This combined two things I really love but never would have thought be together

I like how the fighting styles reflect the characters. Choreography is acting too.

Two things I loved: - The Phantom pulling the 'disappearing act' added a sense of creepiness, with Raoul growing from fearful, to weary, to plain unimpressed by it as the Phantom kept doing it over and over. - Raoul winning the fight only for the Phantom to create distance and escape rather than some stupid sparing his life because Christine feels bad. Like, he's a mad genius who now knows he can beat you in a fair(ish) fight; of course he's never going to engage in one with you again and instead use his Looney Tune traps on you, you dolt!

I loved the cinematography! The way the phantom kept disappearing really added to his mystical vibe. I wonder how he got so good at sword fighting without having anyone to train with 🤔

He clearly trained with the horse

In the book, he had trained to be a professional assassin in Persia I think. He quite a career behind him before the Opera House which he apparently designed so he felt a stake in its ownership hence why he wanted payment and that one box free

Spectacular! Fusing storytelling with realistic fight choreography is something I wish all productions did

I especially loved that elbow push at 3:27 (that's usually my go-to move) and the look of exasperation, when the Phantom disappeared for the last time. The number of ways the villain could come in and out and then back in from different direction was just...un-phantom-able, I guess.

I missed the moment of the premier itself because of things, but wow. The camera work was excellent, limited space made for some rough transitions but the rough transitions made it feel like we the observer were in fact present in the catwalks. The sound editing was done wonderfully. I'm sure that space was full of all sorts of unfortunate echoes. The phantom doing phantom things brings fond memories of my own time backstage in highschool and college. I lived in the catwalks, I had a penchant for spooking directors and producers (and the principal of my highschool) by suddenly appearing on the far side of the theater from where they had last seen me. I definitely did some maneuvers that would make a safety inspector sweat, but it was worth it for the payoff. I don't know what theater let you do this, but one hopes you get the opportunity to recreate swordplay scenes from other great works.

This is awesome! A sword duel between Raoul and the Phantom fits in with the story perfectly! This must have been a hell of a lot of fun to do! Sidenote, but I've had Star Wars on the brain a lot lately, and for some reason, I swore I at first read the thumbnail caption as saying that this was going to be a lightsaber duel between them! I clicked on this at first to see how the hell that was pulled off! A sword fight, I can definitely see...but a lightsaber duel? Not so much! 🤣

Decided to write a new comment, because this time, it comes from a perspective of having read the original novel. On one hand, quite unfortunately so, this fight never happenned. Raoul and Phantom only met thrice in the novel, and only one of them could be considered a "fight": Raoul chases Phantom on the cemetary, catches up, grabs him, sees his face (far more ghastly than the one displayed here), faints, and that was the end of it. And, as I have mentioned in brackets, Phantom has a literal skullface, thanks to his inborn deformities, whereas here, he looks more normal, akin to the some adaptations. These, and the fact Christine already knew the true identity of the Phantom, as they were going upwards together, are the only break-aways from the book. But the rest fits the book much better than I expected. The "web of bridges and ropes" beneath the roof, multiple niches, doors, hidden exits, and hollow spots that let Phantom escape unnoticed, even the way he moves! It literally came straight from the pages, especially, when Phantom slowly stalks Raoul, before they clash: that's precisely what he did, right before Christine told Raoul the real story. Heck, I was only able to spot Mr David moving at the background, only because I read the description of this scene and paid closer attention to the background in hopes of spotting "the shadow moving as they moved, stopping as they were stopping", and all. So all in all, maybe it is non-canon, but it's the most brilliant non-canon you'll ever get. Yet again, great job.

I feel the Italian dueling saber is vary swashbuckler. Thrusting, parrys, and binding from rapiers to light and heavy cuts from on foot saber. All together, I'd like to get my hand on one for my collection.

The last premier I was this hyped for was the premier of the gameplay trailer for Armored Core 6. And I'm an OG western Armored Core fan. Original playstation, played every game in the franchise except Verdict Day. I think I might, in this moment, be *more* hyped for this video than I am for the upcoming release of AC6.
