I think the reason he empathized with the horse so much was because it was probably tied down to a post, leaving it while it was whipped, it mightve resonated with Nietzsche how a creature, meant to be free and live, was tied down and beaten against its will, just as he was.

It’s incredible that the last sane act of Nietzsche was to comfort a creature which was being mistreated for reasons it did not understand or was out of its control, comfort which he himself did not receive in life. He probably saw himself in that horse. Most people would damn everything and fall into despair, not caring for a poor animal being tortured because they had their own problems to worry about. But not him. Even at the brink of collapse he thought of others. Truly a beautiful and kind hearted man.

admirable... but too idealist IMO. his ideals are great but there is nothing there to address the darker sides of human nature and our needs to feel like we belong. Embrace individualism? ok but what about having a community to belong to? live with passion? some peoples passion is to harm others for personal gain. trust your instincts? our human instincts can be completely wrong, and subject to bias and emotion. Create your own moral values? no objective moral standard for society, same problem as 'live with passion'

I hate how intellectuals are always treated so unempathetically and disrespectfully when they first come out with something new. And after several decades we start to realise what we did with a person who deserved so much better. Atleast now we realise their perspectives and study them with respect. Nietzsche was great. He went through so much but never became the darkness that surrounded him. That taught me immense courage and resilience. The video was great. Keep doing the good work:)
@deltawoke
@deltawoke Ай бұрын
Shopenhauer, whom Nietzsche admired, talked about this in his "Will and Representation": "if I had any desire to gain the approval of my contemporaries, I should have had to cross out twenty passages which, undoubtedly, from beginning to end contradict all their views and at once. But I would consider it a sin to sacrifice even one phrase for the sake of approval from people." He said that it is normal if contemporaries do not understand outstanding philosophers, and that is why philosophers should strive not for approval, but for truth. So it's not surprising that Schopenhauer's works began to be appreciated only at the end of his career, and Nietzsche's works only after his death.
@PriyankaSaha-kn4sv
@PriyankaSaha-kn4sv 28 күн бұрын
@deltawoke Ohh, it's nice to know about Shopenhauer and his work. I get why Nietzsche admired him so much. Well, it's true. Intellect would actually develop to its full potential when one doesn't care about if one's thoughts would be judged negatively or positively. Free and honest pursuit is the foundation of philosophical quest. But, it's really disheartening to see the intellectual minds suffer so much emotionally because of their commitment to truth. It is an immense personal sacrifice one can give for the sake of truth and true knowledge, standing against everyone, even against your own family and loved ones at times; because at the end of the day they are humans too, with emotions and need for societal connections and relations (as humans are inherently social beings, and lack of connection is a direct call for depression, which deteriorates their mental health and overall philosophical pursuit which was the primary reason they suffered all of this for) So, it's just makes me empathize with them. It was nice to read your addition to my comment, I got to know a new thing, and it refreshened my learnings from the video:)

A little known fact about Nietzsche is that he thought he had Polish ancestry and was proud of it. It doesn't appear to be true at all, but Nietzsche found Polish culture (the culture of Polish numerous nobility in particular) fascinating and appealing. It makes the fact that his legacy was misapprehended by the Nazies even more ironic and sad.

Because Nietzche suffered throughout his entire life. Losing his family at such an early age, moving away from his town, straying away from principles he and the society he'd been a part of had followed forever, contracting syphilis, losing his beloved job, being scolded for his believes, getting his heart broken by close-minded people who he had called friends... and yet he wasn't broken yet. He had fought valiantly against all that was terrible in his life. What broke him was violence against an innocent animal. Like Nietzche was a beautiful human being, no less.

"accepting" suffering is a better way of putting it. shit happens and things go wrong. getting angry at the universe or God for this suffering is like being angry at a wildfire for burning a forest down or the wind for creating a tornado. where this is existence there is pain, and its better to accept that to grow you must weather the storm of suffering and despair, rather than give in and sink into despondency. his biggest sin is assuming this can't happen with a religious mindset.

Thank you for making this. Ive been going through that feeling of being knocked down in a hole over and over again over the last few months. The way you presented Nietzsche's life and philosophy helped pull me from that place. Nietzsche can offen times be misunderstood and so can his ideas. The way you presented the 7 recommendations really struck me and I nearly cried. The ways in which I could relate to Nietzsche and the way you shared his story and ideas has left a last impact on me. 10:19 I would like to point out that the quote first appeared in his 1882 book "The gay science". This is important to note since he in Thus Spake Zarathustra introduced the Uber-mensch which is supposed to be a replacement for theological goals AFTER god is killed and something has to fill the void.

Quick clarification, Galileo wasn't thrown into prison for saying that the earth revolves around the sun. He was thrown into prison (Edit:He was placed on house arrest, not thrown into prison.) because at the time, he'd no evidence for his claims, and he also indirectly called the pope an idiot after he'd been a patron of his.

Yeah. Also, claiming the Bible explains the phenomenon is kinda heretical because you cannot simply claim the Bible is the explanation for Heliocentrism. That is simply saying you have the authority to tell what God said instead of the Church.

He inspired Greek philosophy, not abrahamic virtues, there is no proof nor evidence of likeness being a result of influence. If you took something like that off wiki you should delete. I'm a very religious person(muslim, not christian) but a lot of this video resonated with me. I was very lucky to have been raised by open-minded parents who believe in God, and yet taught me to see things for myself. To question things, to educate myself, and to come to my own conclusion. Blindly following anything doesn't do any good, because at the end of the day, the religion doesn't resonate with you and you're just doing what you were taught to do. Though it might sound contradictory, I believe that questiong faith and studying it can lead to stronger faith, at least that much is true for me.
