There was one last general after Malvar who surrendered to the Americans. His name was Simeon Ola. He surrendered to the Americans on September 25, 1903. And therefore the Philippines became an American colony, or better yet, an unincorporated territory of the United States for at least two score years.
@letsgoeat3327
@letsgoeat3327 2 жыл бұрын
That is actually a falsehood. There are two fundamental problems with hat claim. Ola had already surrendered as part of General Belarmino's command in July 1901. His surrender is in the US War Department Records. He was listed as a Major. While he did return to the hills after his conflict with a local mayor who burned his house down, he was not a general. He claimed that he was promoted to General by Malvar. That was never substantiated by any appointment papers. In Malvar's reports on record on the state of his command (example Dec. 1901) of which the US War Department has files, Ola's name does not appear in all those under Malvar's command. Colonels and Generals make up that list. If Ola were really a general as he claimed, he would be on that list. If you want to check sources, here you go: books.google.com.ph/books?id=VDxMn9JOi-QC&dq=simeon+ola&pg=PA346&redir_esc=y#v=onepage&q=simeon%20ola&f=false books.google.com.ph/books?id=VDxMn9JOi-QC&q=malvar%27s+statement&pg=PA267&redir_esc=y#v=snippet&q=malvar's%20statement&f=false

Why the Americans were enraged and angry at Aguinaldo as the leader of the Filipino people... The Philippine Republican Armed Forces under the helm of President Emilio Aguinaldo inflicted more Americans soldiers killed (including Major General Lawton) tallied at about 5,000 deaths in the battle front during the Phil-Am War than the British forces meted out casualty at 4,435 deaths on the American side in the battle during American Revolution (1775-1783), according the official record published by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs. The Americans sent 1/3 of their military forces to the Philippines and spent 400 million USDollars to "pacify" the 40,000-strong Aguinaldo's Philippine army for a long period of 3 years at the cost of almost 5,000 US soldiers dead and about 10,000 wounded.

I like to believe that General Luna was containing the Americans in the regions of Manila and Rizal, at least until he was assassinated, the front collapsed and most of coastal Luzon started to fall. I noticed after he was assassinated the Philippines lost their offensive positions and started a guerilla war (Like Luna planned, to fight a war of attrition with the americans and make it as painful as possible for them but with more numbers). He may not be a genius like Bolivar or Napoleon, but I have mad respect for this guy for coming up with a strategy that would hurt the american army later down the line (I.e Vietnam)

@@wazaman336 The goal was never to win the war through direct conflict with the United States. Luna's goal was to delay the Americans as long as possible to allow foreign journalists into the country and spread the information on what the US was actually doing. If this followed through, the US would lose reputation and integrity and would receive pressures from almost all world powers at that time. This would result in the war having less and less support which is like what happened in the Vietnam war and would force the US to give up. Of course, this would also mean that this is an opportunity for other world powers(Britain, Belgium, The Dutch, Germany, France) to invade us.
