I love this: "Ever since I was a child, I have dreamed of her! Now people are born for many things Gerard, I was born to live, if you call this living, down here.But until now I have never known quite why. I was born so she could save me, well that's what she's done. She is the reason I was born. I love her, Gerard, and I believe in time, with any luck, she will learn to love me."

I think Erik holds the same belief as his mother: that singing is something private, like love. We only see Erik sing to Chrisitne.
@EmilyGloeggler798416 жыл бұрын
Actually, according to IMDB - Teri Polo had earlier taken 12 years worth of ballet lessons. So she actually was adept in that section of the movie. However, as she couldn't sing opera, she and Charles Dance (who also couldn't sing opera), had to spend hours learning to mime to the opera arias and trios. And these were later dubbed in with actual opera singer's voices.

@Greya77 The ''mommy issues'' also make me a bit uncomfortable...But then I'm thinking: Well, Erik knew his mother loved him so much despite how he looked, to him, she was an angel...Then he hears Christine, and she reminds him of his mother.The only person who ever loved him and kissed his face...So he believes Christine must love him too, not as his mother per se, but just for the love hes desparate for all his life.That a woman can look at him and smile....

The song Christine sings at the bistro is "Par le rang et par l'opulence" from the opera Le Fille du Régiment.

Erik never told her to put on the white dress. I think she saw the portrait of Erik's mother thinking it was a portrait of herself, saw the matching dress on the model beside it, and thought it was a message for her to wear it (edit: maybe thinking the dress was made for her, as was the portrait). You can see this look on her face a little when Gerard says the woman in the painting is Erik's mother. She has this "oh" look in her eyes.

This (the Kopit version) was made into a musical by Maury Yeston. It is quite good, any Phantom Phan would love it! :)
a little strange how Christine looks exactly like Erik's mother.

I love this movie and the musical by Yeston and Kopit. It/ they are amazing. I'm a true phan and I think I've nearly seen all of the versions of POTO but I like this one the most because of the storyline. I love Andrew Lloyd Webber's a lot too but I think this has to be the best.

this is so unbelieveable, i first saw poto 2004, and than love never dies. i researched some thing about it and soon i found out about all kind of opera things, about a website that has to do with opera, and than that poto might have been real, christine might have been christina nilsson, and i don't know what i all have found out so far about poto, but my heart was already throbbing with sorrow when i saw how love never dies ended, but now, it's more alivethen it ever whas before!

The one where her name is Christine Day is in the 1989 slasher film. Instead of it being set in Paris, it was set in London and Christine Day was an American opera singer for the London Opera House. That was also (I think) the only adaptation where Erik actually had a last name.
@catherineehlers81153 жыл бұрын
Actually in the 1943 version Erik’s last name (well, actually his first name in that version was Erique) was Claudin. And the 1962 Phantom was “Professor Petrie” (they didn’t give that version a first name). As far as this Phantom, I suppose he could be called Erik Carriere (though technically since his parents weren’t married his last name should be Belladova’s-whatever that was....)
