If you look closely at 1:21 when Jimmy Stewart hiccups, you'll notice both the actors almost laugh. Stewart didn't tell anyone that he was going to hiccup and Cary Grant went with it and improvised the line "Excuse Me." Two acting pros doing what they do best

To act drunk is a big hint on how good you are as an actor and Jimmy Stewart is exceptional in this scene. This scene - and all the other appearances he has done during his amazing career - clarifies the fact that he is one of the greatest actors that ever lived, and most likely _the_ greatest. Rest in peace Jimmy, you shall never be forgotten.

I've seen a documentary about making this movie. Apperently the director was a little bit worried about this scene. Jimmy Stewart and Cary Grant convinced him to do the scene and improvise a few things. They both had to do their best not to laugh at some moments. But the director was thrill. Grant in an interview said he kept blowing the early takes because he was so enthralled with Stewart's performance he forgot to say this lines.. You can see Cary several times looking away after Stewart did something, trying not to laugh. It is no wonder Jimmy was nominated for an Oscar (and should have won IMO) for his performance as Elwood P. Dowd, a man who liked a drink in the best way possible, as a fanciful contributor to mankind.

I'm surprised to learn that Hollywood labeled James Stewart as "unattractive" and made the character he plays say "I'm not pretty." in many of his earlier movies. What were they even thinking, he is so handsome.
@dr.zahraasaad8644
@dr.zahraasaad8644 7 ай бұрын
Exactly. When I discovered him on screen for the first time, I was mesmerized by his looks, his fresh handsomness, his beautiful manly features and physique let alone his enormous talent. Then when I start reading about him I was surprised to find that the MGM studios' heads labeled him the "unusually usual Guy"!. I think they wanted to sell the overly sex appeal image rather than innocent manhood in a leading actor to guarantee the box office success of a movie. However, when James Stewart talent were used by the right directors he proved them wrong and surpassed their expectations. His type of manliness attitude and sweet innocent nature were very rare then and even now there is no one like him. I believe that he so was a head of his time in terms of artistic talent and physical appearance. Extremly attractive and innately gifted beyond any labels and categorizations.

2 of them should have been in a Alfred Hitchcock movie together since they both worked with Hitchcock on separate films. As a matter of fact, Jimmy Stewart was considered to play Roger thornhill in north by northwest but was rejected by Hitchcock because he was too old after doing vertigo a year before and also because Hitchcock wanted to work with Cary grant again after to catch a thief.
