The Ideal MRF for the Philippines would be capable of STOL as the Philippines is an Archipelago. Small yet nimble fighters with STOL capabilities allows Rapid deployment in the shortest allowable time. Air assets such as Aerial Tankers and Airborne Early Warning Systems can wait as Ground based systems would be more useful as Modernization proceeds and Air bases are improved. Rotary wing Aircraft procurement does make sense given Local topography would mean only these types of Aircraft are capable to operate in the area.

My mom was one of the pioneering waves of the country's female airforce pilots and based on the information I've overheard, we have a good number of capable pilots but the problem is the internal corruption that leads to the terrible workplace (including having little funds for improvement) and barely good pay which leads these good pilots to leave and apply for commercial flying. 90% of my mom's male and female classmates in the forces are now airline pilots. Even my father's (also was an airforce pilot) classmates went to airline flying.

To raise the Philippine Air Force to international standards, military cooperation between the United States and its allies is essential. The reason Russia is struggling in the Ukraine war is because of the support of America's powerful intelligence and reconnaissance assets. During World War II, the Vietnam War, and the Gulf War, the aspect of war was focused on punching power with an emphasis on attack, but today's modern warfare has transformed into a network war rather than powerful punching power. The military, with powerful intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance capabilities, as well as all weapons assets connected to the battlefield network, has become the strongest military in the world. The Philippines is one of America's allies, but it is not treated as a tier 1 or 2 ally. The reason is that the United States and its allies have no choice but to be passive in supporting the Philippine fight against China. In particular, the key point is that there is no IFF-Mode 5, an identification device for enemies, among Philippine military assets. It is a symbol of the United States and its powerful allies. The incident in which the SU-35 was hit by an S-400 anti-aircraft missile during the recent Ukraine War was because the Russian system was very outdated. IFF-Mode 5 is not supported except by trusted US allies such as Japan, South Korea, and Australia. In the case of Taiwan, the F-35 is not important, but they requested IFF-Mode 5 support from the United States, but it was rejected. This is a technology that the United States is more sensitive to than the F-35 technology. This is because if it falls to China or Russia, it will have fatal consequences for Western weapons systems. The Philippines must give the United States full confidence to access these assets. The close relationship with China during the previous administration alienated the U.S. relationship. In order to receive active support from the U.S. in times of emergency, such reciprocal ties must exist.

@@armadox9773 To add, I believe that the combat power of Philippine individual soldiers is among the highest in the world. The combat skills acquired through actual combat against numerous rebels are surprisingly great. However, Philippine capabilities in a full-scale war situation are too weak. Although fighter jets and frigates are important, we need to urgently build networks such as Link-16 and C4I to utilize allied assets centered on the United States. Of course, these assets cost a lot of money. Although we cannot see the visible increase in combat power, it is a point of division into a military powerhouse and a weak army. If this mutual trust is based, the Philippines will be recognized as a strong ally of the United States. Japan jointly developed the SM-3 with the United States, and Australia also jointly developed the Royal Wingman with Boeing. Korea created the world's first ROK-US combined forces with American division troops. The commander is an American general, and the deputy commander is a Korean general. Against this background, the compatibility and trust of each other's weapons is essential. In order for the Philippines to develop to this level, it must be recognized as a partner with which information can be exchanged with the United States. Taiwan and Thailand are also allies that cooperate with the United States, but access to these classified assets is blocked. Taiwan is due to Chinese spy issues, and Thailand is due to its close relationship with China's economy and military power. It is time for the Philippines to make wise decisions.

Well, considering Philippines as a country consist of thousands of islands. They should primary invest on Amphibious military vehicles, not necessarily multi billion dollar warships like destroyers. But more like Frigates and any types of armored/combat boats so that they can easily respond to any external and internal threats. Ordering fighter jets to any allied nations could take several years to build - and the threat is rising specifically in the region . Hence acquiring armored amphibious boats could take less time cause there are plenty of units already built and decommissioned sitting in the dry docks of US bases, it can be refurbished but still feasibly effective enough to guard or protect your territory against the aggressors.

@yongohkim1315
@yongohkim1315 10 ай бұрын
This is very impossible. Manufacturing military equipment using licenses is difficult in many ways. In countries that do not have sufficient defense budget, direct introduction is much better. First of all, the Philippines has no basic industry. Without related industries, production cannot be achieved even with technology transfer. Additionally, the budget is insufficient to operate the production line. And the demand from the Philippine military is a very small market. Running an assembly line to produce just 12 fighter jets is a very serious financial expense. If only 13 units are produced and terminated, like Japan's AH-64D, the price of the helicopter will remain much higher than that of the F-22 fighter. Hiring engineers to maintain the production line is unsustainable. These are highly paid professionals. In order to maintain their skills and employment effects, orders must continue to come in to the production line to run an advanced company. There are many other problems, but this alone will help you understand why licensed production is impossible in the Philippines. Even assault rifles are imported directly from the United States due to low military demand, so expensive production lines like fighter jets are just a wishful thinking.

that's easier said than done. For it to be remotely possible, 2 sectors need to get boosted. 1st is the energy sector. We literally need more power. And to get that at a wide scale and with the best efficiency, we desperately need nuclear power. Fccckkk Cory, her yellow/pink gang & the likes who are sooo anti-nuclear. BNPP should have run under her time and not closed for whatever shhhttt reason she pulled out of her azzz and other nuclear powerplants should have popped up as well. It would be impossible for us to move forward if we still get shackled by the Liberal's outdated and constricting view about nuclear power. 2nd is the metallurgy sector. We need to reboot our metallurgy capabilities. There will be no proper manufacture if we don't have a proper sector that can provide the proper metals and other materials for the production of such an endeavor to happen. Again, it would be impossible as well if all we can do is just import metal pieces.

No concrete program for acquiring defensive assets on a large scale capable of repelling external aggression. They don't care about the citizen. The best solution to Philippines budget limitations is the transfer of modern military technologies and let the Filipinos built their own defense systems consequently it will generate jobs for many Filipinos and therefore it'll help the economy of the country. If Allies are really serious of helping the Philippines, the transfer of modern military technologies is the best aid they can give not money because money is main cause of corruption. 2nd hand military materiels may help a lot but nothing compared to the transfer of technology. For example, the Filipino aircraft engineers can outsource ideas from F16 and Jas Gripen and make their own MRFs according to the specifications and needs of the Philippine Air Force.

Should focus more on layered anti-air and anti-ship defense systems and logistics before any advanced multirole aircraft due to economic shortcomings. Long-range defense systems should be mobile but short range and mid-range defenses would need to be the most mobile of these defenses. These should range from surface-to-surface/ship missiles, to anti-ICBM missiles, both ship/boat-based and land based systems. The trick would be to incorporate these iron-dome-like systems to fast boats/corvettes. Next should be modernized artillery and APC’s from 155’s to HIMARS, and amphibious APC’s in conjunction with israeli light tanks. With the rough terrain that the Philippines have, JLTV’s and any locally produced humvee equivalent would prove vitally useful with land-based QRF’s and they can be transported via air with C-130’s and by sea with the vast amount of civilian and military ferries that the Philippines already have. After short and long range air and ship defenses have been established and solidified, the Philippines should invest in local factories for the munitions these assets would need, instead of relying solely on imports. At the very least, if they cant produce them completely, they could assemble them in-house, while providing jobs to the local populace. Thats thousands of jobs. Yes its not so simple, but that imho would be a good way to start being semi-independent in terms of establishing a military industry.

Sure, the budget is still obviously tight, but we literally wasted decades of progressive modernization. Our culture of being "conservative" ultimately costed us some valuable time. One of my main concern is that: are we're lagging way too much, that our efforts of modernizing maybe a little too late at this point? I just hope we still have time. Of course, no conflict would be obviously preferable and immaculate. P.S. The Philippines would get an already well developed,, capable, proven carrier-operable 4th gen fighter that can work in unison with US carrier groups, share in US logistics for fighter armaments, and Boeing gets it keep its F-18 production lines running past 2024, because without new customers Boeing would have to close its last F-18 production lines by the end of 2024.

Yeah Gripen is one of the options but though it is cheaper in upront cost but it would be more costly in maintaining said assets in the long run because these company producing such aircraft is very far from asia and they have no regional hubs that can do immediate maintenance. Gripen aircraft is not widely used around the the world especially there is no country in Asia that uses it. In terms of inoperability there is a need to reconfigure it to attune with the assets purchase from Albeit system of Israel and that of thr US. The best MRF options would still be the F-16 Viper, very costly though but in terms of msintenance and operational inoperability is more cheaper than other aircraft in the long run. Also in case of war, the Phillipens can have open access to its supplies including maintenance coming from Hawai, Australia, Japan and from their floating aircraft carrier loacated around the world.

severely outnumbered by your threat and the only logical solution is quality over quantity but your first priority is cutting cost...stupid. Amateurs talk about tactics professionals talk about logistics. The only logical answer is the F-16 lwith assistance from the USA. Gripes C is what the PAF is eyeing. it doesn't have the range and the munitions availability that the block 50 or 80 F-16 has. With US assistance is the only logical solution with assistance in logistics and training for the air crew and ground staff. No way Sweden can provide that. In a crisis, the USA can bump priority to provide F-16 from its extensive inventory and reserves.

@@bornonjuly7052Thailand used Gripen. Also, SAAB offers tech transfer, maintenance and training to PAF. Gripen is really the ideal jet for Philippines because they can be deployed in ad hoc shorter runways due to it being a STOL - it's air guerilla warfare. It will make Philly basically an unsinkable aircraft carrier and adversaries will have to play whack a mole figuring out where these hidden airbases can be.

It would be better if the AFP would shift their focus on developing homemade missile systems instead. That way we can stalemate China with fewer resources needed. No need for pilots to upskill, lesser demand for gas, and cheaper maintenance compared to a jet that needs a hangar and maintenance per flight. This is also the same tactic Russia uses. Focusing on perfecting their ballistic missile system. Cheap but devastating output.

Currently the Philippine Air Force is on its modernization campaign. However, if you're really smart about it, the current armed conflict the Philippines is actively a part of are against the rebels and terrorists. A lot of the fighting happens on the ground, and occasionally at sea. These rebel and terrorist groups don't have sophisticated fighter jets, which is why the current batch of new aircrafts are meant to be excellent at ground support operations. While yes, it's important to have these advanced air defense capabilities, with all the corruption and the significantly smaller budget they are given, the leadership has to be smart about the assets they are acquiring currently, and still have a long term plan for MRFs and air defense capabilities.
