The scenes through out this film are National Geographic worthy. Spectacular!!! Thank goodness you were able to save as much video as you did despite the damaged camera. Furthermore, to have the presence of mind to film your crash scene and the villagers coming to your aid- wow, just wow. Keep mending Alee and here's to stronger trails beneath your wheels from here on out. Sending positive energy your way from Taiwan.

In mid-Summer of 1977, I toured the Pacific Northwest by bicycle, and one of my most perilous experiences was almost falling off a cliff on the side of highway 14 east of Home Valley somewhere, which since then has been improved and I've not been able to nail down the location again. The situation was a low area between two high-points on the rode. I was riding east, so I was on the cliff side. The road was only paved on the lanes, and the shoulder on the cliff side was narrow and sand. At the top of the West hill, I stopped to rest and calculated the segment. Before I proceeded I listened for any sounds of vehicles. There were none. I rode down the hill as fast as I could but halfway down a truck appeared in the on coming lane, and then another from behind me. The one behind me turned out to be one of those Oregon three trailer jobs which I think even back then was illegal in Washington state. Oh well. At the bottom of the segment, to avoid getting run over, I bunny hopped onto the sand shoulder, inches from the cliffside, and just rolled as the three-trailer combination passed me, and the oncoming passed it on the other side. I held the bike as stiff and straight as possible, and just as the truck finished passing, I skidded and fell into the lane. I hit my chin pretty bad, but at the time I had a decent but lopsided beard (I was just 18, and it was not coming in symmetric yet). I quickly got back up and got to the side. I looked down. I could have fallen hundreds of feet. But, I didn't.

I had a similar accident this summer while crossing the Alps with my mountainbike. Luckily I was able to grab something after sliding down for 10 meters. Just before I was about to drop off a cliff, 20-30m above the ground. I got away with just some scratches, but I still wonder how bad it would have been falling down the cliff. Seeing this gives me anxiety, so it's good that you survived and recover quite well. I wish you all the luck for you future rides! Stay safe and keep pedaling :)

Brings a tear to the eye. Can't tell you how many times I've been in third world countries or more primitive and remote parts of the world and under similar circumstances, have been helped immediately by hordes of locals who spend their time, give you food, water, medical products and drive you to where you need to be then hang around to translate and ensure you're ok at the end of it all. Then at home in Australia I feel like the general response is for someone to hold out a phone and film you before finally making a phone call and setting off on their way. These are people who you'll never forget as long as you live and truly connect to as human beings. Glad you got out ok mate.

I been watching videos of bicycles n related stuff and seen most of you bicycle reviews but this is the first time I caught your cycling adventures. I just did a Bikepacking adventure on Thailand Highest Mountains couple weeks ago and what got me was not the cycling on my *One Speed Wander* bicycle..... but the 70% of pushing it uphill! Your video reminds me of the tiredness you had to go thru, which is worst than mine....RESPECT!!! Lastly, I hope you won’t mind me sharing this video on my Facebook page.... thank you =)

Cheers. I'm pretty stoked I made it out of that one without serious injuries, I could still be in that ravine right now with a broken back!

You're taking a fully loaded touring bike to trails I wouldn't do on a mountain bike and that would give me pause to even do on foot... You are insane. Good to hear you and most of your stuff survived the landslide. A stream off the path in the middle of nowhere before heavy rain is a terrible place to break a leg or spine.

Lovely scenery! But i hope you will also consider more footage from the camping (preparing meals, going out of the tent in the morning etc. ). Its such a big part of touring and gives a whole new dimension.

I live 30+ miles out of Glac. Nat'l Park MT, USA. After 50+ years climbing in GNP, my sincere sympathies. You're blessed that 100 FT was all that happened. Great videos and I'm glad you are able to continue on.

Hi Alee, it is a know situation for me with an incident on the way. I felt ones in Norway in my case a helicopter was involved. I also had a concussion and couldn't really remember any details. It is great that you feel better now! Peru looks awasome, perhaps we have to start plannin to visit it. Thanks for videos, take care.

As a Peruvian myself I've always wanted to cycle there but I've never been able to because every bike that would hold up to it are just too expensive for most peruvians to afford :(

There's a way around this, you'll just need to pack super light! Bring only what you need for sleeping: an emergency bivvy, a foam mat and a sleeping bag. Wear just one set of clothes. Don't bring any cooking gear, instead just eat uncooked food (bread, avocado, cereal, biscuits, snacks etc). Stay in hostels and eat in restaurants when you can. If you can get your gear under 10kg (very doable with a small budget), even cheap mountain bikes will be fine for these adventures!
