The utter simplicity of his goal but the willingness he wants to have to achieve it so interesting that I low key want to see him develop more even if he will he eventually stopped. After all he did something that I feel like a lot people in a post all might society hasn’t done yet: accept reality and get stronger for himself instead of waiting for a savior.

@@mouses_HK There are still plenty of ways his character could go. Perhaps the power will go to his head and his personal development regresses. Perhaps he grows closer with his subordinates, and thus crazier as he loses them. Perhaps he gains the traits Oceaniz mentioned he lacked at 35:23 and turns the PLF into a proper revolutionary group, and he a proper savior. Perhaps he conquerors japan and turns out to be pretty good at it, a very benevolent evil overlord, and the conflict sheds it's black & white basis of "good vs evil" to become a battle of ideologies. Or perhaps he could even zig-zag a bit, becoming a proper leader of a country and bettering it, but then deciding to move onto conquering the entire world that's still on the same BS he conquered japan for, and thus Deku must be the hero to save the world. There are plenty of directions his character could go, is what I'm saying. Directions that aren't limited to, but definitely include, becoming even more of an ultimate evil.

So really, it just depends on if anyone recovered the body. (For God's sake, somebody have recovered the body. We got like 20 new villain faces this arc that've barely done anything, surely somebody wants to endear themselves to the audience.)

I love to see Twice back, but I just do not seeing it happening. For one thing, it would take away from the emotional impact of his death. Also why would Compress keep the arm of Kai? The way I determined deku and shigaraki's desires for society was how they would view endeavor's past actions. If shiggy, the guy who was abused by his father and killed him knew what endeavor had done, I personally feel like he would be far more ruthless towards him, and wouldn't see any hope of redemption for him, because believing so would naturally contradict his own beliefs. Deku on the other hand, already knows what endeavor has done but still seeks to learn from him, simply because deku still finds salvagable aspects in him because he attempts to atone for his actions, and his importance to the current state of society. TL;DR deku is glass half full about society, shiggy is glass must be destroyed and a new one with fresher juice must be made but not by me lol

Shiggy would consider Endeavour to be the perfect encapsulation of the Hero society, one that cares only about himself and uses and abuses those around him to get what he wants. And he views All Might as the one who facilitates this by protecting the filthy world with a thin plastic sheen to hide the truth and allow people to go about life not accepting responsibility for the world they live in. Deku sees Endeavour as someone who tries hard to save people and be the best at it, while making some rather big errors in judgement along the way. I love how writers are beginning to realize that the power of friendship can be used by the bad guys too. I think the phantom troupe started that, but I love seeing how all of the league of villains genuinely care about each other. Despite being weaker than all of them, they are respect spinner, and the only one who ever puts him down for his lack of power is himself. Twice risked his sanity to save his friend Toga, and Toga and the others were elated to see that he had grown so much and they were all happy for him. It makes the villains so much scarier and so much more fun to watch if they actually give a crap about the people around them, because then there’s stakes for them as well.
@jazzmazz92142 жыл бұрын
They've realized this since forever. There are examples of villains using the power of friendship since at least the early 90's. In Dragonquest Adventures of Dai, Hadlar is a villain that goes from a backstabbing piece of crap who wants nothing but power to a guy who literally stakes his final blow in a duel to death with the main protagonist on the unfulfilled wished of his fallen subordinates, not for the sake of power, but to see how far he could push himself as an individual.

I find most characters are defined by their quirks, Shigaraki's quirk is a destructive quirk, and therefore he has a need to destroy. So when thinking about All for One, applying this same reasoning, I learn that if we had to analyze All for One by his quirk, we'd see two big things. Greed and boredom. His quirk makes him greedy for the sake of being greedy, but since he has everything, he's unable to satisfy or sustain this greed, therefore he's driven by his boredom more than almost everything else. That's literally all he's doing, he's fighting boredom. He has no reason to want to mercilessly destroy Nana's legacy, she's just a single One for All user of many. However, he's bored, so for him "Just because" is a good enough reason.

And it fits. I mean, as a kid, just like his brother, he loved being a spectator or audience to the stories of good and evil in the form of manga/comics. Once he got his power, he was able to enforce his own ideal unto the world, that of the demon king who ruled above all and leads the story. Even if he fails to possess Shigaraki, I believe he’s completely satisfied and ecstatic to witness the birth of a new world similar to the one he grew up reading from the comfort of his confinement; though, he’s not truly confined as you can’t imprison someone who’s already free in spirit. Either way, he wins.

When you finally mentioned that first line - all men are not created equal - I got chills and tears. Finally, finally someone talks about how important this is. How Stain is the fist one who truly embodies this, and then Shigaraki learns this from him AND from his reflection: Midoriya. I love it. Also an added point that about the segment about how Shigaraki was not saved - it's even ILLEGAL to use your quirk unless you have a licence in this world. This means that all of the people who don't help him are scared that they will end up in prison by helping this child if they need to use their quirk to do this. Shigaraki winning over the Liberation Front is so important to me for this reason, as well as the Gentle arc. What The Liberation Front fight against is what CREATED Shigaraki. And what created Gentle is what could have happened to any of those people who met Tenko that day, had they helped, and what they decided to avoid.

Absolute masterpiece. This is basically the Mr.Morj equivalent of MHA. Izuku vs Tomura is not just a good vs. bad, it is a clash of ideals. Their clash will create a new society. I really want Tomura to break down and crumble what the word “hero” and “villain”. So much so that it’s use must be retired entirely. Izuku will see things from Tomura’s perspective. Right now he just views him as evil, a bad guy. What he doesn’t know that Tomura didn’t choose this life. He was born into it, his quirk is only a representation of who he is as a person. His personality is founded upon that. Izuku will relate to Shigaraki, for he once was an outsider. He was born quirkless, an outsider looking in. This is even more evident when you see Midoriya as a child watching All Might from his computer. Then when he first witness a hero situation (the shit that happens in the beginning I don’t remember) and chooses to act on it, then is he thrusted into the hero life. This parallels Tomura’s upbringing as he was not wanted by anyone and then thrusted into the villain life when All for One took him in. Izuku will realize that the once idolized and remarkable hero society is not sustainable. That this “utopia” of a world has flaws. That it was this hero society that birth Shigaraki in the first place. I’m assuming this is when the realization comes toward Izuku and the reader. Also I just wanted to mention that anyone living in the U.S. can relate to this given the recent events regarding the state of African Americans. BTW if none of this happens I will be very disappointed. This kind of non-diegetic story telling is the shit that I live for in manga. Which is why I love watching videos like this, and Mr.Morj in general. (Mr.Morj is a master analyst of One Piece for anyone wondering)

What I love about current HeroAca is how it became through build-up into a tangled web of complex characters with their own stories and struggles but all interconnected serving the greater themes of the story. Endeavor is another example and I cannot wait to see where his arc goes, and I would love to see you doing a video on him once his story is more or less complete. Shigaraki is the product of the eternal cycle of influence good and evil have on each other but also of a complacient society that relegated all of its problems into their spandex saviors, without taking any personal responsibility for them. The term "victim of society" is often thrown around to justify the unjustifiable but it is neccessary to ask ourselves the hard questions and wonder how much are we responsible for our monsters. This series is more thematically layered than people give it credit for and so it pains me when they bash it. This essay IMO is a masterpiece.

The parallelism and thematic significance contrasting Shigaraki with Eri should not be forgotten either. Even down to their character design-white hair. For Eri, someone with a quirk as destructive as Shigaraki, and having been told by others of her inherent destructive nature, was saved because someone-a single person-had reached out to her. But Shigaraki was never offered this option until AFO did so. If we combine this with the recent reveal of Hawks’ backstory, we see that he had every opportunity and the perfect circumstance to turn down a path of villainy, yet it was the single circumstance of being saved (albeit by Endeavor), being encouraged by his mother to strive to embody the strength of that doll she gave him, and eventually saving others with that resolve that changed his life forever. It’s just so incredibly beautiful how so many character and story arcs weave together in the narrative, and you did an incredible job with this video.

I can see how a lot of people are complaining how Shiggy's still basically a manchild who has everything handed to him, but in my opinion, that's what makes him terrifying. Imagine giving a kid with some malicious intent a gun with unlimited ammo. i think my favourite subtle thematic element is that, starting in the flashback in the overhaul arc where shigaraki dispatches the league, horikoshi started drawing shigaraki as if his hair is glowing a soft, pale white. historically, this type of imagery would be called "a glory", or "the glory". asian cultures usually represent it as golden light or an aura of fire around the head and shoulders, while europeans went with a solar disc behind the person's head, as if they were illuminated by some star within their own mind. the tradition of the glory has since evolved into a new form though. we call it a halo. shigaraki, beatific with his hair glowing a soft white and a gentle smile on his face, reaching out to you to draw you up to his level, telling you he trusts you and will protect what you love. and the moment you take his hand, you die, screaming in agony.
@js666134 жыл бұрын
Thing is though, that physical trait is not uncommon. Griffith from Berserk is light haired. Shougo Makashima from Psycho pass is light haired. The first true antagonistic group in BC is almost entirely light haired, especially its not-entirely-human individuals. I mean, true, you never said it was a thing unique to BNHA, and that doesn't take away from the beautiful irony of that part of his design... I just figured I might mention that anime seems to do that often. Along with some Western fiction. I mean, Nyra, from Legends of the Guardians: Owls of Ga'Hoole is a white owl, just with red markings. Grindelwald from Fantastic Beasts and Were to Find them: Crimes of Grindelwald is light haired. Shen from Kung Fu Panda 2 is a white peafowl. They all gather followers and they're not above causing suffering to build a certain society.

As sad as it is, with oceaniz’s most recent video on how mha’s story has fallen apart, I can’t help but imagine clown music playing in the background when he talks about how this was just “the middle point of the story”, like there’s no way he could’ve foreseen that but it’s still hilarious how mha seemed determined to shred its own dignity to pieces the moment it hit its peak

@@nv5116 right? They all have a reason to be who they are now. Twice has personality issues and since most people don't accept mentally unstable people, he chose the LOV who accepted him as a teammate. Big Sis Magne, as you know, is a trans woman I think. And none of the villains pronounced her as a he (except for Chisaki's slaves) This really made me like the villains over some heroes. I also really hope that they might change in a good way and maybe get even with heroes? Which seems really impossible but, have you seen the theory video that Shigaraki would kill AFO after hearing Nana's story, All Might apologising him and learn that they are connected? God it really hypes me

Generally, when Nux Taku criticizes anything, he does it as an elitist asshole who thinks that if it's not one piece, it's trash. Masked man just went along with him for the views. A better KZbinr to watch is gigguk, because he has good things to say about everything, and is almost always right

This video is without a doubt beautiful. It has to be one of my favorite analyses and explanations to a character. After reading the manga, Shiggy hands down became my favorite character and your video just reminded me why and made me love his character even more. I think BNHA is beautifully written and am obsessed with the symbolism and parallelism that you have talked about. Ironically, I was like mentally working an OC for BNHA- and when I work on OCs, despite my crush on Iida, focus a lot on how they can help the plot, what they could represent on an alternative path and how they help characters grow. Your video really helped me put that character in a whole new perspective and just made me feel so excited. The OC I made is supposed to represent the third social stereotype in hero society: a civilian. Midoryia is the Hero- the good guy who always does what’s right, and leaves positive impacts on everyone he meets and can understand why bad guys end up the way he is. Shigariki is our monster- a result of all the flaws of society as you have mentioned who impacts people in a totally different way. The OC is the civilian- or in this case a teenage girl who wants to leave a lasting change on the world but due to being quirkless knows she can only do it by pursuing a career in a political aspect. This character isn’t blind to the flaws in society but her take on the opening line “All men were not created equal” is different. She believes all men were created equal, but that all men were taught to not treat others as equal. She never wanted to be a hero, but she always wanted to make change and change the world. Her way of changing society is a much more ‘American’ political advocating way in terms of her social reform project labeled “The Renaissance Project”. A big part of her belief system is that there is a balance in the world- you can’t have destruction without creation and that’s what makes it so beautiful but *spoilers for manga* the loss of civilian death is pointless, in terms of what Shiggy is doing. She agrees with both Midoryia and Shiggy. With what you said about the league and how they could be revolutionaries but their pain and suffering prevents them from doing so is kinda exactly what this character is. She was bullied for being quirkless but like Midoryia had this strong sense of hope and determination and stable family support. She knows pain and suffering but knows she shouldn’t let her control it and an issue she is concerned about is the fact that both Shiggy and Midoryia are technically puppets to the ridiculous brother feud between AFO/OFA. Because I couldn’t help myself, her character came to me from the mysteries of OFA and the darkness it may hold. And I wondered in some bizarre scenario where OFA had a kid and that kid had a kid and so on until we got this character. This character is blood linked to AFO/OFA but separated from the conflict between them. I never realized the parallel I made when I imagined her introduction scene: She’s walking down the street on the phone, on her way home from her internship at a quirk therapy base. As she is walking home she hears crying and notices it coming from a little boy in the alleyway who has a quirk he’s afraid of. It’s a destructive quirk that has unintentionally hurt his family so he felt like he had to run away. The girl, because she is educated on quirk therapy and works toward ways to fix it and improve it, manages to calm him down, give him gloves and then smiles, offering him her hand. I never realized that when imaging this scene it is a similar and almost direct play out to how AFO took Shiggy in, and how the irony is that here is someone who is directly related to AFO, saving a kid like Tenko, but with different intentions than AFO. She just wants to help him. I also realized the parallels between Shiggy and Eri and their meetings with their saviors- both in an alley way with two young people scared and ending up idolizing the people who saved them. This character, in a sense, represents mortality. She is empathic and compassionate- a little naive, but she has this anger and hate and passion mixed with it. She believes the labels ‘heroes’ and ‘villains’ are stupid because at the end of the day we are all human and none of us can achieve perfection or pure evilness. She also takes note on AFO’s god complex and how because he gained some form of immorality he stopped viewing himself as human or mortal. I know the talk of My OC probably wasn’t that interesting or relevant but I just wanted to share it because your video helped me understand how to make her character better- I probably won’t do anything with her but I do think it’s important to keep on expanding the skill of writing complex and real characters. This video gave me chills and it’s amazing and inspiring how well written BNHA is. And watching this will help me a lot on understanding my essay topic on Monday so thank you 😂

Damn, I would definitely read if you made a fanfiction including this character. I love how you designed the character's personality with the ideals of the two sides, and she isn't any of them. I wish I had a character developing talent like yours. The way you made the story similar to Tenko's/Tomura's but in a good way, was really interesting and made me say "damn what if Tenko got help?" *Manga Spoilers* Also I saw a theory where it says that Shigaraki will kill AFO after hearing about Nana's death. In the video they said, All Might would apologise to Shigaraki for not noticing him anytime sooner before he dies. Shigaraki learns that Nana Shimura was killed by his own master, AFO and the man he wanted to kill was emotionally related to his grandma. This gave me hope that Shigaraki wouldn't end it all with killing everybody. But would be the one ending the one who started it all. So that maybe he doesn't end up killing everybody, just leaving as the strongest character. Sorry this had Manga spoilers around chapter 290

@@sketchysim5351 1. I’ve been thinking of making a legit fanfic, but signing up for sites is hard lol, and thanks for the support. When making my characters and stories I always try to aim for something that will get other people to think. And honestly, Shiggy will kill AFO, if AFO, the quirk, doesn’t kill him first. He clearly doesn’t realize the fact that AFO had Nana’s hand after he killed her years prior to finding Tenko is really suspicious and raises the question if AFO was planning it the whole time. As long as he has AFO, Shiggy can never truly be free. And dw about spoilers I’ve been reading the manga and anticipating leaks/ chapter releases for a while!

18:35 - One thing I think people may have missed, that cape belongs to X-Less the poor guy who was left by Mic to take care of Tomura, and that's a big fat "fu** you" to that time Mirio said "heroes wear capes to cover a child in need" only in this case, the child who was in need is the one wearing the cape, the cape that belonged to someone who's duty was to cover a child in need with his cape.
