"The Perfect Wife" - Penny Scaggs believed in being a dutiful Christian wife. She even taught local women how to build harmonious relationships. Then she was found brutally beaten and stabbed beside her beloved yellow piano.
Was this a robbery gone horribly wrong-or was something in the Scaggs home out of tune?

They always overdo it on these true crime shows… I live in Austin. Penny and Roger may have seemed to have been “pillars” in their little church community but that’s about it. Behind the scenes, other things were going on. Their adopted daughter began topless dancing which drove Penny crazy. Both Roger and the daughter seemed to be tired of playing the “perfect” Christian roles and I think they were both resentful of Penny’s strict biblical style. As we all know well, there is no perfect family. Everyone has issues and struggles behind the curtain whether they want to admit it or not. So sad for Penny though. She truly WAS trying to be an exemplary Christian. 😞

“People wanting to lock doors”…? Even when I was a child in the 60’s, my parents instilled in me the importance of LOCKING DOORS and not giving criminals an open invitation. Thanks, guys.😘
@deniece0821

Same. I hear people talking all the time about how they never locked their doors, etc. Pfft. I grew up in a Middle-Upper class suburb in the 1970s-1980s. My parents were adamant about locking the doors. During the week, my bedtime was usually 9pm or 10pm depending on my age. On weekends my parents would usually let me stay up. Sometimes my parents would go to bed before me. My dad would ALWAYS do his nightly routine of making sure both the front and back doors were locked and would turn on the security lights that hung over the garage. (He always said that burglars were less likely to hit a house that was lit up with bright lights.😂)

my mother-in-law lived in a small house on the property of my SIL and her family (her daughter and family) in a rural area. My SIL has a huge home that could probably be described as a mansion and it's on 20 acres. My MIL would brag how she never locked her door and left her keys in her car. My SIL and her husband also left their keys in the car. However, it was never clear if they left their doors unlocked. My MIL would say, "They'll hit the big house first before coming here..." and I wanted so badly to say, "Well, even if you had nothing of value to steal, they could still rape and/or kill you." But I don't think that would have made any difference to her. They used to ridicule me in a very passive aggressive and covert way because of all the precautions I took, which is interesting because at the time, I was a probation officer and knew very well about all the crime and criminals around that most people were not aware of. Not everything makes the news! Don't be naïve. Ugh.

Defense attorney: The prosecution wants you to believe Roger Scaggs murdered his wife for no reason. No. The prosecution made it clear that he murdered his wife because he disdained her and wanted to act on his "animal lust " With all his money, you would think that he would hire an attorney who was a little more intelligent.

Wow, the friends are really ignorant. Nobody knows what goes on behind closed doors, and many people put on a front that belies who they really are. I'd be the one friend sitting with Pennys family! And who the Hell gets married 2 or 3 times in one year?!? 😳

Non-confrontational people usually tend to be the most dangerous to the very few people and the very few times they unleash their violence. They are very selective about who they confront.

Did Roger will think he was fooling people he was just fooling himself. His affair was will know through his office , sure the wife also knew . He didn’t want to get a divorce cause he didn’t want to loss his money , or home . So he decided to kill his wife. It was so obvious the police knew he had done it , cause no one else had reason to hurt or kill Penny . At the end of it all he lost everything. He lost his mistress , his business , and most of all his freedom .

The only thing I would consider, besides speculations, is why did the bag containing the pipe, the knife, that was used to kill the victim and the victim's jewelry, was found in a dumpster behind the building where the victim's husband worked
