The “underpants” thing is actually a reference to the “strong men” at carnivals and whatnot. They wore the onesies and what appeared to be a dark pair of underwear on the outside of their “uniforms” in contrast to their lighter tights.
@adfnow62703 жыл бұрын
There's more to it than that tho.. something most people in modern times don't quite realize, is the actual reason for the outside shorts or trunks. A better term for them would be modesty shorts haha. The creators of these heros costume design intentions , where that the characters are wearing tights, like circus and strongman performers, but also already worn by BALLET artists and if you have every seen a ballet , you would understand why the trunks over the tights would make sense.. It's so we didn't have to look at the characters balls 😳

Love this movie! I grew up watching it! It's one of those 90's superhero films no one ever talks about. The trailer for the movie had the most memorable music by Jerry Goldsmith, which was then used in Judge Dredd and Lost In Space.

The Phantom character, history and stories are filled with great action, mysteries and various adventures. It is very interesting that Lee Falk's creation is commonly described as THE first masked comic-book hero, but have since the 1970's and up till modern days been A LOT more loved and respected in Scandinavia (Sweden, Norway, Danmark, Finland), Turkey, India and Australia before his own home country of creating in the U.S.A. So much that Lee Falk before he passed away lent most creation decisions to be made by Swedish/Danish "Egmont Publishing" to make sure The Phantom and his future will live on. And they have done a darn great job doing so. In the 90's and early 00's they published a spin-off series titled: "The Phantom Chronicles" where they explored past generations of Phantoms before the 36th one Kit Walker we all know. They where well written and explored lots of historical events in his history and where certain comic legends came from. LOVED THEM!!! Imagine if they could make a TV-series of these Phantom Chronicles - they would be epic and introduce a new generation of Phantom fans.

He is not forgotten in Sweden. When I was a kid the Phantom (or Fantomen) was one of the most popular comics, along side donald duck. I subscribed to the comic and got a new one in the mail every friday. Good times. The stories were great too. And the lineage of fantomens were cool to explore, called chronicles. Fantomen were like our version of Batman. Fantomen is Batman but stronger. Not a better detective or more skilled in martial arts, but he is definitely stronger. Like Batman he is a peak human. But Fantomen can knock out anyone with one punch and when someone hits him it's like hitting a wall. It is truly an amazing comic, also great side comics like Thorgal and Camelot 3000. I do wish they would make another movie about the phantom.

I read the Sunday comics at my Cherokee grandparent's house. My Pop was an 82nd Airborne paratrooper and moved all over the place. He and mom thought it best to keep me close to where I was most comfortable, near elders and friends I knew until I began going to school. They taught me to read when I was only 2 or 3 years old, and folks used to think thru were uneducated, not so. My grandfather was a refrigeration technician and worked for Sealtest Ice Cream, so I got to eat ice cream once a week thanks to him. I loved The Phantom and Mandrake the Magician the best. They were my favorites. I liked the Billy Zane Phantom movie a lot. Plus, I had gone to sniper school way back in the mid 1970s after enlisting. My grandfather had taught me to stalk, track, hunt, and shoot beginning when I was 8. He taught me long distance shooting when I turned 10. It turned out that I was a better shot than the rest of the guys in my boot camp because of him. His training also kept me alive in combat. Before anyone gets the wrong idea, back then being a sniper wasn't the cool MOS it is now. I had picked out a technical school to go to, but in its infinite wisdom the military decided to ship me off to sniper school. I protested, but it didn't matter. Back then, the other guys looked down on us. They called us cowards and other things I can't say here. So, no I was not thrilled. But, you do not own your body, you go where they tell you to go and do what they tell you to do, or else. When Billy Zane was in the 1st Sniper movie with Tom Berenger, his character was a jerk, but redeemed himself. I began to like him as an actor about then. I liked him even more when he played The Ghost Who Walks. I liked the flick and own it today. So, I've been reading The Phantom comics longer than most reading this have been alive, LMAO! I was also the first Native internet engineer in the world. Not bad for a breed Cherokee kid from a relatively poor family in the Appalachians. Ah well, I'm enjoying this video. Wado, or thanks in English for uploading this interesting video! 🪶🪶👍🏻

Like. Thanks. I first saw Phantom comics in my childhood in 1959 in Rangoon (Myanmar) exactly in "India Illustrated Weekly". He was the first superhero i got familiar, long before Superman and Batman. I was impressed and even draw a few pictures of Phamtom with color pencils. For instance, a picture influenced by the comics where Phantom throws thru the air villain Bruno, a bearded blond giant wearing leopard skins. I was (and still i am, naturally) neither a Burmese nor an Indian, but a European diplomat's son stationed there and I was taken to a local barber-shop. I still have a few issues of "India Illustrated Weekly" of that time stacked somewhere at home and maybe they contain some Phantom comics. But I am not sure. At almost 70 it is a hard task to burrow thru all that old stuff I inherited from my parents.

Impressed it was set as a period piece, not just modernized, what thrilled me was its opening title card, _For those who came in late_ as this was at the start of each new story in the daily comics: a story would run for several weeks, and properly conclude, the next day they would run the quick "For those who came in late" (a la "Previously on... the Phantom..."), reminder of his origins.

I read allot of old Phantom comics because a bunch of my uncles collected them as kids and kept them in huge binders. I always thought the lack of powers and wealth made him a true hero.

I remember very old comics my father used to buy for me from street stalls and the more recent Infantino's drawings: astonishing! I was fashinated by some episodes such as dealing with "Vultures" and the immortal Gladiator. Enjoyed 1996 movie but i can see why it underperformed at box offices: it tasted kind action comedy in an era of "serious" heroes and looked a B movie production. I know it was on purpose, a sort of revival of those "Jungle Movies" with a wrestler donning gorilla suit but non seemed to understand... May be a remake with darker tones would work nowadays.

I remember loving to watch the cartoon show as a kid. I see lots of potential from the movie though. I think you even forgot the live action mini series.

I wish this video touched on the Defenders of the Earth cartoon's version of Phantom having abnormal abilities/powers. A conversation about why the Defenders of the earth created a different version of Phantom having powers need to be in this review.

There is no other hero like the Pantom. His legends and hist universe is totally awesome. But he does has many super powers also like super strength of 100 Tigers, ability to speak with the animals and more

I’m a long time Phantom fan and I have a good collection of Phantom books. I really enjoyed the movie with Billy Zane and own the dvd. The Phantom is a really good character but unfortunately isn’t owned by DC or Marvel as far as being mainstream and maintaining popularity in the USA. But the Phantom has a good loyal following to this day. The Phantom is one of my all time favorites.

Phanthom 2040 is the Great grandson of the current phanthom.. His great Aunt Eloise is in the series. She constantly moaned about how she was better than her brother at everything but he got to be the phanthom and not her. Auntie had issues.
