The energy sector needs more help from the government and the people. The implementing rules need to be mellow down to allow ordinary people to get a hold of renewable energy that is abundant to them example in the coastal areas to use of hydro energy like waves, in the plains the use of solar energy, and the like. Given this type of support will allow people to invest in renewable energy that will help boost the economy and obtain its sustainability.

OK, but there's also the reality that many, maybe most, Filipinos do not have electricity or any kind of vehicle without any means to pay for such things. The Filipinos who have vehicles almost always have small motor bikes which use little gas. Compare that to Americans driving huge SUVs in cities to drive to the mall, go out to eat, or just drive around for fun. In America a single house will have lights on, even in an empty house, heat or AC running, using more electric than many entire villages in PH use. It doesn't surprise me PH is low in greenhouse gas output compared to many countries. This also points out why global warming will continue. Western people will make signs and march against global warming but in no way will ever cut back their contribution to generating the pollution. They just will not accept how severely they would have to cut back. Add to that some countries becoming more wealthy and quickly moving to a Western level if population. China for example 20-30 years ago the streets in cities were full of bikes and today are choked with cars all sitting in traffic jams, engines burning fuel. No way humans will give up any comfort.

Power generation in the Philippines is deregulated to the private sector. For as long as the permits remain numerous and complex, it will hinder the growth in power generation investments.
@dollarjilt1
@dollarjilt1 Жыл бұрын
Interesting, but the Philippines is NOT reducing its reliance on natural gas for its power sector. It has as many as 8 new liquefied natural gas (LNG) import terminals going up, mostly in Batangas province, some 100 miles from Manila. It also has a plethora of new and soon to be built gas-fired power plants, many owned by San Miguel’s power arm. Gas emits at least half of the CO2 as does coal when used for power generation, and these gas plants will be operational for decades. As such, it will prevent or at least hinder the Philippines' net zero carbon emissions by 2050 goal.

Transition to renewable energy is a must. We need to stop using fossil fuel. And focus on developing technology to harness the power of nature.
@uriahthehittite2309
@uriahthehittite2309 2 жыл бұрын
No one in this world will be able to not use fossil fuel permanently, and that is just a given unless by some chance a revolutionary tech is invented to replaced it. All the geothermal plants, solar and wind harness plants and what have you are initially run by "turbine engines" which burn energy to make it run to produce electricity from those sources. It becomes renewable to so speak because you don't need, hopefully, constant use of that fossil fuel to make them run because the energy output of electricity can be stored and reused. Unless, they can change basic design and principles of the combustion engine, then all you have are the pie-in- the sky green and leftists pushing for a fiction not based on facts because of their political narrative to control our way of life. Of course, if these anti-capitalist lefties will have their way we will go back to the stone age and the 15th century. That is how dangerous they are. Nuclear is better, but until they find a way to get rid of its toxic waste after use, then it will be fossil fuel. Reduction of its use is the better way to put it to renew the existing energy already produced.

@jakealexander6046 2 жыл бұрын
@@emconsolacion7950 yes the maintenance and transmission of wind power may be expensive compared to hydro but dams are more dangerous both with water quality (oxygen levels in water and can kill surrounding plant life), disruptions in water supply( fresh water will need to be maintained in the dam) and destruction of dams can cause massive floods. Plus, you’ll have to study where to place such dams and plan it properly. Our power grid needs more MW right now to take advantage of the growth of the Manufacturing sector and growing cities. We are toe to toe with Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia and Indonesia fighting over Foreign investments.

PH shouldn't rely too much on these Renewable energies. It is true that Renewables are clean sources of energy, but compare to the output being produced by coal, oil and nuclear, Renewables will be considered minimal. Look at what is happening to developed countries like US, Germany that is shutting down their coal and nuclear... they are having power crisis. In order to reach a country's maximum industrial potential which the PH aims, there should be a huge amount of power source available. PH is not much contributor to greenhouse/carbon emission unlike US, Germany and China.. its ok for those countries to switch to renewable because they are the main contributor plus they dont usually experience strong killer typhoons. Best solution for PH is to use nuclear power as main source since it is clean compare to coal... while building renewables and slowly decommissioning coal and oil as standby power sources.
