The whole family got in on it. What is relevant to us is that Tommy's Estate sued Rodney for wrongful death, and won a multimillion dollar judgment against Rodney. To avoid the judgment, Rodney conveyed property to his wife, Berta Heemstra, who then conveyed the property into various trusts, and the trusts then conveyed the property to various of Rodney's relatives. Predictably, the Estate then brought fraudulent transfer actions to unwind these transfers and for damages. The Estate won, with the District Court ruling that the Heemstras had put together "a complex shell game" in an "intentional, harsh and cruel effort to put truth in Rodney Heemstra's arrogant claim that Ronda Lyon would never see a dime of his money." The Estate won the fraudulent transfer cases, and additional actual damages and also punitive damages were awarded in favor of the Estate and against the Heemstras. Thus, once again, we see where a debtor's post-judgment planning not only failed miserably, but also in the end made things much worse, and not just in the punitive damage awards but also in rendering Rodney's previously-innocent wife, Berta, now a debtor too.

No apology? He killed that man in cold blood. He shut off the water before the lease was up. Then because the law changed he gets a new trial and new sentence. What a travesty.

Thats NO self defence. No court would be THAT stupid. It was a un armed man,Who was killed because of GREED

I wonder if Mrs. Lyon will see any of the money awarded her. I hope at least for the sake of the family,that the killer will have to sell some of his land or hand it over to her.

I thought the failure of Rodney Steemsra to respect and honour Tom Lyon's legal right to graze his cattle on that piece of land until the following March and the spiteful and petty way he shut off the water supply to that land was unreasonable and unjust and a nasty act of deliberate sabotage. Tom was allowed to be upset and offended. He did not deserve to be slaughtered like the rabbits Rodney had previously shot and apparently knew on sight were dead. Did no-one teach him about checking for faint signs of life and CPR and dialling 911. That might have been at least some sign of remorse. Instead, he disposed of Tom's body in a contemptible way that must have been unbelievably distressing to his widow and family and then set about disposing of all the other evidence of his crime in a cold and heartless manner. The only person Rodney was sorry for was himself. I think he should should have had a much longer sentence.

Most of the time defense lawyers make me so mad. Why try to defend a murderer? He’s guilty full stop
@1bonnierussell8 күн бұрын
Because everyone has a right to a fair trial. Problem is public defenders are generally, not so great. Rich guys hire good defense attorneys.

No self respecting farmer cuts off the water for the stock. Just like no decent man drags a human being behind a truck. Those actions alone are spineless, but shooting an unarmed man is outright cowardice.

he dragged the victim behind his car for a mile-- that says it all

I knew when Heamsta confessed on the night of the murder that he would be coached by his lawyers, and change his story to self-defense. Pretty predictable.
@tcttvradio Жыл бұрын
It wasn’t self defense at all. You can hear him lying over and over. What a nut. If it was self defense he wouldn’t have needed a reason to lie initially and then disparage the victim. Rodney is disgusting.

Just watched this episode. I am happy Mrs. Lyons took him to civil court and won. The win won’t bring Tom back, but hopefully it puts a financial burden on Rodney.

Wait, how is getting out of a vehicle, retrieving your gun and shooting an unharmed man, who allegedly “dared you to shoot him”, self defense??? If he was so afraid of the man, that he started carrying a gun, why would you get out of your car to face off with him alone in the dark? Just utter nonsense.

Being shoved around is taunting, but then the words "You don't have the balls to pull the trigger" could induce most men to do such an act ... murder in affect!
@1bonnierussell8 күн бұрын
Except he wasn't shoved. Also, consider that men are so fragile. Their egos are dicey.

When caught -- voices change, suddenly become fearful, emotional and acting out, defenseless, aggrieved and victimized -- then went on to hide the body of the one he killed. Yeah so much of self defense. And oh yeah I almost forgot… he shot him between the eye.

He’s guilty AF. The emotions were for getting caught. No remorse for his actions just how his life would be disrupted. You don’t cut off water supply to live animals.

Premeditation can occur seconds before a murder.He grabbed his gun ,not to scare him but to shoot him.His on statement of "He backed away" proves he was not in immediate danger and abuse of a corpse should have been added.There is no justice here and this killer is free to enjoy many holidays with his family
