nice looking woman who doesn't wear a lot of make-up and puts on nice, but not flashy clothing or jewelry, and can carry a very interesting conversation. At the end of a date you just want her! That's the girl I have and so is this Ranger.

Love the fact it's not too thick and all brushed, looks super efficient and well made. Not a watch for the Explorer owner as it's too similar, but a great quality/price ratio which makes it a strong choice for a first quality watch. Seems that Tudor got it just right, Thank you for the video Ash, enjoy Greece!

Just told someone that I had stopped reading reviews on this watch and then this pops into my notifications. Agree the all brushed finish did this for me and was probably the reason why I walked out of the boutique with one on my wrist along with the clean legible uncluttered dial. Was also my first quality/luxury watch. 2 days on wrist and I love it.

My AD called me to offer me the opportunity to be first on their list for the Ranger. I declined, not because I didn’t rally really want it but because I have the 39mm Explorer and they are too similar to warrant the money. This will be a big seller for Tudor, lovely watch! Great video Ash (as always).

Just got the new 39mm T-Ranger for my BD gift from my wife. I love it more than any of my Rolexes and Omega Speedy. Its simplicity and the color of the dial is quite mesmerizing and it really grows on me each day I’m wearing. I suspect this will grow in value too over time like my 25 year old Rolex GMT II. I do have to wait for a while in the United States. It’s not easily available like I thought it would. Thanks for the video!

I'm biased because I owned one, but you Sir, are the online watch collector channel who never seen one but gives the most objective opinion on it. Busy and blingy seem to be all the subjectivity of manh reviewers, but I got this for your first reason. I needed a high quality lowkey travel watch and the ranger is certainly perfect.

I owned a Tudor for several months a year ago and I'm in no hurry to buy another one. The movement in mine performed outside of COSC both on the wrist and on a timegrapher; the hour markers on the dial were quite crudely made and sloppily filled with lume and one also had visible scuffs and scratches which could be seen with the naked eye; and finally, the bezel kept binding at 12 o'clock. I also wasn't impressed with the quality of the hands, as I've seen better finished hands on other brands at this price point. On the positive, the lume glowed brightly and the bracelet was robustly constructed. I'm not kidding when I say that Longines produce a higher quality, more reliable and better performing watch for less money. Also, beware of the many snobbish comments online, about how Tudor is superior to other brands e.g. TAG Heuer, or how owing a Tudor will make you a 'watch guy' or expert, as they are entirely misinformed. The truth is that many of the so-called luxury brands, source various parts from the same suppliers to achieve a merely adequate quality and no more so, than their target makert can discern. Buy a Tudor if you like the look of it, how it fits your wrist and with your style, but don't be under any illusions that it's 'better' than other brands and don't fall prey to the hype and put yourself to any unnecessary inconvenience when buying one. My first memory of Tudor was in the late 90s when a new Aquanaut model was in the window of my local retailer and some of the applied hour markers had fallen off and were gathered at the bottom of the dial. Back then, that particular retailer was very firm and said 'if you want a Rolex buy a Rolex'. Asside from the supply and demand issue, I think this advice still holds true.

Good morning Anthony, I'm sorry to learn of your disappointment with Tudor. Other owners have also had problems, notably the date wheel issue with the MT5652 movement, and some fit and finish problems with early examples of other models. I have two Tudors, a BB58 and a GMT. Both have been excellent, but they were bought when production had settled down. The GMT movement in particular has been outstanding: the watch hasn't been reset since October last year. The hour and date can, of course, be adjusted without hacking the movement. I agree that the Swiss watch industry is somewhat incestuous, and I feel that their assumed status is down to successful marketing more than proven quality which is a shame. As with all purchases though, knowledge is power: if we do our research we should be OK.

I have bought many Tudors and they’ve always been flawless, even compared to much pricier watches. What I don’t understand is why you paid for a watch with “visible to the naked eye” flaws, and even less why you didn’t return it when you found out it didn’t perform to COSC standards, which is a clear sign of a defective unit.

@@robertlock6041 Hello Robert, I'd be happier if there was a way to deal with the brand directly for after sales and warranty, particularly if there remains a good chance you'll be needing it, so as to not have to contend with the friction that their authorised dealer network brings. They are not terrible watches and it's not a terrible brand, but as I said, I'm not willing to entertain any inconvenience to pick one up, such as wait lists or the attitude of retail staff.
@antonylaing2499
@antonylaing2499 2 жыл бұрын
@@giusepperocchi2979 because of the hype pure and simple. At that moment, they sold within minutes and it wasn't straight forward to be able to buy another one, had I sent it back. I'm not affaid to admit I made a mistake, I should have sent it back, under what used to be called the distance selling regulations and accepted that the brand wasn't likely to be for me. Most buyers wouldn't notice nor care about the things I've mentioned, for instance they wouldn't care to observe under a jeweller's loope the cause of what to the naked eye is a dull / hazy looking hour marker, namely scratches and scuffs during assembly. Neither would they test the movement in different positions and determine it was performing objectively worse than other watches which aren't even chronometer rated yet punch above their weight.
@antonylaing2499
@antonylaing2499 2 жыл бұрын
@@sts6761 I no longer own the watch. The AD wasn't local to me and the nearest one isn't particularly approachable. Many ADs regard warranty claims as a nuisance rather than an obligation, they also fail to explain to the service centre what the issue is and can also package watches poorly. Poor communication results in sending a watch back multiple times where the AD has written down the fault incorrectly on the card - I've had this happen to me more than once. Also, if you buy a different brand, there can be no need to go to the AD as other brands deal with customers directly and send you a service pouch with prepaid label and insurance. I've owved a watch from one brand who arranged collection of the watch from me at a location of my choosing (so I didn't even have to go to the post office) and they covered all of the costs of it going overseas. Their turn around time for the repair was less than 2-weeks - that particular brand operates at a lower price point than Tudor. I've indicated in my other comments that I personally, was disappointed with the value of the product and I don't have the passion for it.

I just purchased a Ranger while on a trip to Tokyo for business and stopped in a Tudor boutique. This something I can't do in NorCal. The design of this model was just what I was looking for in my next watch. The clean unassuming face with a brushed steel case/bracelet and solid build quality that doesn't attract attention. This fits my style of a luxury daily driver, well done Tudor.

I know people keep saying this was a boring release, but for me I love highly legible watch faces with simple (sterile) dials. I know everyone wanted a 36mm but then the same people would complain that it’s a direct copy of the Rolex Explorer. I can’t wear a 36mm watch, I have an old Omega Seasmaster I used to scuba dive with but if I put it on now, it looks like I’m wearing a child’s watch. I ordered a Pelagos FXD and a Black Bay Pro the day before this release and I may end up with a full collection of Tudor watches at this rate. A few months ago I didn’t understand why people even liked Tudor but their recent releases have completely changed my opinion on them

Hi Ash, this is a very pleasant style of shooting videos. I like the short format. On the subject of today, I think Tudor are on it with the Ranger. Excellent watch for the price and much more wearable in this day and age where you simply cannot go everywhere wearing a Rolex. Good morning Ash, nice video and reasoning. You're heading to Greece... Athens is two hours ahead of BST (UTC+3), so wouldn't a GMT complication be more appropriate? While I like the new Ranger, I can't help but think that a Black Bay Pro or Longines Zulu Time GMT would better serve your needs. The Seiko Presage Sharp Edge GMT won't meet your standards, but Grand Seiko products would... The MT5652 and MT5402 have both been in production for some time now, so reliability shouldn't be a problem. Personally I would avoid the Longines for a couple of years to sidestep any possible early production glitches. Whatever you decide to take with you I hope you have a great time. 👍

Hi Ash, as a follow up question (maybe for a future video? Not sure it warrants one or not) but how do you feel about traveling with a Rolex on your wrist in todays day and age? Lots of crime centered around Rolex right now, especially here in America. I know you talked about this when discussing your recent trip to London, but should we even bother to bring our GMTs or Submariners on trips across Europe at the moment?

A good question - the UK is one of the safest countries in the world, we had 594 homicides in 2021 (a 12% decrease on 2020) a marked comparison to the USA, which suffered 24,500 homicides (19,300 by firearms alone). So in many terms it is largely safe to wear your luxury watch in most daily life situations, I most certainly wear all my pieces as I would normally wear any watch and I have never experienced any issues at all. Of course, the caveat is that you have to be situationally aware of your surroundings. When visiting central London, I do not wear a large flashy GMT or Sub, as these are highly recognisable and sought after by criminals who target tourists and the vulnerable (drunk, etc.) Physical crime is very much on the decline in the UK and crime trends are showing crime moving towards virtual routes (42% of all crime in the UK is classified as fraud). Sadly I see the odd and frankly misinformed KZbinr, who suggests the UK is rife with 'Rolex Robbers' and sensationalise the rare instances where such crimes take place. From my point of view - as someone who actually works in professional law enforcement - I think 'Rolex' crime is surprisingly low considering the UK is the world's 5th largest market for luxury watches (with a modest population size). In short, you can wear your Rolex in the UK with relative safety, but don't flash it about in major cities or when out drinking in nightclubs or you may attract attention that you don't want.

Within the context of walking, eating or perhaps scratching one’s ear in a city such as London, what does it mean for the Tudor to be almost as capable?

I have the 41 and 39mm, the only thing I miss is drilled lugs on the 41mm. 39mm wears well and is simple easy read dial.

Great video Ash as always! A good looking watch and extremely versatile 👌 why not sell the explorer and replace it with a different rolex and buy the ranger too.

Don’t tempt me. To be honest, I love the 36mm of the Explorer and I know from experience that a 39mm watch without a bezel is not to my taste.

I went to collect a Tudor Ranger last week and on inspection I could see dust scratches and rough edges on the handset with the naked eye. It’s a nice watch but Tudor are definitely going full on budget retro homage Rolex now and it’s certainly putting me off the brand. I’ve had a few Tudor’s and I don’t think I will be buying anymore.

Another great Video! I have one observation after looking at this watch. Why is this clasp not already on my BlackBay GMT? Because I think it should have been. Can you give me your thoughts on this? I ask because you Have the GMT Pepsi like I have and I think Tudor should have had this on the GMT'S . Thanks Again for the reviews! Keep them coming you are doing a great job... All the best

I dearly wish that clasp was on the GMT. I suspect it will filter down to all Tudor new models as their catalogue refreshes over the years. My biggest dislike of the GMT is the damn clasp and lack of adjustment. Although, to be fair, even Rolex only offers their glidelock clasp on a very few models. They should be standard on every model!!

Hi Ash, I had a chance to see and try this model at my AD today… and after seeing it in person, I have to say it’s not for me. In person the dial is very dull, the colors a little strange, and there’s the same “dead space” issue I feel w the 39mm explorer. Additionally, something which my AD brought up to me and took me off guard, the lume didn’t seem to be up to par even when compared to other Tudor products. It’s a respectable piece but doesn’t have the elegance or “it factor” I get from the explorer 1, or many other models. Cheers!

@@barryhughes1612 I can appreciate that when it comes to things like materials or finishing, but I don’t think the issues are price related, they’re design related. The regular BB58 seems much more put together when viewed side by side. The new longines spirit 37 as well.

With your sartorial elegance, I would have thought that PP or VC would be more appropriate for you. BTW, Rolex watches are ubiquitous in London, so I wouldn't worry too much about trying to stay under the radar (no- one else does) with an Explorer! In a similar vein, there is probably as much of a risk getting your watch stolen in Greece- and that's absolutely no disrespect to the Greeks, as Rolex watches are a potential target anywhere in the world- as there is in London!

London…low crime???? I think not. Violent muggings for good wrist watches are through the roof. I can wear my Reverso in Hampstead at my friends place or Highgate, but not in Brixton when I’m doing the Academy……in Brixton it’s my discreet CWC 72 Mellor….much safer.

As an ex-detective Ash should know. Maybe he means it is low crime as long as you don't wear a conspicuous Rolex. Or relatively low crime compared to New York where you would be at greater risk.

@@kevinlevin3479 ?? I live just outside London; of course it’s dangerous. Violent theft of everything, not only watches, is appalling and on the increase. No one has confidence anyway in the the police….too many Wayne Couzens types for that.

Nice alternative. Thank you for the video. In the US, people with Rolex watches are attacked and robbed of their watches. The ultra liberal policies especially in California and New York has allowed many crimes to go unpunished.
