Stunning photography. Thank you! Many cyclists avoid the tertiary packed and loose gravel roads. I seek them out. Calls to mind a primitive sign I once encountered in a remote rural area "Choose the right rut because you'll be in it for the next 5 miles"

This tip on looping your tent pole through your wheel is absolute gold! I met a rider on my second tour that was telling me the story of how he woke up early in the morning while camping on the beach to find his bike gone and the guy that was stealing it was 100 yards away pushing it through the sand. He sprinted and caught him and there was minimal altercation but the story has stuck with me through thousands of miles of touring. Your trick seems like the perfect security measure.

Never really believed I would say this one day but the mighty IOHAN has got competition on his hands now - the fact you're doing it on a fully loaded touring bike is crazy - the" gay alpaca" thing and "shout-out to mining" sequences were hilarious. KOGA must be stoked the way you are testing their bike while filming it...:-)......BUT - those steep cliff-drops, though - not so close Ally, for cryin' out loud....:-)

Terrific as usual without being usual at all. Always a unique adventure and a singular eye for beauty. The bridge at 6:50. Whaaat? Are you crazy my brother? You’re in the middle of nowhere. One wrong turn and... 2 second breathtaking shot at 10:00. Once again demonstrating your photographer’s eye. How far between restock opportunities on the divide? The video makes it seem your out in the wild for days but you must restock food and water. (Streams everywhere abound. How does the mountain water taste? Do you purify or trust it to be safe?) How many days food supply do you carry? What food do you carry?
@Cyclingabout6 жыл бұрын
I scoped the line on that bridge to work out where every dislodged nail and plank was! Then committed. 👌🏼 You can find food practically every day on this route as there are mining settlements every 50-80km. The longest I went was 1.5-2 days without a shop. Water was all sourced near the top of the passes so that it could be contaminated by animals or mining operations. I think I used my filter only a handful of times when I was in towns. Food - fruit and veg when I can, bread, biscuits, lentils, oats, pasta, dried fruit... I only eat plants, and that's been totally fine in Peru provided I prepare my own stuff.
@jamesporter56306 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the reply.

One of the most inspiring cycling/touring/travelling videos ever. Having been to those mountains before I can fully appreciate how impressive and constantly riveting they are. I wish I had the bike with me. Too bad you were in Huascaran and Huayhuash at the wettest time of the year probably, those mountains left a deep mark in my heart. There are some MTB trails/loops of the area, a book written by some English and/or German, did you consider any of that or you just went for the traditional hiking trails?
@Cyclingabout6 жыл бұрын
I just looked at the gradients of the trails I wanted to ride and made sure they weren't too steep! Most of the MTB trails/loops I've seen don't get close enough to the snowy peaks for my liking. I've just done another 6 days in the Huascaran and had a LOT less rain this time. 👌🏼
