I don't think the Persona games have enough playable characters for a gacha, so the gacha pool would have to consist of the persona. However, there is already Shin Megami Tensei Dx2, which uses SMT demons as its gacha pool, which contains most of the persona. It would be odd to release another gacha with pretty much the same gacha pool. Most persona fans aren't very interested or attached to the demons and most lack any "waifu" potential, so I don't think they would get much revenue either.

throughout the whole series you have about 30 characters. Include social links and antagonists and you can easily crack 50. It's not impossible

Nah there are absolutely tons lol, literally just party members already gets you like 50 and that's before confidants, side characters, villains, etc, and all of that is before the alt costumes that make up a bulk of gacha drops.

Considering Perfect World's track record, I think it may have to do with the game quality. I tried ToF which is said to be genshin killer but it fell flat. Just a mediocre game with bad story & lack of polish. Maybe the game's not good enough so ATLUS is not approving it.

I think a persona gacha game is quite intriguing. I can see it having a premise where you the player wake amnesiac in the velvet room and maybe in the abyss where door-kun is and you have to fend off shadows attempting to crossover from broken realms? Thus giving you the ability to summon all the characters+personas from each game. Many gacha games have different types of banners to pull on so character and persona banners seems doable running somewhat like Q. With the way the gaming world is changing wonder if they'll try to bring this back

Without Atlus' name, it's not a Persona game. I'm guessing it was originally intended as a collaboration but Atlus pulled out for whatever reason and they had the artists file off all the serial numbers to produce an original IP. I guess we'll never actually know the truth, though.

disregarding the statement Perfect World Games gave to Daniel Ahmad, I’d say Ahmad is extremely trustworthy as he’s a professional who works in the games industry and (from what I recall) analyzes data within the Chinese games market specifically. so less of a specualative insider IMO. but yeah, that statement Perfect World gave him….I personally believe it was official, but something must’ve fell through in their relationship with Atlus. the inconsistency of world elements in the trailer certainly didn’t help either. also, thanks for making this video! this “game” has been something I’ve always wondered about as well, and last year I had noticed P5 getting more exposure in China (there was a big streamed event featuring diff games where P5 had a live music performance feat. Lyn), so I thought it only seemed appropriate for a mobile game to debut there.

I do not think that the anniversary has been as bad as people are saying, but I am upset that it took half-a-year for Altus to bother providing merchandise and events to Western audiences, with events even just being for Americans.

The console ports were amazing news and will do wonders for the franchise’s growth, which every fan should be happy about since it’ll only mean more to come in the future, but at the same time if you’ve already played all the games then the whole anniversary was basically just merch being peddled at you.

My guess on all of this is that Perfect World tried for making a P5 mobile game, but the deal fell through, and they made an attempt to make it completely free of pre-existing IP but failed. Perfect World isn't exactly a fly-by-night operation, they'd have much more to lose than gain by doing some blatant copyright infringement.

This game could just be a Chinese exclusive persona game that may introduce more of the Chinese people/netizens to the Persona franchise. Then if it hits big in China, it may get a global release. I believe P5 is available in China, it’s just that I doubt many of them actually played or is interested in the Persona franchise.Hell I don’t even think majority of the Chinese gamers are console gamers, most either play on pc or mobile. But I do hope this game does gets announced or released globally. I would love to have a persona5 mobile game Edit: I even checked the Chinese Google (Baidu, not to be mistaken with Beidou from GI) and there it’s radio silent there as well since April of 2021. So I think Perfect World game must’ve scrapped it or left it on the side to work on other projects, like ToF or OPM Gacha. Edit 2: Seems like Chinese netizens were equally as cautiously interested as you are, some were disappointed, some were impressed.

I wouldn't be impressed if this was a rip-off. Perfect World Games has stolen many things for their latest game, Tower of Fantasy. For example, in one of the game's PVs it can be seen the 3rd Sacred Relic, a weapon from Honkai Impact 3rd. They also stole an entire animation for one of their ADs, and many other things a lot of users have been pointing out. Even chinese players know this, giving the game the nickname of ToT (Tower of Theft). Sadly, this is really common in chinese games.

The best possible mobile game for atlas to make about persona would have to be a spin off of fire emblem heroes, with them investigating the palaces in a similar strategic manner. GACHA wouldn’t work without using the personas, which people aren’t generally attached to, and most other formats wouldn’t be realistic to tie in to the series.

Persona 5 Royale coming out on PC dead last isn't an accident. It was always going to come, the mountain of money Persona 4 Golden unexpectedly made them on Steam ensured that. Now that it's out on PC means that they're finally done with it, and can begin early marketing for Persona 6 next year. They have internal discussions about ideas all the time: mmos, gacha games etc. They survey about it a lot. At the end of the day their expertise only covers so much and they're risk adverse as all heck. Remember SMT Imagine? Never really became super popular, and that thing cost $0 to play. You can say that its quality was low, and sure maybe. Putting more work into it may pay off. Or it'd be a waste of cash. No way to tell until you make the stupid thing. Making good gacha games is almost impossible for established people like Atlus to do, though. Yeah, they could make something super high quality, the best Persona game of all time no question. And they'd be competing against themselves if they did it. In a genre where a successful game is supposed to last forever. Human ego being what it is, there would be very few people inside the company that'd want it to be successful. Very little opportunity to stand out. So, yet another minimum effort menu game with no RPG walking around segments. If there's OC's, they won't be as cool or have as good of art as the real games have.

While there isn't a persona mobile game, there already is SMT mobile game, Shin Megami Tensei Liberation Dx2. And searching for persona mobile games, you'll see Atlus did attempt to make mobile games way back for P3. Obviously things didn't work well since they didn't try again for P4. They probably couldn't get social links to work well in mobile format and decided to market the next mobile game as an SMT game. Also why would Atlus create/license a Persona mobile game and not market it as such? Given Atlus naming convention, they would named it P5M or something. And they had trademarked P5M.
